USA Mundane Forecast
for the four weeks beginning APRIL 25, 2019

If you are unfamiliar with the methods and interpretations of Sidereal mundane astrology, please see my free book Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link to the current edition can be found near the top of the Publications sub-forum.) For standard interpretations, see Chapter 8 of the current (16th) Edition.

LONG-TERM (Solar Ingress) PATTERNS
For the United States, the 12 months beginning January 15, 2019 are dominated by Uranus on IC square Sun on Eastpoint (aspect 0°08' wide in RA). Sun-Uranus signals startling events, which, historically, have included surprise attacks, sudden changes in leadership, and technology breakthroughs.

URANUS is most angular (2°36' from IC), predicting explosions (literal or metaphorical), sudden rupture or eruption, shock, surprise, overflowing normal bounds, and disclosures and revelations. Uranian events often have profound social impact to the point of defining the character of an era.

SUN (EP 1°53') concentrates attention on the government, especially the head of state, with increased government intervention or heightened perception of government’s presence in people’s lives. Sun's aspects to Uranus and Pluto infer rebellion against present leadership and rejection of prevailing political views. Sun-Pluto brings disrespect for the law or those forces that create it and enforce it, which sometimes means removing those in power.

MERCURY CONJOINS SATURN (2°46') in the foreground. Expect restrictions, delays, failures, or calamity relating to transportation and communication. Information flow is interrupted and rationed. Data integrity is doubted: cybersecurity remains a higher priority than cyber-expansion. Economic narrowing and backtracking on economic recovery interrupt commerce: more newspapers go out of business and more retail businesses close their doors.

Reinforcing the message of economic crisis, a MARS-JUPITER square (2°07') exists only mundanely, i.e., is geographically distinctive to Washington. This could be as slight as a few more government shutdowns or as ravaging as a market crash, but probably will be something between. Resources are squandered and stretched past their capacity. Belief-driven aggression accelerates. Bigots have louder voices. In nature, as in human affairs, expect stormy weather.

MERCURY CONJUNCT PLUTO (2°32' in mundo) anticipates major collisions of information, communication, and ideas. This suggests opposing factions in Congress will again engage passionately, unlike the tepid, rigid polarization of recent years. Investigations drill deeply into untapped data to disclose information that changes the prevailing paradigm, reframing how people think. Also, expect cyber attacks, including remote undermining of critical communication and cyber-control networks.

With Saturn in Sagittarius all year, immigration, aviation, elitism, hierarchical economic separation, and nationalism (anti-internationalism) dominate the public discussion.

Arisolar (Apr 15)
Due to a dormant Cansolar in July, the Arisolar is the operative Quarter chart for six months, from mid-April until mid-October. It is a chart of great severity. Saturn rises within 0°02' in Washington. Pluto is 2°34' below Ascendant, so that Saturn conjoins Pluto (2°32' in mundo). Together, Saturn and Pluto are PVP square Moon, with Moon-Saturn partile.

With SATURN RISING so closely, expect loss and deprivation, whether loss of property or human life. Expect the stock market to falter, the economy to narrow, and banks to be imperiled. Damage from natural disasters increases. Foremost, with this Moon-Saturn-Pluto trio, human cruelty rises as human hearts harden and sadness spreads like a dark cloud.

Saturn-Pluto in particular brings dramatic hardships, sometimes with an apocalyptic sense of irrevocable loss or separation. Moon-Saturn is marked by sacrifice, loss, and sadness. Moon-Pluto, intensifying the rest, emphasizes separation, alienation, and departures. The emotional impact of genocide matches these aspects, though of course other physical outcomes are possible.

MEDIUM-TERM PATTERNS (The Bridge)
  • Transiting Pluto on Capsolar Eastpoint all month.
  • Transiting Mars sq. Cansolar Moon & Ascendant & conj. Cansolar MC May 6-13
  • Transiting Mars on Capsolar Descendant May 19-22.

SHORT-TERM (Lunar Ingress) PATTERNS

Caplunar (Apr 25)
The Caplunar covers April 25 to May 23, especially the first week, April 25-May 3. Uranus sets (1°16') conjunct foreground Sun and in partile (0°27') PVP square to Mars on the Vertex. The basic tone of this is startling and explosive, taking us all by surprise!

Each of these astrological factors say much the same thing. Foremost, angular Uranus normally signifies sudden rupture or eruption, shock, surprise, explosiveness, and overflowing normal boundaries and limitations. Many Uranian events involve disclosures and revelations. With Sun-Uranus aspects, we again expect the psychologically (if not physically) startling and explosive. With Sun's foreground placement, these likely refer directly to the president or, otherwise, to the government as a whole. Historic events under this combination include sudden violence, changes in foreign relationships, and changes in leadership through death, coup, or resignation. Finally, Mars-Uranus reiterates the explosive, psychological “bombshells,” and perhaps startling violence. (All of these possibilities are amplified by Moon conjunct Pluto.)

Jupiter passes through Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco (predicting April rain in Seattle is an easy call; perhaps other Jupiter events will emerge). Saturn and Pluto bring hardship along the whole length of the Mississippi River valley and along a wide swath of the Midwest.

CapQ MC squares transiting Uranus 4/26, which is the outstanding Uranian day this week. In the more active CanQ, two Saturn's are angular 4/25, Pluto on 4/27, and transiting Venus hovers in orb of MC all week.

Arilunar (May 3)
The Arilunar covers May 3-10 and reiterates much of what the Caplunar said but without the Mars themes. Uranus is most angular (square MC 1°14'), with Sun widely foreground. Everything said above about Uranus angular and Sun-Uranus collaboration applies to the new week especially.

Additionally, Moon makes three important aspects. First, Moon conjoins Uranus (0°18' in mundo), which mostly reiterates Uranus themes. This is a week of very big surprises. -- The other two Moon aspects are connected: Moon conjoins Mercury 0°56' and squares Pluto 1°52'. Though we can interpret Moon-Mercury and Moon-Pluto separately, I think the weight goes to the partile background Mercury-Pluto square highlighted by Moon's touch, which says that this week's surprise is information, likely exposed from deep investigation. Under Mercury-Pluto, conventional and unconventional ideas collide as new information's impact stuns the intellect and repatterns how people think about things.

Please check the astro-maps for this Arilunar: They have enormous complexity, both om the West Coast (Mars-Jupiter-Neptune, with Mars-Jupiter straddling Los Angeles) and, especially, a converge of more than half the planets through the middle part of the country: Perhaps the Moon-Saturn-Uranus crossings from Iowa to Louisiana are most worrisome. The Texas gulf coast has Venus-Pluto with Saturn.

CanQ MC stays in orb of transiting Venus the first few days; however, by 5/9, with Venus withdrawn, Q MC squares Saturn-Pluto, foreshadowing the week that follows.

Canlunar (May 10)
The Canlunar, covering May 10-16, closely resembles the Arisolar. Saturn is less than half a degree from Ascendant with Saturn conjunct Pluto (2°28') the dominant aspect. Moon near Descendant opposes Saturn and Pluto mundanely. As said for the Arisolar:

Additionally, Moon squares Venus (1°20'), which highlights a half-degree Venus-Pluto square. (Venus is not angular, but important only due to the Moon aspect.) This unleashes deeper, more intimate emotion about these events. Venus-Pluto combinations sponsor acute changes in relationships, often through loss of loved ones and the destruction of homes and community.

Finally, Mercury is widely foreground, conjunct a non-foreground Uranus. Aside from the possibility (always present with Mercury-Uranus) of a major air or other transportation accident, this reiterates the theme of information disclosures and revelations.

If this chart shows crisis somewhere in the country, it is most likely to be in Florida and then along the entire Atlantic seaboard (from Miami to Portland) where Saturn-Pluto saturate the space. With their square to Venus, this reinforces the idea of rain but also of human-tragic stories. Also targeted by Saturn-Pluto (see the second Canlunar map, for planets square the angles) is a wide patch mid-country from the longitudes of Minnesota (and due south) west to central Texas (and due north).

Perhaps easing some pressure, Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune are the only planets crossing CapQ angles this week. Venus begins the week and Jupiter-Neptune ends it, leaving midweek for the Canlunar to express itself unimpeded. The most volatile, harsh day is 5/14 when CapQ Asc opposes ingress Mars as its EP opposes transiting Saturn.

Liblunar (May 16)
The Liblunar covers two weeks, May 16-30. Diverging sharply from the Caplunar and other ingresses of the month, it likely means a quick shift in tone. Jupiter is 0°38' from Westpoint and Neptune 2° from MC; they are square within about 2° in RA; and Sun (on the Antivertex) is in 0°23' PVP square with Neptune.

Jupiter-Neptune has been elusive to interpret this year, and that elusiveness may be the main point. Its essence is unreasoned optimism, typically offering more show than substance. With Jupiter-Neptune, a confidence game often is afoot which, in politics, tends to mean posturing and maneuvering for advantage, or an empty show of problem-solving. Scandal may ruin reputations, but sometimes they are enhanced like TV ratings; that is, many little emperors and empresses have no clothes, but it isn't clear from the aspect whether they're getting away with their pretense or getting called out for public nudity. There is an aura of royalty and great farce in this Sun-Jupiter-Neptune triplet.

At least the two weeks of this surreal optimism probably will see the stock market recover the losses of the prior week.

Lunar aspects suggest that the nobles' nakedness gets called out but, perhaps, nobody cares. In addition to the Moon-Pluto square, Moon makes mundane oppositions with a Venus-Uranus conjunction. Moon with Pluto and Uranus normally blows the masks off the actors, but Venus-Uranus added to Jupiter-Neptune makes for vaudevillian buffoonery or a timeout (for the Memorial Day holiday?) for a little fun at the fair.

Western Kansas may see late-season twisters, with a Sun-Neptune crossing. California earns its "sunny" nickname. Miami experiences something violent (and perhaps other spots along the curve from Miami to Fargo).

Capsolar Jupiter & Neptune touch CapQ angles the first day of this week to get us in the mood. Transiting Neptune squares Asc 5/19, then transiting Jupiter crosses Q Dsc 5/22 (concurrent with a CanQ Jupiter crossing).

PROGRESSIONS & TRANSITS
Continuing in orb, as the month begins, progressed Mars sextile natal Pluto and progressed Venus conjunct natal Jupiter (with Venus also trine r Uranus & progressed Sun aspecting the Venus-Jupiter) are the long-term aspects remaining. However, signs of increased combat emerge May 1, when progressed Mars begins to semi-square natal Mars. Progressed Moon has touched both of those Mars placements for the last two months and leaves orb of natal Mars also on May 1, as if handing a short-term progression over to the longer-term Mars-Mars.

Trump's main long-term transit (beginning 4/26) is transiting Neptune square natal Uranus. For months we have seen this at wider orbs occasionally coming to lunar return angles yet with no single message, probably because its effects are primarily psychological. Astrologers often associate it with untruthfulness and the masking or distorting of candor or clarity. In any case, Neptune-Uranus combinations always mean a clash of divergent realities. In this transit combination it commonly means that a compelling personal vision or dream incites one to make abrupt, surprising moves or shifts.

For Trump, whatever is hidden is likely soon to be unhidden because, beginning April 29, transiting Uranus aspects natal Uranus as well. This always marks a turning point in life. Dual transits of Neptune and Uranus to his Uranus imply a juncture where one is compelled to choose (1) new freedom through unshackling and change or (2) old security through clinging to what is most familiar.

All month, Jupiter transits either his Sun or Moon (opposite his Sun until 5/11, conjunct his Moon beginning 5/7). These transits are a great blessing to him and, were it not that his lunar returns are much harsher, we would expect uninterrupted respect, popularity, and winning. However, as his chart otherwise shows great conflict (see below), we can't expect this to be as positive as usual. Perhaps Jupiter will show most as protection and patronage where it gives him advantages he otherwise wouldn't have.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Apr 23)
Mars-Neptune dominates this Lunar Return. This brings real threat and outright betrayal. Threats are at least psychological and might be physical: For example, Mars-Neptune dominated Richard Nixon's SLR for his resignation.

Natal Uranus on IC is conjoined by Mars and squared by Neptune. Events are stressful and abrupt. His response is the surprise aggression of a man who feels he has nothing to lose. In fact, his foreground natal planets are primed for stress, aggression, and combat: A natal Mars-Pluto conjunction forms mundanely and is mundanely square transiting Mars. (The Mars-Mars transit is 2°51' on one side and Mars-Pluto 2°05' on the other. t Ma = r Ma/Pl is 0°28' wide.)

By comparison, what protection he has seems slim. Transiting Jupiter is 0°08' from opposite his Sun. Another partile middleground solar aspect, the transiting Sun-Uranus conjunction, promises plenty of surprises and disclosures.

On April 27, the transiting Mars-Neptune square is exact, smack on Trump's SNQ angles. As aftershocks, Mars transits his natal Uranus April 28, his Moon May 3, and his Sun May 6.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (May 7)
Transiting Neptune, Jupiter, and Mars are on angles of the Demi-SLR along with natal Moon, Uranus, and Sun. The strongest aspect among transits is Mars square Jupiter (1°15' in mundo). The closest transits are Mars-Jupiter to his Sun and Neptune to his Uranus.

Writing this in January, the Mars-Jupiter-Neptune angularity looks like a legal battle. It may not be that, but events will have much in common with a hard-fought legal battle. Mars-Neptune with Jupiter on the side in the SLR has shifted to Mars-Jupiter with a side-order of Neptune in the Demi. Mars opposite Jupiter along the meridian expresses competitive confidence and buoyant excessiveness. It usually means trouble with money, somehow ending the period with less of it than at the start.

Jupiter is partile opposite his Sun and (almost partile) conjunct his Moon. Mars also aspects the luminaries, and is a little closer to his Sun than is Jupiter. His luck is strong, but so is the attack brought against him. It looks like a boisterous battle on both sides. With so strong a Jupiter presence, he looks to win but not without paying a dear price. (Venus square Saturn 0°18' suggests losing something dear to him.)

And then there is Neptune. One wonders, therefore, how much is really at stake vs. how much is just for show. As Neptune squares his Uranus, his future seems unclear and he thinks and acts more outside the box than usual.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (May 20)
So little is happening in Donald Trump's new SLR that it is as if he isn't even there. All of us have months when our Lunar Returns have nothing close or dynamic happening and, most of the time, they are relatively uneventful months; but it is difficult to conceive of a calm, uneventful month for Donald Trump at this point in his life.

The simplest explanation is that he isn't in Washington when this chart sets up and, therefore, somewhere else in a world an SLR occurs that shows the drama of his new month. If we learn that this is the case, I'll add a supplemental analysis of the corrected SLR.

Sun conjoins Mercury (partile), 6-7° off MC. The banal (but likely true) meaning is that, acting as head of state, he issues a significant written or verbal communication that is the main event of the next two weeks. Besides that aspect, Neptune is in the far wings of the foreground (almost 10° off Descendant), which contributes little.

Three non-foreground partile transits exist and may hold a stronger voice than usual. Most important of these, Jupiter conjoins his natal Moon (0°13'), which normally gives an enhanced sense of well-being, much emotion (usually happy), the release of accumulated tensions, and being the center of positive, social, respectful attention. More caustic is Mercury's square to natal Mars (0°38'). Finally, Neptune squares natal Uranus (0°28'), which has been much more prominent in lunar returns for earlier weeks.

This was especially true in Indianapolis (Uranus and Pluto partile angular) where the NRA annual meeting blew up leading to Oliver North's resignation as president.

This weekend is Cinco de Mayo. It's actually Sunday, but there are parades and celebrations on Saturday.
The Arilunar maps show Mars lines near Los Angeles and Houston TX, and nearby areas. The Houston area also has a Venus line and a Saturn line that's close enough. Parades and celebrations mean children.
People who've had their paranoia and anger supported and directed toward "Mexicans" are unlikely to appreciate municipal celebrations of the holiday.
Just something to watch.

(BTW, Cinco de Mayo celebrates a victory of the much smaller Mexican army over the French Imperial army which was trying to take over Mexico in 1862. )

Please help me track where Trump is May 20 when his new SLR sets up. For Washington, it's so devoid of anything that I suspect he'll be somewhere else and have a different SLR. Wed're looking at 1:28 PM EDT on May 20.

In general, the White House (his staff) no longer makes his official calendar public till midnight of the day. Other unofficial calendars have been shut down.
Is it paranoia if it's based on real concerns?

I know he will be in Pennsylvania tonight. I think he was in Washington all day. Anyone know different?

Thanks. So he was in DC for the SLR. It's a strangely flat chart, though the next three easily make up for it.

Today at 11:15 AM, Trump was supposed to meet with Pelosi and Schumer and others from congress to discuss an infrastructure bill. Pelosi had a meeting immediately before with her house caucus and said afterward they had concluded Trump was engaged in a coverup, but they weren't going to impeach at this time.
Trump stormed into the infrastructure meeting, never sat down, denounced "the Dems" as plotting against him, stormed out after 3 minutes to a press conference in the Rose Garden that included printed signs (this was prepared before Mrs. Pelosi's remarks), and said there wouldn't be any legislating until the Dems stopped investigating him.
There were some heads up to the press from White House Aides earlier this morning to watch the meeting because Trump had something planned.

I think he won't be doing anything this week except blowing up.
NYS passed a law allowing the US congress access to NYS tax returns.
Mr. Schumer said he throught Trump hadn't come up with a plan to fund an infrastructure bill, thus the pre-planned post blowup press conference.

This is awesome.

It's also a great example of partile transits in a new lunar. His new SLR is boring, but it has a partile Mercury square to his Mars.
