U.S. Solar Returns 2021 & 2022

Post by Jim Eshelman »

As we round the corner of another U.S. birthday, it was natural for me to look back at last year's Sidereal Solar Return for the U.S. chart. I should say that national charts are nowhere as important to me as the Sidereal ingresses converging annually, monthly, and weekly on each part of the world, but they do have a voice of their own. With everything that has happened in the last year, surely the most impactful was the impact of the newly tipped Supreme Court culminating in the revocation of Roe. Surely a valid year-chart would show this?

According to TMSA, the last USA SSR occurred July 8, 2021, 8:02:02 AM EDT, and is cast for Washington, DC. Set up the chart: It couldn't have been clearer of the inhuman assault on women. Here are the foreground planets (all transiting):

16°54' Cap - Saturn - PV 29°30' 6H
17°04' Can - Ascendant
18°40' Can - Venus - PV 0°50' 1H
19°02' Ari - Uranus
21°38' Can - Mars - PV 4°01'

No need comment, right? (You can also add r Mercury 1°08' from EP-a, r Pluto 0°21' from WP, and t Pluto 1°57' from WP-a, all in various degrees of aspect.)

That having been said, turn next to the nation's new return for July 8, 2022, 1:57:55 PM EDT. Transiting Pluto is a degree from IC, with Mars 1°46' from Westpoint, so it is fundamentally a Mars-Pluto year. Furthermore, Mars transits square natal Pluto 1°27', while transiting Pluto is only 0°06' from opposite natal Mercury at Midheaven. As always, there are numerous ways these energies can express (just as the past year's Venus-Saturn + Mars-Uranus could have taken many other forms, despite perfectly fitting what actually happened). I think the least we can say is that this is an explosively volatile chart of conflict and confrontation.

The Pluto opposite Mercury has been ongoing for a while and might be the most interesting feature: One thing it already has meant is accelerated cyber warfare, and "cyber war" is one excellent fit of all the main elements in this chart. In a more general way, Pluto transiting Mercury (in this Mars-Pluto driven chart) speaks of attacks on and by information systems.

When a person receives this Pluto-to-Mercury transit, the most expected result is that something powerful reframes their way of thinking, repatterns their minds, makes a significant shift in the ideas that find habitat in their minds, so we can expect something of the same for the U.S. as a whole. Goodness knows, the soul of the country of crying out for a paradigm-shift: Events in the next 12 months likely will provide a strong incentive for exactly that.
