Why Do I Love Singing?

Post by Venus_Daily »

Since I was a child, I loved singing. I do have some natural talent, but singing has always been something private to make me feel good. My vocal range is considered soprano A3 through G6. Last 2 years, I lost an octave due horrible acid reflux. I'm just curious. What is it in someone's chart that reflects a desire to sing. I know that singing makes everyone feel good, but I enjoy singing every day.

That's a fascinating question! I'm pretty sure nobody has asked me that before. I know quite a lot about what shows musical talent - primarily centered on Sun signs, btw - but I've never thought about what makes people love to sing.

Add to that: You don't have an obviously musical chart. The markers of music itself aren't really there. What you do have in your chart are markers of wanting to be (and tending naturally to be) an entertainer. Your Leo Sun and Sagittarius Moon alone are enough for that.

And you're a soprano. That's probably important because (what I think is) the single most indicative thing in your nativity is your Sagittarian Moon. We know that Moon in Sagittarius just loves going higher and higher, in whatever form that takes.

Might this be part of your love of this? Getting to keep spiraling higher and higher? - In any case, I think it's a matter of motive in the chart, not of talent.

Moon in Sagittarius has other indications along these lines, though I'm only guessing that these might be what singing is to you. Do you love most singing for yourself or for others (or does it matter)? I ask because Sag Moon has naturally dramatic talent and takes naturally to the stage. Your Moon group is naturally entertaining. There is also the wider context of enjoying the landscape of civilization's fruits, which includes the arts.

Leo Sun adds only a little to this, mostly reinforcing part of the entertainment theme. Leo is specifically known not to be strong in music compared to other dramatic arts, but can "own the stage" when required.

As a third factor, your foreground Mars in Scorpio conjunct Uranus (all square Sun) probably has a need for physical expression, Singing is a very physical thing and may be your distinctive form of expressing force.

That's what I've got. Thoughts?

Completely agree, Jim. Mars in Scorpio describes what I'm going through now as I transition into middle age. I'm having a lot of trouble with my singing and speaking voice due to acid reflux. I feel like the moon in Sag is a great description of my vocal range. I was going over a bunch if different sopranos on astro.com, and they have close moon/Jupiter aspects.

Venus, you got me thinking... I may have underestimated Sag Moon and singing - at least for women. No prior study has shown Sag Moon being significant for singers but, after the above interchange, I began to wonder if only looking at female singers (those who could go "higher and higher") might make a difference.

Then yesterday, looking at Judy Garland's chart on the occasion of her 100th birthday, I saw her Sag Moon, too. First thought: Well, she certainly knew how to own a stage (something I know for sure about Sag Moons) and she did always have a glamorous "up and over the top" about her. But... should I look closer?

So, I pulled out my set of about 1,000 celebrity charts, filtered by Sagittarius Moon, and started screening for women only. (There wasn't a single male singer in the group of celebrities, which is pretty astonishing by itself.) There were some definite powerhouses! Not all sopranos by any means, but many of the others still have a noted ability to sore high Here are the women singers with Sag Moon on that list (some lesser great and some greater great):

Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Cher, Nina Simone, Stevie Nicks, Adele, Lily Pons, Cecilia Bartoli, Amy Winehouse, Helen Reddy, LeAnn Rimes, Paula Abdul, Sheena Easton

The one male exception is Lin-Manuel Miranda - who could be there as much as an actor, playwright, and general stage figure as for singer. He's great - but it's also the least of his many skills.

I found this interesting.
