North Carolina earthquake

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 9, 2020, 12:0737 UT, near Sparta, NC at 38N28'33'', 81W05'36''

A 5.1 quake hit North Carolina. It's mostly noticeable because it's the strongest quake in the state in about a century. It appears, though, that there are no casualties and only negligible damage, so it isn't a big event.

Nothing was on the conventional angles seemed to define the moment of the quake, although Saturn and Pluto were aligned due west (respective azimuths 270°41' and 271°43'). Saturn and Pluto also dominate (with excruciatingly close orb) the Capsolar. (I only give the Capsolar and Caplunar +2 because it seems there really isn't any damage - I can't call a chart "excellent" or sublimely accurate when it shows horrific devastation and there really wasn't any harm.) - Similarly, I gave the CanQ +2 because it showed an adrenaline rush but it's biggest message was "no harm."

Baltimore gas explosion

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 10, 2020, soon before 9:54 AM, Baltimore, MD

A natural gas explosion in Baltimore "reduced to rubble" three homes, killed one person and hospitalized six others. Rubble is still being searched for others. (That general part of the world is having a lot of explosive volatility lately.)

Timing is based on a call from the fire department to the gas company at 9:54 AM. The FD was already on the scene.

It's interesting that while the Capsolar is similar along the entire eastern seaboard, for Baltimore the closest aspect is Mercury-Uranus - an aspect specifically present for explosions.

Friday August 14, while traveling to Bedminster NJ, Trump stopped in NYC to see his brother who was dying. He appeared sad on Saturday. Saturday late, he called his brother's hospital room. His brother died late Saturday night.

His bother, Robert, no date or time other than 1948, had been ill for some time, and was hospitalized previous in June.

Hurricane Laura

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 27, 2020, 1:00 AM CDT, Cameron, LA
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Laura

Picking up enormous strength in the last 24-48 hours - moving from a tropical storm to nearly a Category 5 hurricane - reaching a peak intensity of 150 mph winds, the speed when it made U.S. landfall. Storm surge is expected to reach 20 foot heights. It's being called "among the strongest storms to ever hit the United States." (The 1 AM time is from the National Hurricane Center. I see that JSAD has posted 12:48 AM. So far, 1 AM CDT or 6:00 UT are all I've seen.)

So far, there are 27 deaths (mostly in Haiti, but two in the U.S.).

The charts do not show the violence of the storm. Primarily they show rain. This isn't entirely satisfactory. The Quarter chart is fine enough, but otherwise only the Cansolar's daily indicators speak of the violence, and even that is slightly muted.

Tariq Garden building collapse in India

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 25, 2020, about 7:00 PM IST, Mahad, India 18N35'00", 72E52'48"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tariq_Garden_collapse

NOTE 2/1/21: I guess I was a day off - perhaps a time zone error. This is now being reported as August 25, 2020 (at 18.65° N, 72.88° E), not the 24th. Wikipedia now lists the time as "approximately 7:00 pm," which matches other reports of "about sunset." Reports at the time said "about 6:30 PM," but I'm now going with the more congruent time.

A five-story apartment building collapsed. (The top three floors were "completely collapsed" and "collapsed like a house of cards.") Twelve people died. A few people were still missing as excavation continued.

The location is given by all sources as Maharashtra state. One report narrowed that by saying it is in Raigad district, in a city called Mahad, about 100 miles south of Mumbai. UPDATE: I've added geographic coordinates above. These are slightly different than I originally used. I've updated all the details below for the new coordinates and corrected date.

The collapse occurred just before sunset. There are no obvious astrological factors for the collapse itself. These tend to be seasonal in that part of India - many more occurring during the monsoon season. Even though the ingresses and their quotidians are usually quite expressive of specific events, I'm not used to event charts (the exact time) showing anything more than, perhaps half the time. It was, however, the day of the exact Mars-Saturn square (0°03'), though this wasn't in a significant place when the collapse occurred. - The Capsolar is a good setup, the lunar ingress pegs the week very well, but the daily timing sucks (except for the probable rain).

Year: Capsolar {+2}
((This is impressive! Finding only the angular Moon, I thought that it would be complete if an appropriate planet was PVP square it. There was, and it was Neptune: Moon-Neptune aspects are nearly a defining aspect for structural collapses.)

Venus barely foreground
Moon-Mars 0°47'
Moon-Saturn op 1°45'
Moon-Pluto op. 2°01'

Day: Capsolar Quotidian {+1}
(The Uranus is quite good for the timing and, at least somewhat, outweighs the worldwide, non-local Moon-Jupiter progression. This might even deserve +2 because of the heavy rains that [I've now confirmed] cased the collapse.
p Moon-Jupiter sq. 0°23'
p EP conj. t Uranus 1°00'

Day: Cansolar Quotidian & Transits {+1}
(The original workup when I thought the event was one day earlier cited that Mars wasn't quite within orb of the angle and "it would have been better about a day later." It turns out the event really did occur "one day later" and the angular Mars makes all the difference.)
