Chart of a nice guy

I have a friend on twitter who seems to have a pretty amazing chart, one seemingly inclined toward social success with an angular and concurrently partile Moon-Jupiter opposition, a partile Mercury-Jupiter opposition, and a wider Sun-Jupiter opposition, as well as an angular. Venus. He's a cool guy and I appreciate him, but he's often having issues which run contrary I think to the nature of his map, issues with fitting in and getting people to like him, issues with severe social awkwardness you know, and as a result he often spends his time alone. He also has serious trouble with women. The only indications of all this in his chart are a Sun-Neptune trine and a partile octile between Venus and Saturn. Are these enough to override the more positive social indicators? This chart has been bothering me for a while, any thoughts will be appreciated

Without a doubt, the most potent planetary influence in your friend’s Natal chart is Venus with a mundo conjunction of Venus on r IC, 0,20. And the cosmic state of this r. Venus is afflicted with a partile 135 sesquiquadrate to r Saturn, par-excellent symbolism being inhibited (Saturn) with Women (Venus). This one aspect is a dominating feature of this Natal Chart because Venus is on an angle with a partile 135 aspect to Saturn. Also with the teachings of the German Schools on Midpoints, this partile 135 Venus-Saturn aspect forms a direct Venus/Saturn = Ascendant 0,26, definitely the most important potent midpoint in the entire Natal Chart. Ebertin offers a delineation for this midpoint as:
Emotional inhibitions, the demonstration of shyness in the presence of other people. The desire for solitude or for separation from others.
Robert Hand teaches: 'ignore direct natal midpoints on the angles at your on peril'.

Steve nailed it, I think. His most important planet is Venus and Venus is afflicted. (Venus is the only Class 1 angularity, the others are all 6-7° out.) My boilerplate for a Venus-Saturn octile is:
Work, duty, devotion are gratifying. Restrictions in love; ordinary pleasures may be deferred. Many seem comfortable unpartnered, though there is rarely sexual restraint. Childhood hardship or deprivation shape adult patterns. Sober, responsible.
There may also be a bit of the distancing difficulty from Venus' sign, Leo:
“Parents” his friends (= unequal relationships). Self-surrender is hard; vain, aloof. Bold when romance captures their interest (but many older bachelors). “Shoppers” in romance, testing the ground first. Early sexual mismatches (unhealthy early relationships). Keen sense of morality & dignity. Generous friend.
Of course, all of the Jupiter characteristics that you mention are also there. He's likely to reach some significant success - he thinks of himself large and grand. The Mercury-Jupiter, in particular, should help him considerably. But none of these are intimate, and you seem to be describing conditions of intimacy, not conditions of worldly success.

The problem isn't in the luminary signs, even though Virgo is the Fall of Venus (but that doesn't help with an afflicted Venus). The Virgo-Leos that come to mind are bright, able people that are genuinely liked by those around them.

Additionally, over the last year or more (is this the time you've known him?), transiting Neptune has been crossing his natal MC, recently opposed his Venus and soon to oppose his Moon-Mercury and conjoin his Jupiter. This will have a lot to say about his life path for the next couple of years at least. (Uranus, by octiles, is also hitting or approaching his Moon, Mercury, and Jupiter.)

PS - I assume you meant Elmhurst. You left the s out, but this is the only town in Illinois I can find with a similar name,

Jupiter hasn't much to do with "social success." I think it can cause social failure. It can incline to entitlement issues (aka a superiority complex) or just a style of speech that feels like being talked down at to others.
as well as an angular. Venus. He's a cool guy and I appreciate him, but he's often having issues which run contrary I think to the nature of his map, issues with fitting in and getting people to like him, issues with severe social awkwardness you know, and as a result he often spends his time alone. The Sun-Neptune trine is a Neptune square Saturn trine the Sun, which probably means he doesn't read situations with other people well. Does he rehearse conversations in his head and when they don't go the way he thought they should, gets confused and flustered? The Saturn square Neptune inhibits his ability to read other people and situations, and the Sun ties that back to his ego.

You said he has issues with severe social awkwardness "and also" serious trouble with women. These are not two separate things. They are the same thing. He really needs to understand that. Women are not "different," they are "more so," since evolutionarily and physically they have to be more sensitive to awkwardness and unusual behavior. Act weird around another guy, he's likely to go "well, that's just Jim." Act weird around a woman, she'll say GET AWAY YOU'RE SCARING ME!!! but not out loud because she doesn't want you to freak out and try to choke her or something.
When men talk to women, they're trying to figure out if they might get sex. When women talk to men they're trying to figure out if they might get killed. That's really true and men have to get that at the front of their minds.

You don't "get" people to like you. You change your behavior so they don't react as if you're hard to read and can't fit into normal human groups. If this were my friend, I'd suggest he find a behavorial counselor and then do what the counselor suggests.

I assumed the same Jim. Link below is the friend’s natal chart with Elmhurst coordinates.
