Firebrace & Gleadow

Post by Jim Eshelman »

I'd completely forgotten that Roy Firebrace and Rupert Gleadow (who knew each other for decades and worked closely together) died less than two weeks from each other. Both were reported in the March, 1975 issue of American Astrology. Here is the shared obit:
With sadness we announce the departure of two great astrological pioneers - master astrologers and uncompromising researchers both. Brigadier R.C. Firebrace, C.B.E., born August 16, 1889, 44N38, 63W35, 4:47:10 LMT, left us November 10, 1974, 10:30 AM GMT. Rupert Gleadow, born January 22, 1909, 12:00 PM GMT, 53N39, 1W03, departed October 30, 1974.

The Brigadier was a master of many professions - having followed military and diplomatic careers before he came to astrology. He was an early advocate of the Sidereal zodiac and coauthored The Primer of Sidereal Astrology with the late Cyril Fagan, as well as editing the astrological journal SPICA for many years.

Mr. Gleadow had impeccable academic credentials - including a double first degree in Classics and Egyptology from Oxford. His knowledge and scholarly ability were used to explain both the history and the use of the zodiac to the scholar and the general reader alike. His works include The Origin of the Zodiac and Your Character in the Zodiac.
