USA Mundane Forecast
for the four weeks beginning June 2, 2018
If you are unfamiliar with the methods and interpretations of Sidereal mundane astrology, see my free book Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link to the current edition can always be found near the top of the Publications sub-forum.) For standard interpretations, see Chapter 8 of the new 15th Edition.
LONG-TERM (Solar Ingress) PATTERNS
The 12 months beginning January 15, 2018 are unstable, revolutionary, revising, remapping, anti-establishment, and often anti-government. Washington's Capsolar has Pluto square Ascendant (0°08') and Uranus on Westpoint (0°42'). A spirit of revolution assaults current systems, tearing at iconic structures. Victory in the 2018 elections will tend to fall to whomever can present himself or herself as the greater rebel.
PLUTO signals high-impact events that sever connections. Mainstream and counter-establishment sensibilities confront each other. Events are fiercely political, such as leader crises, financial crises, and severing historic relations. Natural disasters include hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods. URANUS signals explosions (literal or metaphorical); sudden rupture, shock, surprise, and overflowing normal boundaries and limitations. Expect disclosures and revelations, surprise attacks, changes in leadership, protests, revolts, and their suppression.
Changes in foreign relations are a certainty with a foreground SUN-VENUS-URANUS. Venus-Uranus also signals shifting social values, including increased liberty in Venus matters. What would 2018's version of legalizing same-sex marriage be? "Culture wars" kick up more intensely for the midterm elections. The voice of rebellion is concentrated on those in the highest office.
For the whole world, MOON CONJOINS MERCURY and SATURN. While Moon-Jupiter aspects in recent Capsolars brought economic recovery, expect the opposite from Moon-Saturn. Recession is not unthinkable. Capsolars had close Moon-Saturn aspects in 1819, 1837, and 2008, which should concern students of American money crises. Its record for violent inhumanity is heart-stopping. Climate destabilization will escalate faster in 2018 than in previous years, with tragic, life-smashing consequences.
With Mercury + Saturn, expect restrictions, delays, failures, and calamity in transportation and communication. Communication fails for technical reasons and because people stop listening to each other. Data integrity is increasingly doubted: Cybersecurity is a greater priority than cyber-expansion. Commerce is interrupted: More newspapers go out of business and more small businesses close their doors. Information flow is interrupted and rationed. Moon-Mercury keeps our attention on the media which, itself, is much of the story. Moon-Saturn signals hardship, narrowing, sacrifice, loss, and sadness, with little cause for celebration. Bereavement for widely beloved figures, deprivation and disappointment, destructive assaults by people and nature, and other forms of hardship focus primarily on alienation and divisiveness. It will be a good year for undertakers.
With Saturn in Sagittarius, internationalism, immigration, aviation, elitism, hierarchical economic separation, and missiles take up much of our headline space for 2018.
Finally, Washington has a Mars-Jupiter PVP conjunction. Resources are squandered, stretched past capacity. Religious evangelism and other belief-driven enthusiasm and aggression accelerate. Bigots have louder voices. In nature, as in human affairs, expect stormy weather.
The Arisolar (April 14) is dormant for Washington, DC, but adds (until mid-July) a further edge of violence and hardship: Arisolar Moon squares Saturn (2°24' in eclipto) and Mars (a blisteringly tight 0°09' in mundo).
MEDIUM-TERM PATTERNS (The Bridge)
Progressed Capsolar Sun moves within 1° of conjunct Venus June 12. Even though (at time of this writing) the June 12 Trump-Kim summit has been cancelled, we now enter the portion of this year when peace will be a stronger force in the world.
June 2-12 is a JUPITER-PLUTO zone. Negatively, this combination is known for outlandish, freaky weather events, and we're now officially in the hurricane season. More likely, Jupiter's opposition to CanQ Moon will draw out positive events with a focus on economic and diplomatic wins. Major events that are not purely political will center on religion and other passionate belief systems, celebrities and aristocrats, and entertainment.
June 13-15 adds Uranus to Cansolar Moon, forming a JUPITER-URANUS-PLUTO zone. Primarily we expect positive breakthroughs, tech revelations, and ideological revolution, especially the kind that remaps the larger social contract and expands opportunities and liberties. Among natural phenomena, these aspects are common for flood.
As Jupiter moves on, June 16-29 remains a URANUS-PLUTO zone. These pockets of the year stir things up: They are unstable, revising, remapping, anti-establishment, often anti-government, and embody a spirit of revolution aimed at dismantling existing systems and structures.
SHORT-TERM (Lunar Ingress) PATTERNS
Caplunar (Jun 2)
The Caplunar covers June 2-29, and especially the first week, June 2-9. Expect a difficult month in most ways. Saturn conjoins Descendant (2°51'). Venus is 3°25' below Ascendant. Their midpoint is 0°17' from horizon. Neptune and Pluto are widely angular.
Saturn stands out for all categories of events with significant loss of human life and costly property damage. Specific areas include losses in general (whether of life, loot, or an athletic competition); economic crises (both financial crises and periods of scarcity, loss, economic narrowing, and deprivation), earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, fires, floods, explosions, tornadoes, coalmine disasters, bridge collapses, severe cold, and all other “act of God” natural disasters characterized by hardship, tragedy, and death.
Additionally, Saturn is common for collisions and other explosions, mass murders, massacres, war and other warlike assaults, populist uprisings and their suppressions, and sorrowful events involving of heads of state and other prominent leaders and cultural heroes.
Venus/Saturn combinations show powerful love coexisting with severe loss, as in grief for the loss of loved ones; spoiled fun (a sense that “the party is over”); possible hate, remorse, and loss of allies. Fires, explosions, wars, and mining disasters are among the events that this pair shares with the angular Saturn.
See the Other Locations maps below for the exact path where Saturn is setting. It passes across Michigan (exactly through Detroit) through North Carolina. Eastern Ohio has an exact Saturn-Neptune intersection.
CapQ angles touch one or another Neptune June 2-3 (squared by Sun), 6/5, and 6/7 (square Sun). Expect mass-insanity at a heightened level, probably turbulent and (given the Saturn-themed Caplunar) frightened. This adds a broad umbrella of confusion, uncertainty, disorientation, and perhaps panic. Watch out for deception and misdirection!
Transiting Jupiter opposite CanQ Moon is angular 6/3 and 6/7-8. Might this gives some reprieve or advantage in an otherwise difficult, narrowing week? (I am more inclined to trust the Caplunar and CapQ, but cannot entirely ignore these crossings.)
Arilunar (Jun 9)
The Arilunar covers June 9-22. Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un were supposed to meet in Singapore June 12, which is cancelled as I write this. Nonetheless, the Arilunar has a 0°02' Moon-Venus square worldwide (and foreground in both Washington and Singapore; Pyongyang has more controversy, with Mars on Midheaven despite Jupiter on Westpoint). Pluto is closest to an angle, so something epochal is not out of the question. In Washington, Moon makes PVP squares with Jupiter and Uranus.
Overall, we expect a positive week, though with extreme and startling things. With strong Moon-Venus aspects, strong Venus themes predominate, especially peace, public happiness, and celebration. We anticipate alliances rather than antipathies. Stories of love hold the public’s attention more than usual. As always with Moon-Venus and Moon-Jupiter, there is a chance for precipitation extremes; with Moon-Uranus, this stretches to flood. Overall, though, this should be a week with something to celebrate.
CapQ angles bring more Neptune 6/9, 6/11, and 6/13. With 2° orbs, this covers the whole week, with a similar import to last week except that (given the positive tone of the Arilunar) we do not expect dread. The persistent question arising out of the confusion is likely a different variation of, "So, what happens now?"
6/13-14 CanQ angles reinforce this, touching the Cansolar Venus-Neptune square and ingress Mercury. I specifically anticipate sleight-of-hand or deception in diplomacy. More broadly, Venus-Neptune is common for events of intense devotion, passionate belief, compelling fantasy or role-playing, performance art, disillusionment, betrayed alliances, perceived offenses, or diplomatic embarrassment.
Canlunar (Jun 15)
The Canlunar, which nominally covers June 15-22, is dormant. Primarily, the Arilunar flows through.
CanQ Ascendant squares transiting Neptune 6/16.
Liblunar (Jun 22)
The Liblunar covers June 22-29. Sun rises (0°36'), marking the main themes of the chart. Saturn is next most angular (almost 5°), then Neptune quite widely.
A solar focus with Saturn and Neptune - and a partile Moon-Uranus opposition in mundo - is a shake-up week for the president. Heads of state suffer under this kind of chart, their popularity takes a downward dive, and even their positions can seem threatened.
Whatever hits us will surprise us like a bomb-burst. A further commonality of Sun, Saturn, and Neptune on angles together is financial downturn, though with Saturn and Neptune less angular, any market dive will pass. If not entirely focused on the president, events will make unusually obvious just how strong a presence the U.S. government has in people's day-to-day lives.
June 24-25 CapQ MC conjoins ingress Saturn, exactly opposite transiting Sun. This day will mark an acute crisis (at least hardship, possibly a significant fall or failure) in the presidency. CapQ MC and transiting Sun touch Capsolar Moon the next day, continuing the effect and shining a spotlight even more brightly. On 6/28, CapQ MC conjoins transiting Saturn's conjunction with ingress Mercury (all opposed by transiting Sun) emphasizing all Mercury-Saturn (and generally adverse Mercury) themes, such as transportation tragedies, communication failures, restrictions, delays, technology intrusions and more. This week's Q crossings are really big deals!
Setting this up, CanQ Ascendant opposes Saturn June 22.
