Textbook SSR Teachings: Part 1

Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger announced their separation on May 11 2011, after 25 years of marriage. AA rated birth time for Maria- Nov. 6th 1955, 5:12 PM, Chicago, ILL.

Maria’s 2011 SSR is a striking SSR and exemplifies Jim’s Solar Return teachings from his book, ‘Interpreting Solar Returns’ (ISR).

Jim’s book teaches us to read the Solar Return twice, once as a stand alone chart and then twice with the Natal Chart using a bi-wheel format. I will demonstrate Jim’s method—it is most revealing with acute planetary symbolism that perfectly demonstrates some OF Jim's key teachings from ISR.

ISR tells us to look for angular planets with Return Charts. These angular planets with their aspects will offer us the main planetary ‘themes’ for the Solar year. With Maria’s 2001 SSR, we immediately see Solar Moon-Mercury partile (one degree orb or less) conjunct Maria’s Descendant (7th House Cusp). Maria’s Solar Moon is partile 90 her Solar Neptune with her Solar Mercury tightly 90 her Solar Neptune. Solar Neptune is partile conjunct the Zenith, an important Auxiliary angle with Jim’s teachings from ISR. The Zenith squares the Ascendant above the horizon. So, we have one powerful angular planetary configuration involving Maria’s angular Solar Moon-Mercury 90 her auxiliary angular Neptune. Many of Reinhold Ebertin’s interpretive planetary combination from his book ‘The Combination of Stellar Influences (COSI) offer excellent planetary delineations. On page 94 & 95 of COSI, Ebertin states with Moon-Mercury-Neptune combination:

“A deceived girl, exposure to lies and calumnies fabricated by others.”


Obviously, this "others" in Ebertin's above quote is her husband Arnold!

Jim’s book ISR emphasizes-- when we see partile angular aspects in a SSR expect ‘outstanding incidents’ according to the planetary symbolism to occur at some point during the SSR. Jim teaches us partile aspects ‘reign supreme.’ Jim stresses the importance of the dynamic aspect, those aspects based on ‘halving of the opposition to produce the series 180, 90, 45, and all their multiples,’ including the conjunction, which are sometimes labeled the hard aspects. Also the so called soft aspects (partile/tight) ‘by halving the trine’ to produce the 120, 60, 30 and ‘multiples of each.

As we can clearly see with Jim’s teachings, after this ‘outstanding incident’ in Maria’s life, the main ‘theme’ of this SSR reads out to have something to do with deception—‘A deceived girl.’ But not all Moon-Mercury-Neptune symbolism would have to mean deception in a malefic manner. We must try to determine with our first read if the SSR is malefic, benefic, or neutral. Usually there are other textbooks clues with an ‘outstanding incident’ SSR, which speak loudly with Jim’s textbook teachings from ISR taken as a whole reading of the SSR. Maria’s SSR is packed full of other planetary clues that speak loudly this SSR is a definite malefic SSR. Some potent notables: Note angular Mercury is partile 45 Saturn. Saturn is partile 135 Maria’s Solar Ascendant. Maria’s Solar Saturn is partile 150 another of Jim’s Auxiliary the East Point (Eq). And Saturn is 15 minutes from a partile aspect to the most elevated Solar planet—Solar Neptune on Jim’s Auxiliary angle teachings the Zenith. We see here that Maria’s Solar Saturn is involved in four various partile angular contacts (4 Saturian angular ‘themes’). Maria’s 2011 SSR is clearly malefic telling us the main Moon-Mercury-Neptune ‘theme’ will manifest itself in a malefic manner. Maria’s Solar Mars is angular (7th House) and in the foreground of her 2011 SSR. Her Solar Mars will receive an approaching partile hit (conjunction) of her Secondary Progressed (SP) Solar Moon with SP Solar Mars in the 7th House—so expect increased further warring to be occurring before her current SSR releases her in this Solar year. Also note Maria’s Vertex (Vx) is widely conjunct her Solar Venus by 3.5 degrees. Jim allows a 2-3 degree orb with Vertex sponsored symbolism—so we see here a Venus ‘theme’ with this Auxiliary angle with Jim’s teachings. We also see a partile Pluto conjunct Caput (Dragon’s Head/ North Node). I don’t believe the early siderealist included Caput with their delineations but I have think Caput sponsored symbolism is important to note. Ebertin says about Pluto/Dragon’s Head in a malefic fashion:

“A common and tragic destiny shared with other persons.”


Maybe not tragic in a literal death situation, but obviously Maria is psychologically feeling/experiencing a tragic time in her life after 25 years of marriage. A death of her long marriage.r 25 years of marriage. A death of her long marriage.

Textbook SSR Teachings Part 11:

*Note: Maria’s 2011 SSR posted in Part 1 is relocated to her Los Angeles, California, Brentwood Manson Residence (Computing for Los Angeles, CA.) is close enough. There is a town in CA. named Brentwood with different coordinates than L.A. Current Solar Returns should be relocated to one’s main living residence—not the birthplace location, unless still living in birthplace location.

Note also Maria’s Solar Neptune is Stationary on the Auxiliary Angle of the Zenith, not that we need anymore potency to our first reading; but outer Planet Stations on the Angles of a Chart indicate very potent strength. Maria is discovery a-lot of potent Neptunian deception about Arnold fathering a child, maybe more than one child, outside and during her 25 years of marriage. I have analyzed hundreds of Solar Returns and I will confidently state when you find a partile conjunction of a planet on your Solar Return, you have isolated major manifesting planetary symbolism.

Also, the Vertex (Vx) is not actually an Auxiliary angle but an accentuated sensitive point. It acts like an angle pertaining to planetary strength.

Now we are ready for Part 11, reading Maria’s 2011 Solar Return for a second reading with a bi-wheel, including her Natal Chart, per Jim’s teaching guidelines from ISR. Jim uses a bi-wheel with the Natal Chart on the inside of the bi-wheel and Solar Return (transits) on the outside—I think. For this demonstration I will reverse the bi-wheel with the Solar Return on the inside and Natal Chart on the outside of the bi-wheel. This will not affect Jim’s main teaching points with Solar Return analysis. Jim teaches that Natal Planets when found on the Solar Return angles indicate how the native will react to the actual planetary influence of the Solar Return itself. I call this the ‘collusion effect’ (learned from Jim) where, at times, the Solar Return angles will collude with important planetary Natal Signatures (aspect configurations). Sometimes a set of Solar Return angles will match the Natal Angles. When this happens and there are major Natal planetary configurations on the Natal angles you have isolated a major ‘collusion effect,’ with the SR and the Natal. I always read this ‘collusion effect’ as telling me WHEN a major natal configuration or the symbolism of a natal planet will manifest in the natives life. The Natal tells us WHAT and in some cases the SSR will tells us WHEN these configurations will manifest. By today’s standards in the USA, marriages, I think, are only a 32% chance of lasting 25 years. Major ‘collusion effects,’ like Maria’s 2011 SSR, don’t occur very often. Jim goes into more in-depth details in his book, ISR pertaining to Natal Configurations or Natal Planets on Solar Return angles.

Allow your eyes to look at the bi-wheel below. Note Maria’s Solar Return ASC-DES axis is virtually the same as Maria’s Natal ASC-DES axis. This does not happen very often. Now note Maria’s Natal Venus/Saturn Midpoint partile conjuncts her Natal Descendant. Maria’s Natal Venus/Saturn Midpoint also partiles conjuncts her Solar Return Descendant, since both of these axis are virtually the same. Maria’s 2011 SSR ‘colludes’ BIG TIME when her Natal Venus/Saturn Midpoint. We already know we are looking at a malefic SSR with Maria’s current SSR, with our first reading per Jim’s teachings. With the first reading of Maria’s 2011 SSR, we know there is a MAJOR planetary ‘theme’ pertaining to a deceived woman per Ebertin’s delineation. Now when we do Jim’s second reading combining the Natal with Maria’s 2011 SSR, we see this Natal Venus/Saturn Midpoint partile conjunct her 2011 SSR Descendant. Angular Venus-Saturn symbolism is par-excellent planetary symbolism for a separation or divorce. Jim’s teaching’s offers precise teachings that Maria will REACT to her 2011 SSR with a separation and/or divorce. Maria has already separated herself from Arnold and the Brentwood L.A. Residence. There is another interesting side note with this analysis, when we relocate Maria’s birthchart from Chicago to L.A. her Natal Saturn sets with a sidereal time of 20:36:37 and her SSR Descendant sets with a sidereal time of 20:42:11. This means that her Natal Saturn, relocated to L.A. is 1.5 degrees off her SSR Descendant, even though when we view the bi-wheel our eyes see Saturn ecliptically further away from the descendant. From an actual astronomical calculation, Saturn is closer to the descendant than appears with our conventional charts. This is a classic & remarkable SSR example demonstrating many of Jim’s finest teachings from ‘Interpreting Solar Returns.’ Jim’s Solar Return analysis never ceases to amaze me with their innate intrinsic planetary symbolism. We don’t need to do any sign interpretation, house interpretation, rulership interpretation, etc. to fully understand the planetary symbolism. This planetary symbolism slaps us in the face and screams—SEE how simple it is to use the pure intrinsic planetary symbolism with Jim’s teaching. This is pure Sidereal Astrology teaching at its best; and, even allows the tropical astrologer to use the tropical zodiac if they choose to do so with ‘precession corrected’ Return charts. Not all Solar Returns portend ‘outstanding events’ but will still allow the astrologer to offer very meaningful delineations for whoever.

Maria's Moon was on the DSC.
I going off what Cyril Fagan says book Solunars said, the moon on an angle always predicts change, a lot of the time domestic kids of changes.......
I remember when my grandmother died my mother's SSR featured Natal Sun being over-run by Neptune(on the Zenith), and Moon Cnj the MC
The Moon was also exactly on the IC for my SSR when my relationship ended with my fiance..and progressed just a few minutes of an arc to an oppostion of my natal moon when we last spoke.

I would agree with Fagan on this, but looking at Maria’s 2011 SSR, by itself, does not tell me what kind of "domestic" changes her angular partile aspected SSR Moon will produce. It’s her Natal Signature of the Venus/Saturn =SSR DSC that is the telling aspect that tells the astrologer there is high probability of a love separation ('change'). Jim teaches us when Natal planets/configurations appear on the angles of the SSR, the astrologer is then clued in on how the Native will react to the symbolism in the SSR. The only book that I know that teaches this Natal reaction principle with the SSR is Jim’s book ‘Interpreting Solar Returns.’ In my work, I have found this Natal reaction principle, when present, to be very accurate acording to the intrinsic planetary symbolism. Maria's intrinsic Natal Venus/Saturn=Natal DSC foretells to the astrologer-- at some point in Maria's life she will experience a Saturian seperation pertaining to love (Venus symbolism). It was her 2011 SSR that tells the astrologer WHEN (the solar year) this "domestic" seperation will occur. This is a seperation of a 25 year marriage--I think this is Maria's first life seperation pertaining to love and her 2011 SSR nailed the TIMING for this love seperation with clear teachings from Jim's book.
