When you are concerned what other people think about you.

Never undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special. Do not set your goals by what other people deem important, only you know what is best for you. Do not take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life. Without them, life is meaningless.

Veronica asked:
Who are you quoting?
I do not know Veronica. These words were written down on a hand out folder given to me in Chicago in 1977 with some astrological material when my wife and I spent a couple of days with a high grade Psychic (wife) and her Husband (astrologer). This was the first time my wife and I were exposed to the higher learning of Astrology. As the years past with me learning more about myself through the lens of my Natal Chart and with the words told to me by the Psychic--the more I started paying attention to the above quoted words. These words have helped me accept myself as who "I Am" astrologically, and pay closer attention to what I feel on a heart level. I ran across this same 1977 folder a few days ago and thought I would pass these words on for other learning astrologers.

Though I found it quoted in many books and webpages that gave the illusion of originality......disappointing to see authors use things not their iwn and try to pass it off as thiers....
Here is the complete poem
A Creed To Live
- Author Unknown
Don’t undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others,
It is because we are different that each of us is special.
Don’t set your goals by what other people deem important,
Only you know what is best for you.
Don’t take for granted the things closest to your heart
Cling to that as you would your life, for without them life is
meaningless.
Don’t let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or the
future.
By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.
Don’t give up when you still have something to give
Nothing is really over … until the moment you stop trying.
Don’t be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect,
It is the fragile thread that binds us to each other.
Don’t be afraid to encounter risks,
It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
Don’t shut love out of your life by saying it’s impossible to find.
The quickest way to receive love is to give love.
The fastest way to lose love is to hold on too tightly,
And the best way to keep love is to give it wings.
Don’t dismiss your Dreams. To be without dreams is to be without
hope.
To be without hope is to be without purpose.
Don’t run through life so fast that you forget where you’ve been,
But also know where you’re going.
Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored every step of the way.

Hits close to home for me. I foolishly chose chemistry as a major just because I was given a list of the highest paying jobs that a major can get you, in high school. I naturally dropped out after dealing with extreme boredom in organic chemistry 2. Its not by any means objectively boring, but it was for me, because I was ignoring my purpose in life. Also in high school (my whole high school experience was unfortunately characterized by trying to achieve coolness) I quit taking piano lessons because I wanted to be in a cool rock band and in order to do that I needed to play a different instrument. Thankfully, a natural but slow progression of providence showed me progressive rock, while urged me to begin improvising on keyboard again, then from progressive rock it was natural that I began to appreciate the position of a composer -- the best position for developing highly structural music. Since classical is taboo these days for some reason, I first listened to video game composers to break the ice (they are absolutely on the same level as any other composer, with maybe a harder job which demands quickness even). Now I feel great having my goals firmly established in composition, which is just clearly where all the vectors point. So, my point is that society can be wonderful but also very poisonous, but not truly, only through strange pathologies we hold in comparing ourselves to other at large. It took me a very long time to worm my way back to general sanity. Now the majority, however slight, of my vectors inhabit the same hemisphere.
