Ten people died (including the shooter, a 57-year-old male employee). It is important as "the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the San Francisco Bay Area." He left home at 5:39 AM after setting his house on fire (by ammunition 'cooking' on his stove, timed to go off concurrent with his planned shooting). The San Jose fire department got an alarm at 6:33 AM, then at 6:34 AM 911 got a call about shots fired (so I'm using 6:33 as the time the shooting began).

The nine people he shot seemed to be for personal reasons: He knew them all, singled out who he was shooting, and pointedly spared others. He killed himself as police moved in on him. A financial motive is also suspected, based on a recent company policy change that impacted his income.
