Major Move

Hi everyone. I'm Ethan and I am new here after being directed from Bowser's site (Thanks Colleen!). I am a new student in his course, but find there is much to learn here also.

I still remember my mother's red copy of Fagan's The Solunars Handbook on the shelf but I was too young to make sense of it, and it is since lost. Regardless, I inherited a basic use of the Sidereal Zodiac in my personal astrology since the 1980s, but never looked into learning more about it (and boy, there much more to it than I thought!).

At any rate, I wanted to seek input on a planned major relocation: Will it go well, or poorly?

Birth data: October, 4, 1971, 3:45 PM, Ojai, CA (birth certificate)
Present location: Seattle, WA
Planned relocation: September, 26, 2022, Cork, Ireland

I ask mainly because I have yet to settle on a house system that rings true, having used Koch forever and recently tried Equal MC, and not sure if Uranus is transiting my 3rd or 4th House at this point, and well, it seems important to the question. Poking around here there seems many other ways to consider the question. So I look forward to any input.

Thank you!
-Ethan

Ethan, welcome to Solunars! (You're working out of Ken's interpretation workbook? It's a great tool.)

I don't place any credence at all on transits through houses, so I don't think that's a factor. (A transit to a planet in a house maybe... but not simply through a house. Too much "nothing is happening that matches this.") Nonetheless, one would expect that Uranus' transit of your Nadir (lower square to Asc, now behind you) and of your IC would be suggestive of the kind of restlessness and uprooting that would go with this idea. Did the idea of a move perhaps settle in as Uranus was making the square between April '21 and February '22? That would make sense.

By the time of your planned move, Saturn will have cleared your Mars, though it will still cross your EP in January and square your MC a little later - so there may be some tough months, adjusting and accommodating, etc. Jupiter crossing your Moon soon after that (in March) looks like a high spot, a kind of "rescue" and can be a feeling of being "home," and you have a lot of Jupiter transits (to your Virgo planets) November through April so - on first impression - it looks like amidst some difficulties you'll do pretty well and have a great time (Jupiter to Pluto, Mercury, Sun, Uranus as you settle in, and to Venus soon after).

Presuming this is a long-term move, one good signal is that progressed Sun is a degree and a half from Jupiter. In another nine months you'll start feeling a two-year run of that progression, which is quite positive.

If you were in Seattle on your last birthday, the chart shows some wandering in circles, maybe some wanderlust or looking to be enchanted by something or other, and then a lot of working to handle practical business. (If you're relocating internationally, that's probably been necessary so I don't deserve any credit for figuring that out.)

Your new SSR will arrive soon after you arrive and, cast for Cork, it probably isn't very useful - partly because it's got SO MUCH happening and partly because its clearest messages are mostly what we'd expect from your Moon. It has eight transiting planets and six natal planets foreground, seven close Moon aspects and 22 other close foreground conjunctions, oppositions, and squares. That's a lot! Here is a breakdown of those factors from TMSA:

Without trying to be exhaustive...

Natal Venus is the most angular, less than a degree from Asc. It's joined by close and Uranus and Mercury angularities. The whole effect is that you're happy and fascinated.

Mars is the most angular transiting planet, with (again) Mercury close behind.

Moon (ecliptically or mundanely) closely aspects natal Mercury, Mars, and Neptune and natal Moon, Sun, Mercury, and Uranus. I'm not sure how much to emphasize the Mars and Neptune energies - they were your strongest at birth so you're no stranger to them. They might show a bit of trouble, anxiety, maybe getting sick (especially with Moon closely involved), yet the chart also shows you keenly engaged, learning things, exploring, and feeling good - so the balance of all that isn't immediately obvious to me.

I love some of the interesting outer planet things. Though Neptune is most of a sign away from your Moon, they are conjunct mundanely within 1°20'. Uranus opposes your Pluto (major change / shift) and Pluto squares your Venus (leaving friends behind, making new ones, rebooting social context - to which Venus-Uranus combinations are included), etc. - You can see the other aspects in the scrolling green text just above.

So... just based on your main predictive charts, I don't see that time and place as a big problem. Yes, there are difficulties and shortages in the early months, intermingled with other things going really well. The main thing is that I don't see overwhelming or unbearable hardship which (when it comes down to it) is probably what you really want to know.

As for the location itself...

I see you have Venus square MC in your chart relocated to Seattle. Has that been unusually good for you in terms of love and happiness? - Just checking in, it doesn't really matter to the current question.

Cork is closest to a Moon line: Moon is 1°05' from Zenith (upper square to MC). You'll feel things strongly, your empathic and psychic feelers reaching out more. This may give more of a sense of connection yet also of vulnerability in threatening or uncomfortable situations. Everything else about Moon on an angle will apply.

Another thing that changes with location is natal mundane aspects - they are location-distinctive. Since you're studying with Kenneth, I should mention that by "mundane aspects" I don't mean parans but, rather, prime vertical aspects. Natally, you have seven close (within 3°) mundane aspects (either independent of ecliptic aspects, or closer than their ecliptic counterparts). For cork, you have 11, of which the following are unique compared with your birthplace:

Venus-Pluto co 0°27' (compared to your natal conjunction at nearly 4°)
Mercury-Mars sq 0°51'
Sun-Mars sq Ma 1°56' (compared to your natal Sun-Mars ecliptical trine at nearly 5°)

You'll feel these energies much more strongly in Cork and be more likely to experience events consistent with them.

Hi Jim, and thank you for the welcome :)

in regards to the move timeline, I was finishing my last quarter of graduate school in the Spring of 2021, after that it was a rough summer and fall with much wondering "What to do now??", discussions with spouse, realizing I wasn't getting any younger, etc., etc.

I had obtained Irish citizenship in 2017, and I decided it was time to do something with it. We agreed to move. Applied for passport in November 2021, started our formal plan in December, bought tickets in March - so yeah the commitment really solidified at the end of February.
Presuming this is a long-term move, one good signal is that progressed Sun is a degree and a half from Jupiter. In another nine months you'll start feeling a two-year run of that progression, which is quite positive.
It is, and that is great to hear :D
If you were in Seattle on your last birthday, the chart shows some wandering in circles, maybe some wanderlust or looking to be enchanted by something or other, and then a lot of working to handle practical business. (If you're relocating internationally, that's probably been necessary so I don't deserve any credit for figuring that out.)
I would say that matches up with the timeline and experience given above :D

I am definitely familiar with those Mars-Neptune up-down energies (as well as Uranus-sideways and Pluto-transfiguration ones   ). All four have really dominated my life.

I've lived in Seattle since 1991, and been through all kinds of relationships, but have been happily married since 2014. The happiness with Seattle not so much, as I've gradually and completely tired of city-living and ready for literally greener pastures :ugeek:

By way of an update:

The work of sorting/packing is picking up. I'm noting more letting go of things and some resulting relief.

Of note, I am spending a lot of time digitizing old records that my family has carted around for years (letters, legal documents, writings, etc.). I am learning things I never knew about my maternal grandmother, my mother and her sisters, an my star-crossed older sister. Such travails they had, maybe even worthy of a memoir.

My husband and I have been meeting our friends a lot for meals and outings. I think Hubby might be taking their loss harder than me (I inherited them through him - my friends are few and far away).

At present I am more concerned with saving money for the potential hardships. Hubby already lost a potential source of funds when he realized a stimulus loan was not interest free and paid it all back, plus the interest already accrued (usually he's more on top of such things, so this was a difficult realization for him and made him more anxious for about the move).

One challenge I am looking at is that I will be without my iMac for at least a month, and my MacBook Air laptop is from 2011 and may not be up to the challenge of being my sole computer for that long. When I checked to see what it was worth for a trade it, Apple offered $20! A newer MacBook Air M1 (not top of the line), would set me back $1000. ... As I'm typing this out I realize I probably should just tough it out and do my best :?

Had to get a new laptop and was setting it up when I thought I should swing by with an update.

Things have gone fairly well, with some minor glitches, unexpected turns, and disappointing job and housing prospects. We'll be landing with some friends just south of Dublin for an uncertain amount of time. I do not expect that will change the results of the Solar Return as Ireland is a small country. If anything the moon line mentioned might not be so intense.

Still scheduled to fly out on the 9/25. I am really looking forward to getting my life back in order so I can return to studying and practicing sidereal astrology.

Hope everyone is doing well and I hope to catch up soon!

Take care,
-Ethan

Dear Ethan
Saturn is transiting your natal mars and aspecting you moon as well till 17.1.23 and retrograde till 25.10.22 + retrograte jupiter on your natal moon (very good). These phenomenon compelling you to relocate.
Plan relocation after 17.1.23 for betterment. 2023 and 2024 are going to be great years for you irrespective you relocate or not.
Good luck!

Thank you, Vivek.

We are already here, south of Cork for a few days with a friend, while trying to find housing. It has been full of interesting challenges so far, but nothing we could not find ways to resolve.

The housing situation is kind of dire in most of Ireland, so we may be stuck with friends south of Dublin for the winter. I am ok with that, my husband not so much. I have had some job nibbles, and keep at it every day. Regardless, I am still very happy to be here and away from Seattle, which was literally driving me crazy. I certainly look forward to 2023!

It looks like a fine Solar Return with all luminaries foreground and plenty of Uranus. The signals of a new life are abundant. You may be a little quicker of temper and get into a tad of trouble but, hey, you're Irish now :) [My great-great-grandmother's name as Donnell, btw, though she married a Scot.] Common sense things are obvious like significant changes in relationships and abundant curiosity about new things.

Thank you for the adjusted update. Is the quick temper related to rMo sq rMa ? :? and I have been short of patience with my spouse who wants us settled in already, but we are able to discuss and adjust plans. I hope I don't get into too much trouble - we meet with the Garda tomorrow to approve my spouse's stay

The angular Moon's are consistent with much psychic energy being devoted to adapting to a new habitat. In the course of life, this "habitat" or "environment" often is psychological and social as much as anything, though in your case it's literally a new physical, cultural, social, and psychological environment.

And yes, I was looking at the mundane natal aspects you acquire in this SSR that you don't have at birth. (Natal planets, but in a new orientation to each other from the SSR.) You do have a close natal Moon-Mars sextile at birth, but that's been stepped up to a close "natal" Moon-Mars square near angles. The really strong Moon aspect, though, is transiting Moon's partile mundane square to natal Sun, with them being the most closely angular transiting and natal planets, respectively. That would seem to speak well for your marriage.

Good to hear, I've been worried this move would ruin our relationship, but so far so good. We just keep channels of communication open as much as possible. :)

By way of an update... I landed a remote working job at the end of November, traveled to London for training the first week of December, and then immediately got sick with almost pneumonia and definitely bronchitis by the mid-January when I finally got to see a doctor and get taken care of.

We landed our own apartment, built inside a shed, in a rural area just outside of a new town (Gorey, Co. Wexford), where we just celebrated our first 3 months of a 12 month lease. So far so good (though being inside a shed we are very close to the elements, storms are EXTRA stormy), but it is a beautiful place now especially with spring coming, and the landlords are very nice and helpful.

It occurred to us that perhaps Cork is not meant for us, as we keep making plans to go there, for weekends or over night stays, but we always end up canceling.

Edit to add: I also took a tumble from my electric scooter and fractured my left thumb and right kneecap on around 1:15pm IST February 16 - too old for this :?

Glad you're settled, sorry it's stormy, and really sorry to hear about the tumble.

Transiting Uranus wasn't quite as close as I'd think to square your Mars, but maybe we'd find it on an angle of a return chart? - Uranus did sesqui-square your Pluto 0°09', but I think that's more likely the whole "reinventing your life" larger picture.

Ah, Saturn (precisely conjunct Sun to boost the day) squared your MC 0°14' :( . However, Jupiter opposed your Mercury 0°14' (what kind of "luck with scooters" or "good for your hands" did the universe have in mind with that, eh?).

Your January 27 lunar return doesn't pull Uranus-to-Mars to the angle, but it does pull Uranus by itself (and a good share of natal Neptune): Transiting Uranus 2°35' from Dsc in Gorey, Saturn 2°55' from IC, Venus 2°54' the other side of IC (and exactly square Uranus: Were you having lots of fun? <g>), and natal Neptune 0°20' from EP-a.

Anyway, it does sound like the reinvention of life is underway and the two of you are having adventures.

By way of an update... (and thank you so much Jim for all the follow ups, I know life's been something else for you lately) ... We broke our lease at the shed because it was just getting to be too much. The last straw was when the owner decided to buy an old mobile library and refurbish it as a camper van, right downstairs from where I worked from home everyday. It was a terrible amount of noise, I was missing work meetings, making mistakes, and generally about to kill something. Also, I was really not looking forward to another winter of sticks and coal.

So yeah, we started looking around for a new place, at first with one our friends from Avoca, but he wanted to live in or near Dublin and we were like no thanks. As it happened though we found a place in Gorey proper, cheaper, way nicer, walking distance to everything (no more scootering!), and a legal property (turns out the previous landlords, while all very nice at first, were tax dodgers and not abiding the rental laws). So Huzzah, we gladly surrendered our deposit and moved into the new place on September 6th.

Everything was all fine and dandy, well except my husband is still working in Dublin, commuting every day, and getting all the latest head colds seems like every other week, but other than that, it was good!

I took a couple days off last week from work to write, to finish revisions to a novella I'm working on, edit a short horror story, and start drafting on a new novel. That also went great, because I haven't had the beans to even think of being creative. I got a lot done.

But, I logged in Monday morning for work to a meeting invitation first thing, I show up with the rest of my team from Ireland, and within 10 minutes we were informed our team was being let go effective immediately. The contract with the client terminated. The client would meet with us next to discuss severance, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Oof, what a blow. I loved that job, had become besties with my team mates, but we were let go because the agency had been bought out a couple months earlier, were refocusing their work, our contract was out of place, they wanted to raise fees on the client, the client is a start up and couldn't swing it or arrange to hire us all directly (being based in London) - anyways, the long and short of it is, as I sit here, in the early morning of my 52nd birthday I'm really wondering what the next year will have in store for me because... damn.

Just when things get good, some other rug gets pulled out from under me. I feel like Saturn and Uranus are dominating my life right now

I hope everyone else is doing better or well at least :D

Congrats on the new digs and happy birthday! Here's your new SSR for Gorey: It occurs October 5, 6:35:06 UT. No transiting planets are foreground (unless you count Sun; but that's really natal Sun). Moon at 1°49' Gemini gets a lot of action. The year looks exciting.

Oh fun, who doesn't love exciting? Thanks a mil, Jim. I'll dig into my notes to read up on the particulars of the angles. Still living out of boxes and scanned everything. :)
