Magnitude 7.9. An uncertain number of casualties, listed as between 557 and 2,500. Wikipedia calls it "the first major earthquake of the 20th century," which caused severe damage in Calabria, destroying "as many as 25 villages" and 14,000 homes.

The charts are unexciting overall but do tend to identify a vulnerable period. I wonder if the somewhat large area of impact diffuses sharp angularities of the right things? The calculations are for the epicenter, not a specific location where people were affected.
