POM Lunar Returns 2021-23

My current SLR set up November 10.

r Venus on N 0º29′
r Jupiter on Asc 0º33′
r Saturn on IC 2º01′
t Neptune on IC 6º36′
t Venus on Asc 7º47′

t Venus-Neptune sq. 1º11′ M
r Jupiter-Saturn sq. 1º28′ M

It's the first time I see a new natal mundane aspect in one of my return charts. (I've only really started paying attention to return charts this year, and TMSA, of course, makes everything easier.) Since the start of the SLR, increasing responsibility (specifically, for people) has emerged as a distinct theme, as has tradition: I've been drawn back toward a religious tradition that deeply influenced me during my teens, and that I had largely left behind outwardly despite its continuing inner importance.

That said, natal Venus has been significantly more apparent than even Jupiter; more so, I think, than the slightly closer orb would justify. I imagine it's because Venus is not being polarized.

This is neat, eh? The ease from the new software - and the cool phenomenon (not directly used by our predecessors, even when they alluded to it in theory) of "discovered" natal aspects that only exist in a given chart.

Don't miss the TMSA 0.4.1 that just posted, btw.

PS - Looks like a very nice SLR.

It's been quite good. This thing joins the party two days from now:

r Moon on Dsc 0º48′
t Mars on IC 1º00′
r Uranus on Dsc 1º15′
r Mercury on Dsc 1º30′
t Pluto on Dsc 3º51′
r Neptune on Dsc 3º59′
t Saturn on Dsc 4º02′

t Moon on Asc 6º36′
t Uranus on MC 8º08′

t Venus on MC 9º47′

t Pluto co. r Neptune 0º08′ M
t Mars sq. r Moon 0º12′ M
t Moon-Saturn op. 0º37′ M
t Venus-Uranus sq. 1º39′ M
t Mars sq. r Uranus 2º15′ M
t Mars sq. r Mercury 2º30′ M
t Mars-Pluto sq. 2º51′ M

(Mundane aspects only!)

I'm more curious than anything.

As expected, this Demi has marked a heavier-feeling period, perhaps compounded by Saturn on my Ascendant and semi-square my Saturn. It's also featured some annoyances, e.g., last weekend there was a tournament of some kind nearby, and the announcer's voice was very loud (I estimate enough to damage the hearing of those actually attending whatever it was); that filled many hours of both days, and when it ended loud (and mostly bad) music started playing nearby. And (unrelated) I underslept for a few consecutive days, which took its toll. Also, someone got visibly quite irritated and frustrated with me (which is an exceedingly rare thing to happen).

I suppose the full SLR, and Jupiter semi-squaring my Venus-Jupiter, made this chart's manifestation less nasty than it could have been.

I had mentioned elsewhere the strong natal Sedna presence in my current Demi-SLR. Couldn't distinguish anything from it. So let's see what transiting Sedna exactly on an angle might bring. (Though it could well pass unnoticed amidst the intensity of everything else.)

t Sedna on EP 0º00′ λ
r Sun on MC 0º16′
t Jupiter on MC 1º46′
r Mars on MC 3º35′
t Mars on Dsc 4º04′

r Pluto on Dsc 6º43′

t Mars-Jupiter sq. 0º14′
t Sedna sq. r Sun 0º16′
t Mars sq. r Mars 0º28′
t Sedna sq. r Mars 1º01′ M
t Mars-Sedna op. 1º29′ M
t Jupiter co. r Sun 1º30′ M
t Mars sq. r Sun 2º09′
t Jupiter-Sedna sq. 2º12′
t Mars co. r Pluto 2º39′ M

t Venus sq. r Eris 0º05′ M
t Mercury-Neptune sq. 0º20′
t Pluto co. r Neptune 0º26′ M
t Uranus co. r Sedna 0º32′ M
t Sun-Neptune sq. 0º36′ M
t Venus-Pluto co. 0º54′ M

(I haven't been looking at partile non-foreground aspects in my SLRs. I don't know if they're worth it for my personal use. Since TMSA just provides everything handily, I might as well look at these for a few months, then decide.)

Strongest factors in order, excising Sedna:

t Mars-Jupiter sq. 0º14′
r Sun on MC 0º16′
t Mars sq. r Mars 0º28′
t Jupiter co. r Sun 1º30′ M
t Jupiter on MC 1º46′

t Mars co. r Pluto 2º39′ M

I may have recognized something, but far less than would be warranted for such a factor. Hindsight might be helpful, if there's anything to it. And the month isn't over, in any case. A thoroughly Mars-Jupiter period thus far.

It set up a few hours ago, and today has been a strangely pleasant day, much more so than the last few days. Things working out, concerns eased. I know it's just the first day, but this felt like a weird change of Lunars.

"Strangely pleasant" is such an interesting phrase for transiting and Jupiter closely angular :)

That Neptune transit to Saturn can't be all a bed of roses, though, so hope it's not too despairing.

Your next Demi looks pretty exciting (in an intellectual way, at least, and perhaps throwing you front and center into the spotlight). So, at it's worst, this isn't a mark of a bad or boring month.

Good opportunity to ask: Am I weighing major vs. minor angle orbs incorrectly by thinking of the Jupiter on Zenith as Class 2 (between 1º and 2º) and the Neptune on MC as Class 1 (under 3º), and therefore the latter being a tad stronger?

Neptune was stronger when I checked in TMSA. We might have to tweak the minor angle quantification a LITTLE eventually, but I thinkit;s pretty close, Just look at the % strength score in TMSA.

You're still at birthplace, right? I get Neptune 99%, Saturn 93%, Jupiter 89%, with 75% being the foreground cut-off.

If people are taught to use a system without understanding (nor even getting an opportunity to see) the underlaying mechanisms at its foundations, we're eventually moving toward a system existing for-its-own-sake, and without it actually serving the development (growth in understanding) of people, which has been its initial purpose of it getting to start being built in the first place.

Training the astrologer's/student's psyche to "just look at the resulting percentage numbers", without an ongoing connection in this to the foundations and continual deepening of understanding of the how of the mechanisms of the system's operation, is disempowering the student's/astrologer's growth, and solely empowering the system's own, for-its-own-sake, "growth" (i.e. its enlargement in rigidity and size).

Jim used to be adamant with saying "not over a degree" orbs for ZN, ND, EP, WP, and the RA contacts; but if you look at orbs he's using in the J.A.E. Lunar Returns thread, you'll get a more practical picture of what his experience has been showing as valuable for observation and consideration, over time.

The best way to get to know with some greater certainty how these actually operate is: make note, and track it in your own experience. With attention given to discerning these particular fine-point factors, over time, you'll get enough practical experiential data from life to know, at least for yourself, what works and how it works.

No, I never said this. (I think never.) I've always used at least 2° (which still is the practical cut-off for things like ingress quotidians) and, since the 1980s, have said EP, WP, Z, N go to 3° (though I'd like to see them within 2°).

I do agree that TMSA should eventually round out a little more information about the angularity. In particular, I'd like one more letter in the % column to specify which angle it's being measured against. But the program already does so much (and isn't even up to version 1.0 yet, as Mike builds the basic foundations) that it's quite hard for me to criticize small things it doesn't have.

I see your point, from one perspective, that "just look up the %" is disempowering - to the extent that, yes, someone should be able to see and know exactly what measurement in what framework is being applied. OTOH, all of that information is actually given (though you need to know a bit more to dig it out (more on that below). - I mostly disagree, though, that's it's disempowering because, for the first time EVER the program allows a beginning student to see all the accurate mundane angularities and, at a glance, know their relative strength.

Now, for Patrick's current SLR, the foreground markers are:

Code: Select all

Pl Longitude Lat Speed RA Decl Azi Alt PVL Ang G
                           Transiting Planets
Ju 12Aq06'34" 00S58 + 0°14' 339°14' 09S47 329°37' +67°04' 257°55' 89% F
Ne 26Aq22'42" 01S07 + 0°02' 352°34' 04S26 4°08' +64°21' 271°59' 99% F
------------------------------------------------------------------------
                            Radical Planets
Sa 29Aq12'27" 02S02 + 0°07' 355°32' 04S09 10°46' +63°43' 275°16' 93% F
The % numbers are the most useful thing here. That 99% on Neptune makes it clearly jump out from the rest. But it only takes a few seconds to see the rest:

t Neptune (99%): PV longitude is 271°59', it's 1°59' off MC.
r Saturn (83%): PVL 275°16' is 5°16' off MC.
t Jupiter (89%): PVL 257°55' is clearly not near meridian or horizon. A glance at the chart shows Jupiter 12°07' Aquarius is square Asc 14°03' Taurus by 1°56'.

If it's EP-a or WP-a, one currently has to look at the RAMC (given in the middle of the chart) and compare it to the planet's RA in the table. This is quick.

But the scored numbers get you what you actually need faster. The rest is fine-tuning.

Here is the only small change I'd wish for this table in TMSA, just a tiny bit more information to make what's really happening clearer by marking the angle. (But I'm patient.) As I mentioned in a TMSA thread, I'd recommend abbreviations M, I, A, D, Z, N, E, W, Ea, Wa.

Code: Select all

Pl Longitude Lat Speed RA Decl Azi Alt PVL Ang G
                           Transiting Planets
Ju 12Aq06'34" 00S58 + 0°14' 339°14' 09S47 329°37' +67°04' 257°55' 89%Z F
Ne 26Aq22'42" 01S07 + 0°02' 352°34' 04S26 4°08' +64°21' 271°59' 99%M F
------------------------------------------------------------------------
                            Radical Planets
Sa 29Aq12'27" 02S02 + 0°07' 355°32' 04S09 10°46' +63°43' 275°16' 93%M F
Taking one place where it's slightly harder to see what angle is involved, we can look at Danica's natal with Neptune on EP-a. Neptune gets a robust 97% angularity score, but in TMSA one has to take a minute to see where it's angular. Glancing at the chart, one sees it on EP-a. How close? Neptune's RA is 269°02', the chart's RAMC (in the center) is 180°06'. (The RA EP would be 270°06', but one doesn't have to calculate this in practice.) So, the orb is 1°04'. With adding the angle addition, her more complex natal angularities are easy to read:

Code: Select all

Pl Longitude Lat Speed RA Decl Azi Alt PVL Ang G
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ju 15Sc24'06" 00N56 - 0°05' 248°24' 21S01 119°51' - 0°00' 0°00' 100%A F

Period marked by intellectual stimulation and demands (written assignments, being solicited for information) which tied into a certain amount of popular attention. I received an extension on an assignment that's much longer than I asked for or need, which freed me up to concentrate more fully on the other assignment I had. Also, a greater personal need for more definitive answers and tying up loose ends.

That exact Mercury-Pluto conjunction atop your natal Moon-Mercury-Uranus conjunction - and then very strong luminary angularity (and a birthday two days in certainly didn't hurt! Neat. Very clear symbolism.

It's a great example of how mundane aspects can "lead" ecliptical transits. You're four years from transiting Pluto conjunct natal Moon and yet the aspects are mundanely quite close. I suspect you're getting foreshadowing (or, rather, an early wave) of what Pluto to your Moon will mean.

I think it has manifested well. The past two weeks, I've been more centered (I don't think it's just the Sun, which isn't that close) and comfortable in my atypicality (which shows even without any Sun-Pluto aspect). Outside pressures and expectations seem more unimportant and unthreatening.

This sets up in a few hours, and I think I'm already feeling it, specifically Neptune.

A lot of Eris involvement, transiting Eris square the Venus-Mars conjunction and conjunct natal Moon, and natal Eris square natal Mercury-Uranus more closely than it already is natally.

I've been meaning to exclude Sedna from my SLR breakdowns, and this seems like a respectable last appearance: non-foreground Sedna exactly square natal Sun.

This may seem like a silly request (and, of course, No is a perfectly fine answer). Even though month in, month out I nearly always get reinforcement that houses don't work (either at all, or in SLRs, or in SLRs in the fashion Fagan and Bradley contemplated in the 1940s). - Nonetheless, I keep watching (to make sure we aren't missing something because, say, we've looked at it the wrong way).

When there is (what should be) a clear house-based statement, I like to watch it. Nearly always that means ruling it out in hindsight.

This SLR has a partile Sun-Neptune conjunction in the 2nd house. In the unlikely chance that houses work in these charts, we would expect some unusual embarrassment in finances or (more broadly) in your way of reaching out into the world to materially compete and take on the world. If you are willing, could you please confirm two weeks from now whether or not this came about? (Or something obviously of the same type and symbolism.)

It's a particularly good test because nothing else in the chart suggests such a thing.

Thanks.

Jupiter conjoining Neptune on my Saturn was already interesting as a regular transit, and I'm not sure what to expect from it, but I'm eager to observe. (And glad it's occurring under a benefic full SLR.)

The angularities are wide but the aspects are very exact - quite interesting.

Best guess of outcome is a bittersweet rescue or reprieve, a sense of relief and suspension of anxiety from a worrisome and possibly humiliating set is circumstances - having the prior worries either dissolved or (maybe more likely) appearing to have been fantasies (in some critical way that matters to the story).

This was my most socially active month in years. The SLR nailed it.

Most of that was during the second half of the month, amid very limited resources which could well have impeded my going out, but I made it work. The Demi also nailed it. (The night before it set up, the amount of money I had ended up being the exact amount I then needed.)

Responsibilities have been piling up a bit, and I'm set to start tackling them all at once this next week. The transiting Saturn, especially square natal Pluto (only mundanely), could be showing that. (I do want to get everything done.) They're mostly academic responsibilities, one of which will involve opening a line of communication with at least one professor and finish making a medium-term decision, so it fits.

It always tickles me to see someone using Mike's software for such things. It seems to me that it makes it easier to get straight to the core of what's going on.

Want to play along with an experiment? I'm trying out cataloging different planet angularity combinations in solunars to see if they can give us a usable quantifiable way of assessing things (at least more or less). For your incoming chart, I get these scores. (Over/under 200 is more/less than average, the numbers are then relative to each other.)

Benefic 107, Malefic 259, Change = 127, Spotlight 128

Some other interesting numbers are Vulnerability-Sensitivity 46 (very low), Shifting Conditions 28 (very low). Nothing else strongly worth mentioning.

For your April 23 SLR:

Benefic 197, Malefic 85, Change = 241, Spotlight 246

Some other scores of interest: Dignity 223 vs. Indignity 128, Vulnerability-Sensitivity 212, Shifting Conditions 244, Sudden Luck 221.
Did I miss a post?

I'd like to play along with the experiment....

My apologies, Patrick :( - Once or twice a year, I make the mistake of hitting the wrong button - as an admin, the Edit button for your post is next to the Reply button. This is a reminder to me to go slower, be more careful, and don't answer when I'm rushed (which, however, is when I answer almost all posts I answer).

Again, my apologies.

No worries!

The scores for the April 23 SLR seem quite apt. For this Demi, very low Vulnerability-Sensitivity and Shifting Conditions scores (and Change lower than average) strike me as consistent with the way I expect things to unfold these next two weeks, just from looking at myself and the circumstances non-astrologically, like I had mentioned above.

I got sick last week. At first I suspected a rhinitis flare-up, then a cold, but my sister had more intense, flu-like symptoms, so I most likely got whatever she did. The worst of it lasted about three to four days. The main thing was that the congestion affected my breathing, which in turn affected everything else. It was bothersome enough to affect productivity (with some other psychological and environmental heaviness tagging along), so my notion of this being a useful, "best-case scenario" kind of malefic fortnight was mostly dispelled.

Grumble :( Sounds like the transiting Saturn square natal Pluto on the angles landed squarely. Your symptoms sound like the most popular virus of the last two and a half years, so I hope you strength comes back quickly.

I just glanced at the new SLR, though, and it looks much the same. Take care not to over-strain yourself (always a Mars-Pluto consideration).

It's mostly back already, but yes, a distinct possibility.

Yes, though I like to see that transiting Saturn is not quite as close to the angle, and natal Sun is much closer than before. Of course, they are moderately conjunct, and their midpoint is on the angle (if that's a thing), so it could turn out nastier than I expect. Natal Pluto is also overwhelmingly close to Ascendant. Besides Lunars, Saturn is taking its time semisquaring my Venus & Jupiter. Not a good time. On the plus side, Jupiter is semisquare solar Saturn and about to go through solar angles.

Here are the themes from my current experimental summary:

Benefic 102, Malefic 264, Change 126, Spotlight 192
Dignity 271 vs. Indignity 188

Everything else is very low except one I'm trying called Commerce, which scores 213.

So, I was (and overall, still am) better, but the night of May 27 I got the most drunk I've ever been, and the resulting hangover and sleepless night seemed to regress my recovery. (I had already been having trouble sleeping enough before.) Took almost two days to feel well enough again, then the nasal congestion returned suddenly and severely, resulting in another bad night, then it mostly passed. My energy is still fluctuating, and my throat has the slightest hint of soreness. I'm reminded of the following remark.
Jim Eshelman wrote: Fri May 20, 2022 4:22 pmTake care not to over-strain yourself (always a Mars-Pluto consideration).
In a way, I think I didn't want to allow myself to be ill for too long, and took the fact that my symptoms were relatively light as indication that I wouldn't be. An unambiguously malefic period, the major exception being that one night (timed by Jupiter exactly on solar WP), which also manifested the "neutral" factors of the chart (Sun, Mercury, Pluto) very well in my behavior and speech. There was also academic communication, including one piece of bad news, as well as finally talking to a professor to lock in that decision I mentioned a month ago.

Your thematic scores, by the way, were very appropriate for this one. (Maybe the very high Dignity score raises an eyebrow, but Indignity isn't low. It feels about right.)

Here's the Demi. Curious to see how it overlaps with the circumstances. I have no clear hypothesis or expectation of how it may manifest.

This does look a lot more fun. The recent Mars-Jupiter conjunction has been attention-grabbing: I see it pop up lots of places and am curious to hear how it works out. (In this case, the Mars aspects your natal Venus-Jupiter.)

Between natal Venus and both Jupiters, the tone of this one seems much more upbeat. Here are the summary scores:

Benefic 330, Malefic 174, Change 129, Spotlight 104
Dignity 213, Indignity 204

I'm working on a transiting Jupiter-Uranus blend called Sudden Luck, which I don't think is actually right. I have to jiggle the equations better. But FWIW it's the next highest category for the Demi. (Since there is really no Uranus, I'd just call it 'luck' this time.)

Some minor categories rise above 200 but not very far - and I'm not sold on them, but it might be worth mentioning. These are Vulnerability-Sensitivity 216, Commerce 216, and Sex 214.

The current proposed language and formula for a computer-summarized solunar would have the following intro sentence: "This is an unusually positive period with many advantages and good feelings."

While it has certainly been better than the fortnight during which only the full SLR had been operative, this description, taken at face value, didn't match the period. The time since around the May 7 Demi has all been much the same: heavy. The slow Saturn transit to natal Venus-Jupiter has been a defining feature. At least, I can now say with assurance that I'm no longer sick. (And neither is my sister.) In fact, that was already the case two days into the Demi.

It feels like enthusiasm is almost within reach again. The "feel" is right for Mars-Jupiter, only more restrained. The small amount of money I had did vanish quickly, though it soon returned.

The defining experience of the fortnight was that I was contacted by a friend who informed me that her (quite long-lasting) relationship had come to an end, which made me feel some type of way for reasons I won't detail at the moment (though the gist of it can be inferred). That might just make the Benefic score over 300 justifiable.
