Piaf's mundoscope is an interesting example of "what happens to you." Both her success and her less pleasant life extremes are shown by mundane aspects that don't show in the horoscope: A partile Moon-Jupiter square plus Pluto opposite Sun-Mercury. I don't really see the circumstances, though, of her early childhood and the troubles that followed her; the best indication is probably Mars closely square Moon (which probably includes the three years of eye problems as a child).
