Kim Jong Un

Bob Woodward recently wrote, regarding James Clapper's position on the U.S. addressing of the North Korea problem in late 2016,
The overriding fact... was that no one really understand what drove Kim Jong Un. "No one knows his ignition point," he said. That was the assessment they needed and didn't have. Instead the analysis debated whether Kim Jong Un was a brilliant, strategic genius manipulating other countries, including the U.S., or an inexperienced, impulsive fool.
Well, gosh, what's astrology good for if not making blind assessments of people's most driving motivations, yes? Shall we take a look and find whether we can help out the NSA?

Two problems confront us. The lesser of these is that we have no birth time for Kim. We might be able to deal with that. The greater, though, is that there is an issue of the year of his birth. I'm pretty sure which way this one resolves, but we need evidence, not guessing.

Kim was born January 8, either in 1983 (as South Korean sources say) or 1984 (as U.S. sources say). I think it was 1983. I can easily see his exact Venus-Saturn square (and very close square of Mercury-Venus to Saturn-Pluto) for the man who has his close uncle murdered, among other acts. The 1983 Libra Moon (plus the Mercury-Venus conjunction) also fits his greater willingness to be diplomatic when it is his best move. The January 8, 1984 chart (just a few days before our own James Condor) has a triple Mercury-Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Sagittarius (along with a Sag Sun and Aquarius Moon) and one thing Kim does not seem to be foremost is an ideologue. He's more practical than his father. I don't mind the Mars-Pluto conjunction but I do mind the Mercury-Jupiter-Neptune triple conjunction in Sag. (The Mercury-Venus to Saturn-Pluto is also consistent with someone with the skill and obsessiveness to spend hours and days drawing highly detailed sketches of an American basketball hero.)

For either year, his Sun closely squares Trump's Jupiter, which seems descriptive of the mixture of liking each other and using each other. But that's about all that either chart comparison gets us.

He assumed office as Supreme Leader of North Korea December 12, 2011. Looking at the 1983 birth, we see transiting Jupiter opposite his Pluto and Mars semi-square his Pluto. Looking at the 1984 birth, we see Uranus square natal Neptune and octile his Saturn and Saturn octile his Uranus. Of the two, the former is the more persuasive.

At the time he first shook hands with Donald Trump (June 12, 2018, 9"04 AM, Singapore), for the 1983 birth transiting Neptune was octile his Pluto and Mercury exactly opposed his Neptune. Jupiter did nothing to him unless his Moon is at 19 1/2° Libra (or an angle is there). For the 1984 chart, Jupiter conjoined his Saturn (octile his Neptune), and Venus octiled his Uranus, which isn't bad!(For either birth year, his Sun was on Descendant when this happened.)

He became Supreme Leader of North Korea December 12, 2011. For a noon birth, progressed Moon was 1°38' short of conjunct natal Jupiter for the 1983 birth. For the 1984 birth there is no similar progression, though progressed Sun squared natal and progressed Saturn. (His father died a few days later, on December 17.)

OK, I'm seeing some discrepancies on the dates. One source says 12/12, but his father died 12/17 and most sources are clear that he didn't assume power before his father's death. He was declared Supreme Commander of the Korean army 12/24 and formally installed 12/30. Other titles came with time.

So, backtracking: For the 1983 birth, 12/17 has similar transits to those reported previously. 12/24 is just after a new SLR, which should be checked, plus Venus to his Mercury-Venus for public pronouncement. The progressed Moon to natal Jupiter is 1°02' shy on 12/30.

For the 1984 birth, transits 12/17 are essentially as listed before. On 12/24 there weren't any. For 12/30, Saturn conjoined his Mars (which seems strange for being installed as Supreme Commander of the army), and it was the day of a lunar return. I still think it's 1983.
