Trump is not welcome to come onto the Oglala Sioux land.

Trump is planning to visit Mt. Rushmore tomorrow. Except Mt. Rushmore is on Oglala Sioux land, and they are (and have been) blocking people from entering their territory because of the pandemic and have told him he doesn't have permission to visit.
The Governor of S. Dakota, which puts on a fireworks show at the monument every year, is livid.
All the fireworks are probably not going to be in the sky tomorrow.

Temp. Shut down of the piping of oil across the Sioux Nation. Seems the Army Corps permits were subpar.
Great victory for the Sioux Nation as the pipe goes across the Missouri River and would/could/did foul thier drinking and cleaning water.
Supreme Court unanimous on faithless electors

Last election, three electors pledged to vote for the candidate who won the popular vote (in their case Mrs. Clinton) chose instead to write in votes for Colin Powell, in an effort to persuade electors pledged to Trump to also vote for Powell.
Didn't work, and the Supreme Court ruled today electors pleaded to vote for the winner of the popular vote in their state may not vote for someone else, and may be fined if they try.
Supreme court 6-3 supports Telephone Consumer Protect Act

by Jupiter Sets at Dawn
SCOTUS rejected a challenge to the 1991 Telephone Consumer Protection Act, intended to stop the nuisance of computer-dialed cellphone numbers, 6-3. In 2015, Congress added an exception to the law, allowing robocalls made to collect debts owed to the federal government. That was challenged as discriminatory (by fundraisers, pollsters and political groups) based on the content of the call. The court said it was discriminatory, but struck the provision from the law, so we aren't going to have political robocalls blowing up our phones for the next four months.

The executive order Trump issued allowing some businesses to refuse to pay for birth control under the AWA because of the business owners religious or moral stands.
Religious organizations who refuse to hire people based on their faith or lack thereof may continue to do so, without being challenged for religious discrimination.

The Democratic Convention next week is officially going to be fully virtual.
Probably time to figure out "where" in regards to virtual conventions and such. I think it's going to matter more often, and there may not always be one principle (such as Biden) to center on.

Good point. We should try to find out where Biden will be.
But it's not next week. It got moved to mid-August, a week before the RNC.

You're right. The Democratic committee is being sued by the (Republican) owner of the original venue to pay the entire rental amount, and I think that's what's going to happen next week.

A couple of months ago, it was rescheduled to August 17-20 . I remember noting that Biden has terrible transits.
https://www.demconvention.com/
But Biden's August 10 SLR for Delaware has natal Venus on WP as the closest angularity. (I still don't like Saturn opposite his Jupiter - triggered by Mars a couple of days later - while Neptune transits his IC. Progressed Moon squares Saturn a month later.)
Ah, but he has this going for the convention (just discovered): SQ Moon square SSR Jupiter (to the minute)!

SCOTUS decisions on Trump taxes
Posted: Thu Jul 09, 2020 8:00 am
by Jim Eshelman
Two 7-2 Supreme Court decisions on Trump's taxes this morning - surely decided together with some horse trading behind the bench.
First, they found Trump cannot block the NY prosecutors from getting his taxes, under the "nobody is above the law" argument.
Second, they found that Congress' demand for these records required more work. The lower courts had not developed the opposing argument adequately (about separation of powers). They sent it back to the lower court to develop this, and Congress can't get them in the mean time.
It seems to me that the real purpose of the second decision was to delay this until after the election. Once the court can no longer be accused of interfering (advertently or inadvertently) in a political process, they will almost certainly apply the "nobody is above the law" and "Congress has a constitutional duty" standards.
These outcomes (plus the president's niece's book) seem perfectly covered by his current SLR, with his next Demi and full SLR leading up to a very damaging few weeks. Here's the current "Trump Watch" -

Seoul mayor found murdered

by Jim Eshelman
Soul's mayor was reported missing by his daughter and, soon after, found dead. Not a lot of details yet.
The Cansolar tells the story the best. For Seoul, transiting Jupiter-Pluto squares its MC - consistent with such things as coups, especially political overthrows, especially if ideologically fueled. One of my standard sentences for this is, "Political undermining or reversals (leaders attacked, removed; fall of regimes; reversals in political dominance; covert operations)."
Then, today, CanQ Dsc crossed Saturn at 4° Capricorn, as CanQ MC 21° Pisces squared ingress Saturn.

Rented a boat. Did not return rental at 3PM
Searchers found the boat about 4PM, floating free with the baby asleep inside. No sign of Rivera. Child said he and his mother had gone swimming but she didn't get back on the boat.
The search continues today.
SCOTUS: Creek Nation over State of OK 5-4
Posted: Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:52 pm
by Jupiter Sets at Dawn
It's been the law since the 1890s that the Federal government has sole jurisdiction over Native Americans who commit major crimes on a Reservation. The State of OK said since individuals have sold their ownership of plots of land on their reservation to non-Native Americans, the reservation has been disestablisthed and the state has jurisdiction over Native Americans who commit murder or rape while on the Reservation.
The Supreme Court said, nope. Only Congress has the authority to disestablish a reservation, and selling plots of land doesn't change the jurisdiction of the land.
OK also said since the land was purchased by the Creek Nation instead of originally being federal land and given to them, it wasn't really a reservation. Court said nope. Congress made it a reservation and it is.
OK also said it's been their historical practice to act as if they have jurisdiction over Native Americans no matter if they were on or off the reservation. Court said, nope. Breaking the law doesn't negate the law.
In this case, Roberts was part of the 4, and Gorsuch not only was the 5th of 5, but he wrote the majority report.
Gorsuch has a lot of interest in this kind of decision, and is likely to side with Native Americans in many of these jurisdictional disputes in the future. This one decision has what are likely to be far-reaching consequences, limiting states overstepping both past and future.

This is a really fascinating wave of decisions. Roberts id doing a remarkable job of maintaining and strengthening the overall integrity of the court.
One very interesting thing is that the Supreme Court is usually done with their season by the end of June. This year, they're rolling strong through July. This coincides with Jupiter having retrograded into Sagittarius and (possibly also relevant) conjoining Pluto.

They stopped holding in person arguments for awhile because of the Corona Virus. Then they held arguments by phone, and in a really big deal break from tradition, the sessions were open so anybody could listen in, and a lot of people did. They extended into July so they could get all the cases out they would have if not for the virus.
The two Trump cases were the last for this session and they won't reconvene till after the election.

I think this is just more Saturn-Pluto (and Saturn in Capricorn). The same stuff that's triggering essentially everything this year.
The last several years of writing monthly mundane forecasts has made increasingly evident that, dang, one could be very right about every month of the year if you just repeat the Capsolar forecast unchanged every month, perhaps supplementing it with transits across its angles. This year it's foreground Sun-Saturn-Pluto square Uranus with the Saturn-Pluto conjunction being the closest aspect in the set - and then Saturn went into Capricorn January 31.

In 1977, a very wise man told me I may live to see a revaluation of our currency. He told me to start horading Susan B Anthony $ when they came out--said if they revalue the currency the gov would not call in coins. I never really understood what he was trying to explain to me. But he said all face value of coins could increase 10-20 fold. If this is getting ready to happen, I figure the word is leaking out and people are beginning to hoard coins.

Because people are paying with debit cards, not cash, and all the coins are sitting in boxes on people's dressers or in the bottom of their purses.
There isn't a shortage of coins. They just aren't being circulated right now.

This is not getting ready to happen. People aren't "hoarding" coins. They just aren't using cash right now, so coins are not in circulation. As soon as people start going to buy lattes while on break or hamburgers at lunch (ie back to work away from home) the coins will show up again.

So coins are being taken out of circulation because of Covid-19 with people not using cash/coins--but credit cards. Makes good sense.

As often happens, the event chart itself has nothing to offer.
Like all of Southern California, San Diego's Capsolar has Neptune rising, good for all sorts of excitement. The Arisolar has Mercury rising.
Of great interest, though is the Caplunar: San Diego was primed for something like this. Neptune is < 2° from square Asc, Mars is < 1° from IC. (This is in addition to the ubiquitous Moon-Pluto partile aspects.)
With a long-term backdrop of transiting Neptune square Capsolar MC, the CapQ also brought Neptune to an angle - both Neptunes on its Descendant - with transiting Mars 25' from opposite CapQ Moon worldwide. It's quite on the money (though Neptune angular events often are a lot of commotion and worry for an ultimately small event).
Oh, for explosion itself (rather than just commotion and fire), the Cansolar got in the mix: Transiting Uranus is 0°06' from its San Diego Descendant. Then, CanQ angles swung around to conjoin Cansolar Mars and Uranus.
It's quite a precise convergence of factors.

Sudan's post-revolutionary transitional government has (over the past week?) approved several law reforms, among which are repealing the death penalty (which were applied to crimes like apostasy [now decriminalised] and gay sex [reduced to a prison sentence]), repealing corporal punishment such as public flogging, criminalising female genital mutlation (FGM), abolishing the requirement for women needing a permit from a "male guardian" to travel with their children, allowing non-Muslims to drink in private and some others.

It's a small storm (Category 1, 90 mph winds at landfall), but the only one we've had this year so we might as well take a look. It landed as Neptune crossed IC of the area.
A big part of the story is that the area hit (around Corpus Christi) has had an unusually bad time with COVID-19.
I'm expecting a poor showing - except, that would be appropriate for a small storm. I've been watching the area all year and, while other parts of the Gulf coast are very threat-prone this year, Texas has been dominated by benefics. Let's see how it shakes out for today... (Conclusion: It looks like a whole lot of rain and, at best, the kind of event that has low or no casualties... until the Week, when all hell breaks loose! Seattle & Portland Protests
Posted: Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:05 am
by Jim Eshelman
CNN this morning:
It was another weekend of protests, arrests and calls for justice. In Seattle, at least 47 protesters were arrested on Saturday night alone. The Department of Homeland Security has said a response team from US Customs and Border Protection will be sent to the city to remain on standby to help protect federal facilities. A similar situation has unfolded in Portland, Oregon, which has become a focal point of ongoing unrest after President Trump sent federal agents to the city earlier this month to protect federal property. Other demonstrations took over city streets in Aurora, Colorado; Oakland, California; Louisville, Kentucky and other locations. In Austin, Texas, a man was killed on Saturday after shots were fired into a crowd of protesters. A suspect is in custody.
Seattle and Portland are on the same meridian of longitude - which is also the same as San Francisco and Oakland. If factors or on or square the MC axis of one, it hits all of them together.
In the 7/20 Canlunar, Mars squared Ascendant through Portland but didn't reach as high as Seattle. But it was the Liblunar, which didn't come into play until Sunday (after the worst of it in Seattle) that really shows this, with Saturn on IC near Seattle, Portland, and Oakland. Additionally, Pluto squares Ascendant through the Bay Area, while Jupiter-Pluto roughly straddle Seattle and Portland.
But if the Liblunar didn't come in until Sunday afternoon, why were things so terrible Saturday night? That would seem to have everything to do with the Cansolar Quotidian, which had transiting and ingress Saturns conjunct Ascendant.
Najib found guilty

Earlier today (July 28), former Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razak was sentenced to 12 years in jail and a 210 million ringgit (US$49 mil.) fine after the Kuala Lumpur High Court convicted him on all 7 charges for the first of a series of cases involving the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal. He still has more trials to face, and he is now on bail/stay of execution pending his appeal to the Court of Appeal.
The sentence was delivered by the judge on/around 6.30pm, when t.Pluto was partile on the Eastpoint, t.Saturn was partile sq. MC, t.Jupiter was 2 degrees above the Ascendant (and the t.Jupiter/t.Pluto midpoint was partile on the Ascendant
in mundo). Najib's Saturn-Neptune conjunction was also squaring the Ascendant partile, with his Mars squaring the MC around 1°. And oh, the Moon was in Libra.

Najib Razak was born on the 23rd of July, 1953 in Kuala Lipis, Pahang, Malaysia (location can be found in Solar Fire's database). His birth time is unfortunately unavailable. I even found a video of him holding his renewed birth certificate, but there was no time of birth stated on it.
Though, I remember I estimated his birth time to be around 9.45am.
It showed a fitting SLR for his arrest and arraignment two years ago.
His current SLR for Kuala Lumpur (which is also his residence) has transiting Sun and Mercury straddling the MC with their mundane midpoint conjunct it partile. It looks good for the court matter and media attention, but doesn't show the negative judgement, unless you count the SLR aspects:
t.Sun oct. r.Pluto 0°06'
in mundo
t.Moon oct. t.Saturn 0°57'
in mundo
t. Venus oct. r.Saturn-Neptune, 0°41' and 0°39' respectively
in eclipto
t.Saturn conj. r.Sun 0°54'
in mundo (0°56'
in eclipto)
t.Saturn oct. r.Venus-Jupiter, 0°31' & 0°25' respectively
in mundo
Quite fascinating that even in a locale near the equator, mundane aspects can add a lot of info, in this case, bringing "near-miss" ecliptical aspects into partile orb.
Looking at secondary progressions (using birth place) for 6.30pm, he has progressed Moon sesqui-squaring both p.Saturn (0°28') and t.Saturn (0°25'). Natal Pluto is partile on progressed MC (0°01'!) with progressed Pluto closely on MC and Zenith but partile on neither. p.Mars also semisquares a partile progressed Uranus-Neptune square. Intriguingly, p.Venus and p.Mercury are semisquare each other. p.Mercury also makes a partile square to natal Uranus (is this valid?)
He didn't have a lot of transits today, other than the Sun conjunct his Mercury (which lasted until the early afternoon), t.Jupiter opposing his Uranus (which I find odd, unless that refers to his million-ringgit cash bail/stay of execution) and t.Neptune 0°57' oct. r.Mercury.
His new SSR looks quite inactive, though when looking at ecliptical aspects from SSR to natal, the chart seems to lean positive. His demi-SLR looks inactive too.
Of course, this is just using an estimated birth time and it could be wrong.

The hefty sentencing of the former PM was July 28, 2020, 6:30 PM, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Canlunar, as acting Chart of the Week, is perfect! The daily timing is then adequately hostile.

Beirut explosion

Breaking: Two huge explosions have rocked Lebanon's capital, Beirut.
The Guardian says the explosion (probably the second, largest one) took place at 6.05pm. (Note: Lebanon currently uses Eastern European Summer Time, UTC+3, but Solar Fire doesn't apply DST time changes to Lebanon from this year onwards. Maybe it's just on mine.)
The explosions took place in the Beirut Port Silos (location can be found on Google Maps). The second explosion sent a blast wave carrying debris/dust and formed a red, mushroom-shaped smoke cloud. Firefighters handling the fire from the first explosion went missing. Lebanese officials claim the site is a warehouse of nitrates/combustible chemicals (initial reports from them said that it was a fireworks warehouse), and that the explosion is caused by ammonium nitrate.
The explosion damaged buildings and vehicles as far as 10 kilometres away, shattering windows and tearing open metal casings and gates. Lebanon's health minister announced that more than 25 people were killed and more than 2500 are injured. The explosion is said to be heard up to the cities of Sidon and Tyre, Lebanon and felt throughout Cyprus.

Thanks. There's already a Wikipedia page:

UPDATE 8/5: The explosion registered as a 3.3 quake and, therefore, USGS has pinpoint timing of it: 15:08:18 UT, 33N54'06", 35E31'11". Deaths are now "more than 113," more than 4,000 injured, and hundreds missing.
August 4, 2020. You listed the first explosion as 6:05 PM; the second, stronger (felt hundreds of miles away) explosion was about 6:30 PM. The location was 33N54'03'', 35E31'05''. So far at least 30 are reported dead and 2,700 injured (and large numbers missing).
While strong through te Week, the daily indicators fall short (the Pluto transit that is the only Bridge element being barely in orb and covering the entire year). (The Cansolar looks like a terrorist attack to me, but the reports seem solid that it was not.)

I didn't get this for Beirut's Capsolar (and other ingress charts). I think it's because of the typo in the longitude:

Lebanon's in the Eastern hemisphere of course.

I was going to say the longitude was a typo (it was), but it seems the typo did propagate to all the charts. Oops! I'm going to redo all the above.
NOTE:
This is a rare occasion where lunar phase charts told a better story than the Sidereal ingresses. Almost exactly one day before this explosion, on August 3 at 5:59 PM EET, a Full Moon occurred at 16°44' Capricorn with luminaries closely square Uranus at 15°37' Aries. This is enough for the world at large to expect more Uranian events for two weeks.
For Beirut (specifically, the explosion site), it occurred with Saturn 2°43' above Ascendant opposite Mercury 2°52' below Descendant (0°09' mundane opposition). More widely foreground are the luminaries, Pluto, and Saturn - and, of course, Pluto conjoins the rising Saturn within a comfortably close orb. (Both Castor and Pollux are within a degree of Descendant, in case anyone wants to make something of that.)
