USA Mundane Forecast
for the four weeks beginning May 16, 2017

LONG-TERM PATTERNS Map 1 Map 2
For the twelve months beginning January 14, the United States Year chart promotes greater optimism. It might be the best, most interesting year we've had in quite a while. Jupiter is most angular (IC, 0°56'). Uranus is on Midheaven (3°01') opposite Jupiter (1°41'). Sun squares MC (1°14') and Jupiter (2°37').

JUPITER OPPOSITE URANUS brings ideological rebellion - both peaceful and violent forms, as diverse as Woodstock and the storming of the Bastille. Expect remapping of the larger social contract, pushing for wider horizons and expanded opportunities. Proponents of liberal social and political agendas raise their voices, demanding civil rights and social justice. At best, it brings collective optimism, inventiveness, new tech vision, and futurism. Political and thought leaders show more insight and resourcefulness in the face of vast complexity.

However, SUN-JUPITER promises plenty of self-serving, elitist "politics as usual" in the mix, motivated by a non-philanthropic tendency of people with money and power wanting more money and power.

With Jupiter most angular, the year is overall optimistic. Expect victories (e.g., military victories and athletic wins), diplomacy and peace, and heightened prosperity, economic expansion, and a spirit of abundance, celebration, and national pride. With Sun angular, the authority of government is a larger, more persistent presence in the typical American's life. As Sun is well aspected, this will be mostly a beneficent presence.

Arisolar (April 14) Map 1 Map 2
A dormant ARISOLAR brings only a Moon-Neptune mundane square (0°27'). Primarily, this filters everything else through a fun-house mirror's distortions. Possible expressions are so diverse they are hard to anticipate. Expect a heightened sense of deception and sleight-of-hand, even scandal. Extreme waves of emotional reaction, hysteria, panic, fervor, and herd-mind arousal are added to every other eventuality, accompanied by confusion, disorientation, uncertainty, and undermined feelings of safety. The world gets less rational and more emotionally reactive for the three months mid-April through mid-July.

BRIDGE

May 16-28 (continuing from last month) is a MARS-PLUTO Zone. The pair is violent, ferocious, often with explosive unleashing of force (e.g., bombs, vehicular collisions and explosions, wars and other aggression, shooting massacres, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and fires that release explosive force). Most acutely, transiting Mars simultaneously opposes Cansolar MC and Cansolar Moon May 21-24. A similar double-transit marked the Chelsea bombing last September and other historic violence such as the murder of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat in 1981.

May 29-30 is a PLUTO Zone which, atypically, may be the safest time of the month - the only two days when Mars or Saturn isn't active in the Bridge. Pluto's usual traits persist as an underlying continuity.

May 31 - June 5 and again June 11-12 is a SATURN-PLUTO Zone, as Saturn begins to conjoin Cansolar Midheaven - a transit that persists until the Cansolar expires in mid-July. This pair brings harsh, dramatic tragedies with profound feelings of irrevocable loss or separation, sometimes with an apocalyptic feel. This will be most acute when it is triggered by other planets, or once Saturn's transit becomes partile next month.

One of those acute times is June 6-10, a MARS-SATURN-PLUTO Zone, which seems the most dangerous, volatile time of the month. The trigger, which affects the whole world, is Mars' opposition to CanQ Moon, a transit that always brings violence, blood, fire, bombs, accidents, and other deadly destruction. We will get off easy if the lunar ingresses (discussed below) tame this to extreme saber rattling and international taunts.

LUNAR INGRESSES

Caplunar (May 16)
The Caplunar describes May 16 to June12, and especially the first two weeks (May 16 to May 28). In the face of the tense, threatening transits to the Cansolar described above, it is something of a relief and of puzzlement; for this is one of the most benefic, protective charts in many months. Venus rises closely, opposite a setting Jupiter.

I admit, I don't know how to weight these antithetic messages. I think that, under a substantially benefic Capsolar and thoroughly benefic Caplunar, there is protection against the worst disasters. On the other hand, it is hard to dismiss concurrent Mars, Saturn, and Pluto transits to solar ingress angles. I think the universe has a surprise in store for us.

Venus-Jupiter foreground aspects are exceedingly rare for tragic events. It may deflect events such as fires, explosions, natural disasters, and attacks from this present month to next month, when Saturn is even closer to Cansolar MC. It may let them happen but with negligible casualties. It may refer to a different set of events. Or it may provide context, as when it has accompanied fires in luxury and recreational settings, brought reverence and devotion in the immediate aftermath of tragedy, or highlighted the elite, aristocratic, and privileged.

Venus-Jupiter angular promises celebration, victories, festivities, love, world-witnessed weddings and births, and general happiness. Events center on celebrities. And, of course, the northeast can expect significant above-average rainfall.

For most of this year, Moon-Uranus aspects occur in every lunar ingress, including this one (a 1°15' square). For nearly any week of 2017, therefore, we can expect sudden, explosive, eruptive events and shifting conditions of many kinds. (This month, that includes flooding; and, in Washington, I think the month will bring greater populist revolt targeting those in power.) Remember a similar Moon-Uranus dominance last year when every week (nearly every day) brought surprises in a continual stream of reinventing expectations. We can expect much the same for the next several months.

Arilunar (May23)
The Arilunar covering May 23 to May 28 is dormant, so the Caplunar persists without dilution. In addition to the close Moon-Uranus conjunction, universal to the world, Washington has a partile mundane Moon-Saturn square. This week has much more tension than last week, especially from competing views of freedom vs. those things that diminish it. Great loss accompanies the continuing shifting of the political landscape. We (and perhaps even those elected to serve us) are forced to confront harsher realities amidst hardship, sacrifice, loss, and sadness.

Canlunar (May 28)
The Canlunar covers May 28 to June 19 (due to the dormancy of the next two ingresses). Of its two primary messengers, the first is Moon-Uranus: the usual close square occurs with Uranus as the most angular planet of the ingress, square Ascendant within 0°49'. The whole universe seems restless, impatient, and unwilling to play be its usual rules. We expect only the unexpected, in the form of sudden, explosive, eruptive events and shifting conditions.

The other pattern also involves Moon, and also is destabilizing, facts that are consistent with periods of instability in the populace and rising up of the masses as an outraged, corrective herd. Specifically, Moon, Mercury, and Pluto are all 4-7° from angles and aspect each other within 1-2°.

This combination is complex, and the high activity of Uranus and Pluto makes circumstances hard to predict, favoring long odds and unlikely circumstances. Moon-Mercury usually boils down to an enormous stream of data unfurling (yet also to particulars, from accelerated market activity to air attacks), with the media being unusually involved. Mercury-Pluto sparks unwilling disclosures, and streams of information that require us to reframe our thinking about things. The whole is strategic, analytical, penetrating, and enormously busy. Moon-Pluto events stun our sensibilities with their uprooting, separating, distinguishing, "no going back" character.

Unrelated to Washington, there is a partile Mars-Saturn opposition, only 0°06' wide, and quite background for our capital. Nonetheless, there are places in the world where it is angular, and where great severity and hardship can be expected this week. These places include part of the western United States (see the next post below, regarding Other Locations), and also eastern Europe (Denmark, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and Turkey - Istanbul is right between them); the heart of the western Middle East, especially Lebanon, Syria, and Israel, with Beirut, Damascus, and Jerusalem heavily afflicted, but also Tehran (by a square); the west coast of Saudi Arabia; the eastern tip of Brazil; and, in Asia, most importantly Tokyo; and, finally, parts of Australia. As I look at the maps, my strongest intuitions single out Tokyo and, secondarily, Tehran (which has some significant victory connected to the aspect).

Liblunar (June 4)
The Liblunar covering June 4-12 is dormant, so the Canlunar persists. Venus and Uranus are conjunct for the whole world, and Moon opposes them both. Expect additional themes around the world of diplomatic efforts and changing relationships between nations. The aspect is most angular: eastern Europe, particularly Czechoslovakia, Slovakia, Hungary, and on south through Greece; parts of Africa including western Egypt and eastern Libya, Sudan, etc.; eastern China and the Philippines; and many more places.

Other locations

Geographic areas cited have about a 150-200 mile leeway for planets to be strongly effective. For these mappings of planetary energies, see the standard interpretations in Chapter 7 of Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link to the free current edition can always be found near the top of the "Many Things" sub-forum.)

Notes below highlight some areas of particular interest. For a full analysis, readers should view the maps and consider all planet lines and intersections against the standard interpretations in SMA
.

Arisolar (April 14) Map 1 Map 2
Arisolars are more distinctive for individual locations than for the national capital, so see the linked maps for areas in the country reflecting specific planetary energies. Some of the most important lines for the Quarter include the SUN-URANUS duo north-south on a line that includes Minneapolis and Des Moines (and, generally, Louisiana to Minnesota), and (in Map 2) a curve much farther west; PLUTO curving from Washington to Arizona; JUPITER-PLUTO due north-south through the center of the Plains states, intersecting Mercury in Nebraska; SATURN exactly through Los Angeles (where a possible writers' strike could savage the local economy for the year) and all points due north; and MARS through Boston and parts of NH & VT.

Caplunar (May 16) Map 1 Map 2
VENUS & JUPITER cut especially through the northeast - New Jersey and New York to New Hampshire. SATURN & NEPTUNE intersect in Canada, then form a widening 'V' mostly along the Mississippi basin but also centered on Milwaukee and Chicago. MARS strikes a line from about Fargo to about Houston. Los Angeles, for a change this year, has SUN. I suspect all of these clusters will, among other possibilities, have distinctive weather impact this month. Notice (Map 2) the MOON-URANUS lines roughly along the Appalachians.

Arilunar (May 23) Map 1 Map 2
Of greatest concern are the MARS & SATURN lines, given their precise opposition. Mars passes right through Los Angeles, then curves through southern Nevada, Utah including Salt Lake City, through to Montana including Billings. Saturn's line runs south of that (see Map 1). Noteworthy intersections of the malefics with Jupiter occur in NW Arizona and near Salt Lake, and with Venus in Wyoming. MARS (Map 2) runs from southern Louisiana, past Memphis, through mid-Illinois and Wisconsin. Saturn slices through Atlanta, then north to pass through Michigan (see the map).

Notice the MOON-URANUS lines in the western Plains states. PLUTO, VENUS & JUPITER sharply angle from eastern Texas and Louisiana, through Memphis (where it intersects with Mercury), north of Indianapolis, then through Michigan. On Map 2, PLUTO passes near Boston and through New Hampshire, while Venus slips through Maine.

Canlunar (May 28) Map 1 Map 2
MARS & SATURN curve from Arizona (Mars right through Phoenix) to North Dakota; but in Phoenix it intersects JUPITER, which goes due north, passing through Salt Lake. VENUS & URANUS share the Plains states. PLUTO & MOON straddle New Orleans before moving across Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio.

NEPTUNE touches San Francisco before moving through Oregon and Idaho. PLUTO touches Albuquerque and all places due north. JUPITER gentle curves through Houston, Little Rock, and Chicago, probably leaving much rain along the way, and VENUS parallels on the western side of the Appalachians. URANUS covers inland from the Eastern Seaboard, with a notable stirring in Charlotte.

Liblunar (June 4) Map 1 Map 2
JUPITER is the only truly interesting factor in Map 1, passing east of NYC and through Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

Map 2 brings a very worrisome SATURN & NEPTUNE intersection near New Orleans. SATURN moves north from there through Jackson, Memphis, and parts of Illinois and Wisconsin. Neptune sweeps from Alabama (right through Birmingham) and Ohio. MARS drops through Michigan, near Indianapolis, south to the Alabama-Georgia border, with a Mars-Neptune intersection in eastern Tennessee. This entire Midwest and southern stretch is blanketed with malefics by this chart.

Trump watch

PROGRESSIONS
Although Pres. Trump has no exact progressed aspects this month, several are ongoing. He's still riding the long wave of progressed Sun conjunct natal Ascendant (expiring in August). Mercury progressions with Mars and Pluto have been persisting, although the Mercury-Pluto conjunction is over by June 2.

Of great concern for him is progressed Saturn conjunct progressed MC, which peaks next January. Surely only the Sun-Ascendant progression is holding this at bay, and it can't do that much longer. The long-term picture for Pres. Trump professionally and politically is dire.

TRANSITS
PLUTO squares natal Jupiter all month. This uplifts and casts down, in both cases performing extremely and against the odds. It has lifted him to a pinnacle, and may continue to hold him there, though his risk is a Nixonesque hard casting down on the rocks if this mingles with other adverse planets.

URANUS squares his Venus all month (exact May 26). At present, there seems no way to know whether this aspect will be primarily personal or political in its outcome, i.e., whether it affects his closest personal relationships or the nation's foreign relations. For most people, this aspect signifies sudden love - renewal and excitement in love and pleasure, flirtations, becoming more fun-loving and experimental, with new "zing" in an old relationship; and/or starting an electrical new one. These carry some emotional tension, and maybe domestic rearrangement. Is it anything more than the First Lady finally moving to Washington?

SATURN aspects his Pluto most of the month (until June 8, exact on May 24). This is hardening, and suggests that one feels the weight of the whole world on one's shoulders - as well he should, of course. This at least contributes distance, less sensitivity, more sense of burden to make hard choices. (To his benefit, he has a source of extra strength as Jupiter begins to transit his Mars May 21.)

And then, beginning June 9, Saturn opposes his Sun again. This (in combination with the approaching Saturn-MC progression and the fading Sun-Asc progression) shows the beginning of his greatest ordeals as president. Most neutrally we can say this transit is difficult but developmental. More on it next month.

Key MARS transits, of briefer duration, help identify key hotpots for his month. They are more acute this month. Allowing a 1° orb, we find:

Mars conj. r Uranus May 17-20
Mars op. r Moon or conj. r Sun May 22-27
Mars ssq. r Pluto May 28-31

Notice that several signals have suggested a crisis point around Memorial Day.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (May 13)
Pluto is 0°23' from Descendant. Thus began a month that will end with decisive finality. Something is ended, a line crossed - there is no looking back. Pluto squares his natal Jupiter (0°49'), and this aspect is the key to exactly what happens. My wishful thinking sides with this marking a decisive fall but, in all honesty, it could reverse to a beyond-all-odds win. As Donald Bradley wrote in 1948,
Donald A. Bradley wrote:Jupiter-Pluto. No flights of the imagination are allowed by this planetary combination, which is the harbinger of the end of the old and beginning of a new cycle in the native's relationship to his career, his financial status, and the outside world. (Cf. the speedy coronation of new kings.) It is the marker of crises which make or break the native's reputation, by forcing grave issues out into the light of day, for all to see and judge.
A fall is more likely when his other transits are considered. Saturn aspects his Pluto, Uranus squares his Venus, his natal Saturn and Neptune are similar distances off Ascendant and IC. It is not a fun time to be Donald Trump.

DEMI-SLR (May 26)
Transits already are signaling unusual demands and stresses building to some sort of crisis in the early days of this Demi-lunar and, among other factors, the middleground Moon is closely conjunct Mars and opposite Saturn. Were this angular, we would expect outright attacks upon him (i.e., more than usual), and he still will likely have major concessions to make. He also is motivated by wanting to get even. The Moon-Mars falls right on his natal Sun.

The one closely angular planet, though, is transiting Sun, which gives him the potential for great strength and command. Events provide him the opportunity to be praised as presidential, if he will rise to the occasion. His Mars is near Midheaven, so his idea of acting presidential will involve aggression and attack.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (June 9)
Just before the end of the Caplunar month, Trump has a new lunar return. Primarily, it gives play (and perhaps "play" is the best word) to the Uranus-Venus transit described above, because its key feature is a Uranus-Venus conjunction on Descendant. I will stand by what I wrote above on that aspect. (His natal Venus is at MC, squared by Uranus, so there are two Venus-Uranus aspects active.)

Despite this possibility for play there are severe luminary aspects lurking in the background. Moon and Saturn are conjunct in the immediate background, with Saturn just entering orb of opposition to his Sun. Though weakly placed, these are exact in the SLR and therefore have voice. It is underscored by natal Saturn closely square SLR Ascendant. This month will offer foreshadowing of what is more likely over the course of the summer. Something is about to happen that has the power to deeply wound him personally.

The new month has begun - the last Sidereal month under President Trump's current Solar Return. (He moves from s Moon conjunct his natal Jupiter 0°12', and natal Pluto and Saturn angular, to Uranus setting square his natal Venus at MC, and a whole slew of interesting transits; but, more on that next month.)

I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but it does seem worth bringing up today the following prudent prediction, following yesterday's events and today's predictable retaliatory explosion of words (not hard to predict itself, with Mars transiting Trump's Uranus):

This continues to unfold in Washington of course - but Trump isn't there. He's spent most of the time in Riyadh and Jerusalem, now flying to Rome, soon to hit Brussels.

In Riyadh, nothing is super-close to the angles. A partile Mercury-Uranus conjunction squares natal Venus (and, more distantly, natal Saturn) in the far-foreground. (His public language was tamer than expected, and he finalized a major deal for Saudi Arabia to buy planes and other equipment from us.) Jerusalem, however, brings the Mercury-Uranus exactly to Westpoint, and his Saturn close to MC. He did not manage to solve all the problems between the Israelis and Palestinians while there (no surprise!).

Rome has nothing super-close, but (all in the 5° range( transiting Saturn and natal Neptune are foreground. It probably won't be all that fun. Brussels, however, is far more acute - this will be where the real story occurs, because Trump's Sun is 0°01' from MC, his Moon on IC, transiting Saturn closely angular and aspecting both (especially Sun). His solar side will be shining dominatingly and there will be massive resistance, blocks, even struggle and hardship consistent with Saturn transits to Sun.
DEMI-SLR (May 26)
Transits already are signaling unusual demands and stresses building to some sort of crisis in the early days of this Demi-lunar and, among other factors, the middleground Moon is closely conjunct Mars and opposite Saturn. I think the Demi sets up in Brussels. (Or will he be gone by then?) If he's there, focus is on Uranus square Ascendant just over 2°, his natal Saturn minutes from Descendant, Pluto rising moderately (4°), and his Mars square MC. This is harsh! Let me make the natal malefics clear:

29°45' Sagittarius SLR Asc
29°50' Gemini r Saturn [sets at 0°11' Cancer]

2°21' Scorpio SLR MC
2°47' Leo r Mars

According to ABC News, which got it's info from the White House, on Thursday, May 25th:
Secretary of Defense James Mattis will join Trump for NATO leaders meeting and dinner before traveling to Sicily, Italy.
The schedule mentions when he's leaving or arriving for most stops, so I'd say he'll be in Taormina, Silicy when the Demi sets up. He's going to a concert at La Scala that evening. So opera is likely.
He'll be giving a speech to US and Allied servicemen before leaving for DC Saturday morning the 28th.

No. Second to last stop.

He leaves Brussels late on the 25th, after the NATO leaders meeting and dinner.

Sicily is his last stop, where he makes a speech at military people before climbing on AF-1 and going back to DC on the 28th.

May 24, 2017, Bozeman MT, just about 6 PM local time.
A reporter approached a candidate to ask how he would vote for the republican health care bill now the CVO numbers for it (how much it would cost and how many people it could cover) were out.
The candidate told the reporter to talk to his press secretary, but the reporter said there wasn't time, at which point the candidate grabbed the reporter by the neck, threw him to the ground, got on top of him and hit him several times according to the Fox news crew who witnessed the incident. The reporter got to his knees, & announced his glasses were broken. Told by the candidate to leave, he said he was calling the police and started asking witnesses their names.
The candidate's press team released an inaccurate account of events according to all witness accounts and an audio tape of the incident, the reporter went to the hospital, and the sheriff charged the candidate with misdemeanor assault (because none of the reporter's bones were broken). All the newspapers in Montana that had endorsed the candidate withdrew their endorsements, but it's likely too late and most of the ballots were mailed in before this incident and the candidate was already expected to win.

OMG... I hadn't connected that news item to the prediction. With sincere sympathy to the reporter, it is also a bit hysterical (if it were a fictional TV show, it would be hysterical).

A good example of how we should predict just the part that we can predict and not try to over-predict... then sit back in amazement!

:) And it just gets worse. Have you read "Trump Watch" in the new forecast for the month that begins Monday? I would not want to be in his shoes, at least between now and mid-July.

Mr. Trump tweeted "this was total and complete vindication" in reference to Comey's testimony.
Oh dear.
However, I don't think there's any indictment in Trump's future based on what I heard yesterday. Maybe in the closed session, but I'm not holding my breath. That was Trump playing mafia don, and I'm a little surprised Comey didn't mention laughing in the car on way out while he typed his memo.

Time for review and assessment, as the new Caplunar is tomorrow. Feedback is welcome on the forecast and the outcome.

I think I mentioned elsewhere, the confusing reverse-message part, especially in the first couple of weeks (Venus-Jupiter Caplunar with negative transits to the solar ingresses) is, I think, Trump's international tour. Besides seeming a mix of a diplomatic mission and "my summer vacation," it kept things calmer her domestically, despite the concurrent problems continuing and new ones caused by the tour.

Today the First Lady moved into the White House.

The first lady, his son Barron, and when they got off the chopper and he tried to hold her hand, she actually moved her tote bag to the other hand so he could instead of slapping his hand away as she did in Israel.

Resurrecting this forecast thread from almost two years ago:

New York Times today reports, from Andrew McCabe's forthcoming book that the FBI's decision to actively investigate Trump, discussions of using the 25th amendment to remove him or of wearing a wire to trap him, and (a few days later) the appointment of Mueller all stemmed from two meetings on May 16, 2017, the very day this month started.

There aren't absolutely square hits on this in the forecast. Nothing was public so there was no mass reaction, but one might take it that this was strong protection emerging for the American people. Trump's chart is more interesting for the time.

Anyway, if you want to reread the above archives, here is some data to compare them against.
