Gable House / Torrance, CA shooting

January 4, 2019, about 11:55 PM, Torrance, CA

Late Friday night, a shooter killed three people and injured four others at the Gable House bowling alley in Torrance, CA. (Shooting was first reported at 11:55 PM.)

The shooting occurred with Sun and Saturn conjoined, straddling IC, and Moon closing in on Saturn. Altogether, five planets were in Sagittarius. - The charts are overall stunning, with Neptune exactly angular (with various other planets) in the Capsolar, Libsolar, and Caplunar (Year, Quarter, and Month) - and, for that matter, in the CapQ, though its combination with Jupiter in the CapQ is the worst chart in the set. This time, the CanQ gives the unmistakable markers of the event.

LA Teachers Strike

by Jim Eshelman
32,000 LA teachers and staff go out on strike this morning (in rainy weather BTW). What makes this significant is that it's the first teachers strike here in 30 years (and this is the largest school district in the nation).

The mundane charts have some interesting twists. For example, today is the last day of the 2018 Capsolar and the worldwide Moon-Mercury-Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius is still blazing along with keywords from "no deal" and "communication breakdown" to the most obvious, "blocked education." The Libsolar (again, universally) has other major afflicted Mercury symbolism with Moon half a degree from conjunct Mars and both of them square Mercury.

The Caplunar from January 6 has Moon at MC square Uranus - both a primary aspect for rebellion, uprising, strikes, etc., and also placing Moon (events centered on children) as the centerpiece. (Tis morning's Arilunar is dormant.)

And, of course, LA (and most of California) has had Neptune setting in the Capsolar all year. As CapQ angles close the loop of a complete wrap-around, today's CapQ has Neptune on Dsc exactly square Jupiter on IC - yes, this (and perhaps the weather) is an expression of the Jupiter-Neptune square Ive been trying to figure out. (Jupiter and Neptune also transit Capsolar angles.)

January 21, 2019, 10:40 am EST, someplace in Noble County, Ohio UPDATE: just outside Summerfield, OH

And here is ANOTHER gas pipeline explosion. A natural gas pipeline run by Enbridge Texas Eastern has an explosion that created a fireball and destroyed two houses. Flames were shooting 80-200 feet up into the air, visible from 10-15 miles away.

I can't find a location more exact than "Noble County, Ohio." The county seat is Caldwell, which is probably close enough for all but fine work. At the time of the explosion, Mars (0°05' from square Saturn) was about 3° below Asc.

press release sent from Enbridge Pipeline Monday night:
At 10:40 a.m. this morning, a gas line ruptured and sent flames into the air on Smithberger Road outside of Summerfield, Ohio. The Noble County Sheriff’s Office responded to several reports trying to narrow down the exact location as fire departments responded to the area. Caldwell VFD, Summerfield VFD, and Lewisville VFD worked with companies in the area to identify the impacted line. It was a 30” natural gas line that had been in that location for several years currently owned by Enbridge. They spent several hours fighting secondary fires including three homes and were able to clear the scene by approximately 5:00 pm. United Ambulance treated and transported one (1) injured resident from the scene to a local hospital where that resident received treatment for minor burns. Currently, Smithberger Road is closed due to road damage and the need to secure the area for safety and continued assessment in the daylight tomorrow. Please avoid that area as you will not be admitted onto Smithberger Road.

State of the Union

The President was invited to address a joint session of the 116th US Congress with the theme "The State of the Union" by letter from Speaker Pelosi on January 3rd, 2019. The President mentioned he would be making the speech on January 6, but apparently never actually accepted the invitation, and never RSVPed.

On January 16th, Speaker Pelosi rescinded the invitation to address a joint session (which is held in the House Chambers, the Senate chambers not having enough chairs) and suggested if the President wanted to give his speech anyway, he should find another venue or should issue a written speech. The reason given was security would not be sufficient because of the government shutdown.
Later the same day, Kirstjen Nielsen, Secretary of Homeland Security, said DHS is "fully prepared" for the Address. Trump has since said he's giving the speech, apparently unaware he needs Speaker Pelosi's permission to set foot in the House Chambers, and he can't ignore her rescinding the invitation.

Today, Jan 23, Trump is insisting security is not a problem and he will be giving the speech on the House floor. Reporters are all saying oh, Mrs. Pelosi has to DO something, SAY something, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't.

The State of the Union is usually given at or about 9 PM on the designated date, in this case January 29, 2019.

Dem leadership (Hoyer) is now saying she didn't really disinvite him, just warned him of her concerns. Of course, he cansbow up anyway, ut she has the power to turb off CSPAN so that nothing is broadcast.

Reread the original text, and Hoyer's right, she didn't actually rescind the invitation. That was just what Trump's staff said.
I think this is evidence of the Jupiter Neptune square in the Caplunar, with the Mercury Mars square building in.

Need more popcorn.

Mrs. Pelosi sent a letter about 2:30 PM ET saying the House would not consider a resolution authorizing the State of the Union address from the floor of the House as long as the shutdown continues.
Trump has answered three times in an hour. The last one accusing her of "canceling" the Address because "she's afraid of the truth." He didn't specify what truth that might be.
Getting weird.

Does anyone have the time Trump signed the "opening (aka funding) the government" bill? It looks like it was around 9 PM EST. (NY Times sent a breaking news notice at 9:27.) This might just be a formality, though one might like to have it as a curio - the real action was through the day yesterday. - For now, I'll use January 25, 9 PM as a working time of when it all resolved, but... anybody got better?

The chart for Trump announcing the deal at 2:16 PM has Venus and Jupiter recently set, yet, amidst it all, a mundane Moon-Mercury-Mars T-square. A chart for 9 PM has Venus and Jupiter straddling IC, Jupiter square a recently-set Neptune, and an ecliptical Moon-Mars-Saturn T-square.

Transits to the U.S. natal chart are striking for the announcement, showing equally the breakthrough, the conflict, and the happy news:

21°31' Gem - r Sun
21°42' Pis - t Mars [Note t Mars trine t Jupiter 0°02']
21°55' Vir - r Asc

14°05' Vir - t Moon
14°16' Gem - r Jupiter

What will happen in three weeks? One doesn't need astrology to be pessimistic of this but for the last hour of February 15 transiting Saturn takes the place Mars held yesterday.

21°31' Gem - r Sun
21°33' Sag - t Saturn
21°55' Vir - r Asc

Also:
2°11' Aqu - t Sun
2°35' Aqu - r Moon

5°56' Cap - r Pluto
6°09' Ari - t Mars

The signing into law of the bill that refunded the shutdown parts of the U.S. government occurred January 25, 2019, approximately 9 PM, at the White House.

Year: Capsolar
(This shows the various conditions from which I forecast something like a govt. shutdown, but also the weakening of the president)
Uranus on IC 2°36'
Sun on EP 1°53'
Mercury, Saturn, Pluto more widely angular
-- Sun-Uranus sq. 0°09' in RA
-- Su/Pl on EP 0°09' in RA
-- Sun-Pluto conj. 2°30' in mundo
-- Mercury-Pluto conj. 2°34' …
-- Mercury-Saturn conj. 2°46'

Bridge

Year: Caplunar
Mercury on Dsc 1°53'
-- Mercury sq. non-foreground Mars 1°19'
Jupiter & Neptune more widely angular
-- Neptune sq. non-foreground Saturn 2°33' in mundo
-- Jupiter-Neptune sq. 1°13'

There are things to learn from this. In hindsight, the centerpiece is Mercury, the message - the deal, the bill, etc. - amidst the Jupiter-Neptune "gaming, dealing" gongs on. I would have been inclined to be more negative, though, since Mercury and Neptune both have afflictions. -- On reviewing my forecast for this Caplunar, I did get all the right themes but not necessarily the right balance of them. Also, the negative, threatening tone (which was indeed saber rattling and conflicting discourse for weeks) waited for the very positive Week chart, the Canlunar, to tip it positive.

Week: Canlunar
Venus on WP 0°38'
Jupiter on WP 1°59'
Neptune more widely foreground
-- Venus-Neptune sq. 0°22'
-- Venus-Jupiter conj. 0°49' in mundo
-- Jupiter-Neptune sq. 1°10'
Moon-Mercury op. 0°35'
Moon-Pluto op. 3°44 op.

An extraordinarily positive chart, and my monthly forecast painted it as such. (I didn't get the right event, primarily because I thought it would occur the week before - primarily because I had no expectation it would become "a real thing" and last long. These shutdowns rarely do.) - One interesting consideration about language: This chart and its forecast were correct in the sense that the really good thing that got money flowing again occurred this week. However, the forecast (but not the chart) was wrong in the sense that I used language implying that the whole week would be a spectacularly happy week for most people. That's a lesson in how to word forecasts: The chart doesn't shown an entirely good week, just that good, happy things would happen during the week.

Day: Capsolar Quotidian & Transits
This does not seem to me to be at all what we'd expect!
p Asc conj. t Saturn 1°22', s Saturn 1°35', s Mercury 1°10'; sq. t Moon 1°38'
-- t Moon conj. s Saturn 0°03'
p MC op p Moon 1°23', s Moon 1°00'
p EP conj. t Mercury 0°17'
-------------------------------------
t Uranus conj. s IC 1°44'
t Pluto conj. s EP 1°53'

Day: Cansolar Quotidian
(This, as well, is far from what I thought. Again, Moon-Saturn specifically are running this show. Based on this and the CapQ above, I had picked 1/25 as the bleakest, hardest days, not a day of celebration and success.)
p MC conj. s Saturn 1°01', sq. p Moon 0°46'
-- p Moon-Saturn sq. 0°17'

I can't find anything on when he actually took up pen and signed the bill. It was passed by the House and Senate in the afternoon. The official White House press release that it had been signed was issued at 9:31 PM.
He's still looking for a way to get his wall without congressional approval funding it by taking funds already appropriated for other programs with this declaring a national emergency idea.

Studying various news releases, it looks like the first tweet it was a done deal was 9:19 PM January 25.

Just to keep the data here somewhere, the shutdown began 0:00 December 22, 2018.

Polar Vortex weather

For the current influx of horrible cold down through the Midwest, see the current Liblunar maps: https://solunars.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2806#p20734
Look at those Mars and Saturn lines covering the longitudes from Minnesota-to-Louisiana acdross to the Indiana-to-Mississippi band.

CNN summarized this morning that 77% of the continental US population is facing sub-ero weather this week at a level not seen in about 25 years, with wind chill indices in the 35-60° below zero range! This is originating from the polar vortex dropping over the upper Midwest and Great Lakes areas, especially through Minnesota and Wisconsin, yet with snow forecast for Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. This is deadly stuff, and its right there in the two Liblunar astromaps.

Teacher strikes

Teacher strikes have been popping up across the country. Ours in LA got national press, then came Denver, and now Virginia, with these tending to be areas with no such strike in decades.

I thought I'd mention them and that I'm starting to equate these strikes - and for much the same reason, the recent government shutdown - as a direct consequence of the Jupiter-Neptune square. (Other things, too: Both probably come from the foreground Mercury-Saturn conjunction in the Capsolar.)

I have already long thought of Jupiter-Neptune as having to do with "wheeling and dealing" deal-making, and therefore always thought it perhaps connected to negotiation. Then I accumulated a century of history on Jupiter-Neptune aspects over the weekend and among the first obvious new conclusions are (1) there is a broad theme of "collectivism" in numerous ways, from organizing Communist states to organizing labor unions, (2) there is a specific attention to labor unions and their actions, and (3) strikes are specifically among the events that popped up within days of close Jupiter-Neptune aspects.

Marcel Paper Mill fire in NJ

January 30, 2019, 5 PM, Elmwood Park, NJ

Despite freezing weather, firefighters battled for hours to extinguish a fire at Marcel Paper Mill. Imagine giant rolls of paper on fire! Then the fire spread to propane tanks, and fierce winds whipped it up. Firefighters decided just to let it burn itself out. Apparently there were no casualties, but the plant was destroyed.

The fire began with Mars just past MC and with Sun, Mercury, and Uranus all closely angular.

CAPSOLAR: Main feature is, again, Sun-Uranus. Their square falls right on angles.

CAPLUNAR: Mercury is most angular; then a Saturn-Neptune mundane square lands in the foreground. (The Liblunar is the same three planets rearranged.)

CAPQ: Q Asc conjoins transiting and ingress Pluto, square transiting Mars. CanQ Asc then conjoins transiting Mars, square transiting Pluto, with Saturn just a little too far off MC.
