Michael Nesmith was born December 30, 1942, 11:59 AM CWT, Houston, TX and died today of heart failure (after years of heart disease) in Carmel Valley, CA. He was one of the two surviving members of The Monkees.

Nesmith was a skilled guitar player and wrote many of the songs on The Monkees TV show. He later had a successful solo career in music, film production, and other artistic expressions. Like many another Sagittarian, he detoured through the Air Force on the way to the rest of his life. A typical double Spoke, he diversified into several fields over the course of his life.

Fun fact: His mother invented Liquid Paper.

His final Lunar Return November 30 looks severe at first glance - Saturn near MC, Mars close to Dsc - but also has Jupiter exactly square Asc. (Mars and Jupiter are both at 99% strength.) Several aspects play (it's worth checking the chart) including Sun-Mercury-Saturn aspecting his Pluto in the foreground. I suggest setting up the chart.

For his final, terminal timing, t Mars squared progressed Moon exactly - probably within a few minutes, depending on what time he died. PSSR Moon opposed SSR Saturn within 0°10'. SSR Saturn and Uranus crossed SQ angles.

Isaac Starkman has rectified this chart (using mainly Topocentric Primary Directions) using 12 events.

He arrives at 11:43:53 CWT.

I've checked the diurnal positions using this time and they are in line with what I normally find when examining events from well-timed births.

For Death of Mother, diurnal Moon conjunct diurnal MC.

For the release of his tremendously successful Elephant Parts, diurnal Moon conjunct diurnal Sun.

For Death of Father, (diurnal) Mars opposite (diurnal) Mercury across the diurnal MC-IC axis.

For PBS Settlement ($46 million), (diurnal) Sun conjunct diurnal 11th (money gained from one's professional activities).

For his Death, (diurnal) Mars conjunct diurnal MC.

Using Isaac's adjusted time gives Mars conjunct Descendant (0° 33') in the most recent Lunar Return.

In the Solar Return, covering the period of his Death, Saturn is directly on the Ascendant (0° 18').

I won't argue that the rectification is correct, but I will say, from checking events (specifically, the deaths of his Mother/Father, the release of Elephant Parts, the $46 million settlement with PBS, and his recent death), Isaac's time gives definitive results more inline with what I have come to expect than using the AA-rated time (ie. whatever happened to get written on the B.C. with no tightly-defined astrological confirmation), which I began checking as soon as Nesmith's death notice hit the inbox.

Jim, on another thread, you had mentioned a connection between diurnal measurements and quotidian charts. Could you flesh that out a bit?

I have always observed the diurnal positions (at events), even when the exact event time is known, and they are often "more involved" in terms of being astrologically obvious, what they are indicating. If I had a question, I imagine it would be why are these diurnal alignments so often to be seen? I understand probability and statistics, and since most often it is conjunctions that we are talking about, they occur way beyond chance.

I don't know what you mean by "diurnal events," so this might not be helpful.

What I wrote previously is that an old, early 20th century technique called the Diurnal Chart is surely the historic route by which Fagan discovered quotidians. The Diurnal Chart is cast every day for the exact time (same UT) one was born - for example, in my case, a chart every day for wherever I'm located but for 4:13 AM CST, the time I was born (= 2:13 PST, for example).

Though coming to the same answer by an entirely different theory, the Diurnal Chart (for the moment it occurs) produces exactly the same result as the Q1 variation of the SNQ. Fagan favored the Q1 most of his life (developing the Bija table as one route to calculate it as his view of how secondary progressions should rightly be calculated). He started moving from this theory late in his life, documenting cases where the Q2 was better, but he definitely favored the Q1 most of his life. (The last edition of the Primer spends many pages making sure one gets the Bija correct, though there are now far easier ways to get the same thing.)

In Nesmith's case, though, it was the quotidian of the SSR, not of the natal, that gave the sharp angular contacts. I don't know what time he died, but, it seems to have been early in the day based on the news cycle. Picking 6 AM (and knowing the angles shift about 1°/day), for Carmel Valley we get:

6°27' Cap - SSR Saturn - RA 303°48'

10°45' Lib - SQ MC
11°47' Ari - SSR Uranus

2°11' Ari - SQ Mars
3°10' Can - SQ Moon

You can't get much better than that Saturn, especially falling on an angle with a still-partile progressed Moon-Mars square.

Because diurnal charts for events line-up often better and more obvious than the actual event time, I knew there had to be something fundamentally important about them. That they are tied to quotidian charts, surprised me, but it makes sense. The question is...why does it seem like the wheel is clicking off a day at a time (diurnal chart is spinning) and the events are waiting for the right click?

(That all of this synchronizes with the secondary progressions, primary directions, solar and lunar returns, and age harmonics seems a mathematical impossibility that is constantly confirmed as inherently definite.)

I decided to blind-test "myself" (meaning relative to diurnal charts) by using something my Wife had just mentioned to me. Apparently, one of her favorite authors, Anne Rice, has just died. Since Isaac already had rectified her chart, I could already start looking at the diurnal chart at a few events, relative to itself and reflected back to the natal.

I think in a side-by-side comparison you will find that the Q2 scores better (by things like angular hits and Moon aspects) than the Q1 about two times out of three or even three times out of four. (The angles are responsive to natal, progressed, and transiting planets.)

Nonetheless, on principle, if you find yourself favoring what seems to be the Diurnal Chart, I think it likely the Diurnal Chart itself isn't of any importance but it is simply masking the deeper secret that it's really a Q1 secondary progression.
