Here is the long awaited version 0.4.8
[now 0.4.9.2], probably the final release in the 0.4 series. There will be no further releases for 0.4, barring bug fixes. All previous versions are withdrawn. Both installer and source code have been virus checked, but it would be prudent to check them yourself.
This is the thread for bug reports, installer problems, and instruction how to use new features.

Mike, the E/W "retrieved location" is still there. Possibly worse than before because every example I try flips a recently used location with West longitude over to East longitude.
The last check I ran: I used my saved work place of 118W24'59 34N03'31", it came up East. I corrected it, then correctly ran a lunar return. I went back in, retrieved the recently used location (which appeared on the Recent screen as West), it came up East. I put in several other West recently used locations, they all flipped to East.
PS - I won't have a lot of time to test tonight (still running in emergency mode for most of the next day), but I'll sneak back to this when I can.
MORE INFO: It seems to be remembering the E/W direction from first used after program launch. I closed the program, relaunched, went into Solunars, picked my home - it came up correctly. Picked Washington, DC, it came up correctly West. Picked Moscow... it came up West!
MORE on MORE: No, it''s not "first use." I exited again, went back in, used Moscow first time - it came up West even though correctly showing as East on the Recent page.

I think the "clean up" of temp stuff after a restart is a lot cleaner. You made some changes in that?

I'll run down the East/West flip and issue a patch by tonight, Thought I had it down. Let me clarify. This happens only when you pick from the recent locations. The longitude renders correctly on the recent location screen but gets flipped when inserted into the calculation form. This appears to occur inconsistently.
Bug fixes are mainly with regard to a couple of fencepost (off by one) errors, which sometimes caused the Moon's true node (last item in the listing of planets) to be missed. This will only be noticed if the true node is turned on. Calculate a couple of natals with the true node enabled and see if it shows up correctly in the aspectarian and the cosmic state section.

A single line of code got omitted:
self.longdir.value = 0 if direc == "E" else 1
I am testing the fix and will rebuild the installer this morning.

Corrected installer for version 0.4.7+, location bug fixed.
The omission of the above line of code meant the longitude direction was not set when loaded from recent locations. So the direction last used in the session (or the default West direction for first use) was marked.

Cleanup temporaries at restart has been the method since temporary charts were introduced, but I did slightly polish the code for doing it.

Links updated. I'll download and install (and will be tied up at least half of today on the rest of the weekend project, then will test more).

Ugh. Bug still there. I'll do more careful checking when I can later today.
The test this time was: First calculation after start was to select my nativity (from Recent charts), click Solunars and check Demi-SLR, click Recent locations, note that my office location had correct W longitude, select it, and have it populate as E.
When I get a chance, I'll do a full uninstall and reinstall.

This is difficult to document because it's inconsistent.
On a new try (no uninstall/reinstall) I launched the program fresh, picked my chart, picked my home - it came up right. Picked my work - it came up right. Picked Moscow - it stayed W even though the Recent page showed E. ("Picked" means selected off the Recent page.) This time, therefore, it sounded like it stuck with the last one used.
Thinking there was something 'magic' about my stored location, I relaunched the program and went straight to work location - it worked - went to Moscow - again, it didn't work. So, at the moment it seems stabilized at "using the last used."

Won't be able to fix till this afternoon. I need to see if the error also occurs in the solunars page and/or the ingresses page. Easy fix most likely, but I'm in church now and need to go to the store after lunch fix should post around 4pm.

Wait! The current front page says 0.4.6!! (I've installed two 0.4.7 versions so far.) I'm going to install the latest 0.4.7+ first and, if necessary, do the full uninstall/reinstall.

No rush. I seem to be running the wrong version (unless you didn't update the front page version number). Off to experiment while I have a pocked of time.

OK - this is probably the definitive test short of a full uninstall. It may have the clue????
I reinstalled from the newest link again. Front page says 0.4.7. Without doing anything (no personalization of any kind), go immediately to Find Chart and pick my natal > Solunars > recent locations > my office (W long) and... it came up East!!!!
But that's not the weirdest: I then closed the program, counted to five, relaunched it and... the front page says 0.4.6!
BTW, I know for sure it's the version I just installed as 0.4.7 because the default colors are used. If it were truly a prior version, I'd have customized the colors etc.
I'm going to do a full uninstall. This may all be my computer (though I can't figure out how that would happen). As I start the uninstall, I see that my computer thinks I have 19 different versions of TMSA installed from 0.2.3 forward, so the "install on top of" might not be working for me.

It should read 0.4.7 I don't usually affix the +, or ++ to the screen, since these a strictly minor bug fixes. I really should call the next fix 0.4.7.2 in fact I will do so and continue the practice going forward.

Procedure: Uninstalled all 19 copies of TMSA. (Did not reboot.) Renamed Documents\tmsa to tmsa OLD. Installed 0.4.7+ from current link.
The new install choked on trying to overwrite the Swiss Ephemeris files. I renamed C:\sweph to
sweph OLD (again, my goal is to get a clean install).
New install launches as 0.4.7. As expected (since I remained the tmsa folder), there are no calculated charts. Exit and relaunch the program, it comes up TMSA 0.4.7 (instead of reverting to .6). Exit program and copy the backed up tmsa\charts folder into the new tmsa\charts folder. Relaunch program, it comes up as 0.4.7, Find lets me load my old charts.
Then the real test: After reloading Marions and my charts, I did a couple of relocations to LA (home) and Moscow. Select one of our charts, Solunars, Recent, pick Home, it works as expected. Selected Moscow, it switches to E. (Yay!) Select LA again... it stays E
Exit program, relaunch. My chart, Solunars, Recent, pick Moscow - switches to E. (Good.) Pick LA from Recent, it stays East
.
Type NY and let it Find it, it switches to W. Pick Moscow from Recent, it stays West.
I think what's happening now is the first Recent works, and after that it sticks with "last used." Find will of course populate from the online db and get it correct, then anything else from Recent keeps the old E/W.
I'm now going to exit the program, copy my old tmsa\options file back, and go forward while awaiting your wisdom.

I have the same issue when I have too many versions of the same software installed. Windows 10 can handle this in theory, but at a certain random number of multiple versions, it goes haywire. Should never happen with two or three versions..

New smile for something discovered in the program and new (small) frown for a bug.
I just discovered the Cosmic State report on a solunar giving both a Transiting Planets section and a Radical Planets section. On first glance, it looks right on target (I'd have to check all the numbers, but I suspect those are exactly right)... except....
The Radical Planets section inherits the sign positions for the Transiting Planets. See sample below of my SSR:

BTW, if I'm reading this correctly, the CS shows all aspects (without regard to Ground) that a transiting planet makes to transiting and radical planets AND that a radical planet makes to transiting and radical planets. Yes? - Oh, or maybe it's showing exactly those aspects that appeared in the aspectarian above (whatever is selected there), yes?

Will fix that sign error and check that the longitude flip is well and truly fixed. I will verify that the CS report is doing what it should: presenting all the aspect and only the aspects that appear in the aspectarian, per planet sorted by orb. So for natals, it is all, for solunars, only with both planets foreground, with ingresses, at least one planet foreground (with the proviso that moon is always foreground for this purpose).
Next version (0.4.7.2) will be up in a couple of hours.

The Solar Return itself (same day) is pronouncedly intellectual - a mental year - mind busy - strong connection to emotional roots. The similarity of the natal and transiting factors is quite remarkable with Moon in the first degree of Aries. (Oh, and

transiting Eris is about a degree from SSR Moon.)

In 0.4.7.2: In Solunars section, I forget to select a chart to run. When I click Calculate, it correctly displays the error message "no solunars selected."
I check a box, click Calculate, study the chart I wanted, close the chart and find that clicking Calculate did not clear the error message.

Easy fix in version 0.5, I need to clear any existing error message first and display a new message if applicable, which will of course be the same message if the same error is made.

..Finally caught it: It's a bug I think Mike's already fixed for the next version of TMSA. It pulled up your town as south latitude and east longitude which, of course, is all wrong.
This should be fixed already in version 0.4.7.2. I'm in the midst of a code review and further testing. If the bug is confirmed, I will issue a version 0.4.7.3 this week, and if so, I will also fix the error message bug upthread. So far I've been unable to find it.

Veronica's natal. Clicked Solunars and intended to use birthplace as location. Didn't realized they had flipped. Possible clue: The chart was an old chart (earlier than when version designation was listed).
I just launched fresh, confirmed the behavior.
I then recalculated the chart (didn't reinput data, found the chart and used Calculate button). Exited and reloaded. It came up fine for Calculate. Then I clicked Solunars and it came up with South and East.

ADDED: Same pattern in Biden's May 14 Demi-SLR where two partile
mundane aspects are captured but not the
ecliptical transiting Mercury (9°09' Tau) conjunct natal Uranus (8°50' Tau).

I will check into that right away and will issue a patch ASAP. Transit-Radical should be listed in any event. IIRC Radical-radical ecliptical aspects were not to be listed(?).

Partile radical-radical are listed if the mundane aspect is closer than the natal mundane or ecliptic aspect.

I have the bug localized. The NPF aspects are being calculated correctly but some aren't printing. Will have a fix tonight.

What's your default for opening zip files?
Now that I'm home... If you don't do anything to alter it, Windows opens zip files natively as Compressed Folders in File Explorer. (They're the same thing.) If you go to Default Applications in Settings and check default by program, under File Explorer you'll find various protocols, one of which should be EXPLORER.ZIPSELECTION.
If not, then you can reset it. Find the zip file. Hold down the Shift key and right-click on the zip file, pick Open With, pick Choose Another App. Check the "always use" box and pick File Explorer or Windows Explorer (whichever way it appears).
Zip files should then open natively in Windows without anything else interfering with them.
Do you have the other instructions about moving it to a location which you have exempted from antivirus or other security filtering?

Here is the latest bug patch release. Certain non-partile foreground aspects were not being found in solunars. I will port the repair to the version 0.5 codebase as well.

Virus checked by Windows Defender before upload and after download. Please check it yourself anyway for maximum safety.

I misread your post before - sorrym Kokab. I thought this was an attempt to install. You apparently have it installed and are trying to run, right?
The program's output is a .txt file. Originally it opened in Notepad for all charts. IIRC, Mike has modified this to detect what you have .txt files open by default.
When you click to open a text file (*.txt), what program opens it?
Strange collation

In the dozen or so examples I've tested, the aspectarian in solunars is again correct (in the sense of having the right aspects). However, there is a strange collation sequence that slipped in with the bug fix.
Historically, the solunars aspectarian (each part) has been in three sections: T-to-T aspects first, then T-to-R, then R-to-R. (It's a good sequence.) These are now jumbled and broken up differently, both in the foreground aspects and in the "Other Partile" set. I noticed it first in Marion's next SSR for Chicago where R-to-R OPA aspects appeared
before T-to-R, but the better example is my current SLR:
Code: Select all
Class 1 Aspects Other Partile Aspects
tSu co tMe 02°52' 84% M tMo co tNe 00°23'100% M
---------------------- tSa sq tUr 00°53' 98% M

rSu sq rUr 02°15' 90% M tUr op rMe 00°26'100%
----------------------
tMe sq rMa 02°35' 87% M
----------------------
rJu co rUr 00°17'100%

tPl sq rSu 02°56' 83% M

Technically this is a bug, except I don't know if it's unexpected or correctible.
Running the chart for Demoblaster, who posted this morning, I got the error below. I discovered pretty quickly that it's because I used the special character in the city name Międzyrzecz, Poland. The long/lat data base pulled it up fine but having it in the location's name caused the program to choke. - When I replaced ę with e, the chart ran without incident.

Python tkinter module just doesn't handle non-ascii characters well. I will leave it stand for now but will work out a fix for version 0.5 and if it isn't too involved, I will back port it to 0.4.7.6.

Python has a module for that: the unidecode module, changes non-ascii characters to the nearest ascii equivalent. Testing now. If it works, it it worthwhile to build a new release of 0.4?

Not in my opinion. Just roll it forward. The work-around was quickly evident and fast.
