Doris Day

Doris Day was born April 3, 1922, 4:30 PM, Cincinnati, OH. according to her birth certificate. (Until the BC was uncovered in 2017, her birth year was usually given as 1924.) She died earlier today.
She died of pneumonia as transiting Mars exactly conjoined her Moon in Gemini. (Venus also conjoins her Venus today.) Many biographical articles (aka obituaries) are available today, so if you don't know her story it's easy to catch up.
Doris and I used to shop at the same Hughes Market two-thirds of my life ago. I ran into her often, was in line behind her a few times. None of these encounters were pleasant and a few were quite unpleasant. I'm sure at least part of this was the way our horoscopes interact, although the Hughes staff was none too happy when she walked in either (in comparison to Diana Ross, a block over, who was always gracious). My perception was that Doris wasn't very happy with her life, and I'm pleased that reports over the years suggest she became happier with her life later on.
Our charts are quite connected - same ascendant degree, Sun in nearly opposite degree, her Moon on both of our Midheavens, her Mercury on my Moon and angle. Her Jupiter conjoins my Sun, but I never felt that. I think the real issue was her Mars square my Moon.
But astrologers my whole life loved talking about her marsiness because Doris Day was one of the first names ever to come up when Tropical Aries was discussed. Of course, she was really a Pisces, but Mars was foreground in Scorpio (Mars and Saturn both foreground, Moon and Mercury closer). One would think that a Pisces Sun partile opposite Jupiter would be gracious, but I've never heard that word applied t Doris.
Anyway, I'm writing this RIP post partly to honor a huge life of celebrity and partly as a step in deciding 40 years is way too long to stay peeved at t he crabby lady in front of me at the grocery store. She was a wonder of sorts.
One interesting thing caught my eye this morning. Much discussion is about regarding the difference between her actual nature and her public persona. It's not surprising (ever) that a Pisces is playing a role. In Doris' case, her public "role" was one of wholesomeness and innocent simplicity, leading comedians eventually to paint her as a perpetual virgin. Well, it turns out she did have Virgo rising (and even Saturn rising in Virgo) - a great example of how the Ascendant sign, though not part of the deep character does tend to be who we are seen and characturized. This, despite the fat that many of her actual roles were quite steamy for their time.
