7.2 quake, struck Greece's southern islands. In the general mid-August time, the region had 113 earthquakes, though this was the most destructive. The island of Kefalonia was lifted 24 inches out of the ocean, and widespread damage struck the region.
Casualties are variously given as 450-800. Zakynthos (aka Zante; capital of the island of the same name) was so damaged that only two buildings survived; everything else had to be rebuilt from scratch. Therefore, I am using this as the center of study rather than the nearby epicenter, 38.2°N, 20.6°E. Saturn-Neptune rose and Mercury culminated as the quake struck.
I don't have actual figures of the damages, but they were substantial. The vague statement given is "billions of Drachmas," and if the conversion rate between Drachmas and US dollars is the same now as then (unlikely; but perhaps close), then a billion drachmas is US$3.4 or (adjusted for inflation to 2018) US$31.9 million. We can thus estimate "dozens of millions of dollars."
The astrological setup is quite good, then suddenly collapses at the daily level.
