Utah's deadliest natural disaster, and one of the strangest in various ways, is the 1999 Salt Lake City tornado.

August 11, 1999, 12:41-12:55 PM MDT, an F2 tornado passed through downtown Salt Lake City. The event is Important not only because it was Utah's deadliest natural disaster, but because tornadoes are rare in Utah; and it was "the first major tornado to occur in a major urban area's downtown district and strike [tall] buildings." (It was "during an unusually strong summer monsoon season." Cloud cover in the morning intensified "until nearly all light was obscured." Winds remained calm. Then, at 12:41 PM, hail 1.5" hit nearby areas, "the storm started rotating, and at around 1:00 PM., many people reported seeing the storm rotate... as it moved into downtown Salt Lake City.")

1 death, over 100 injuries, $170M damage. - Overall, I'm not very impressed with this event except for the Week chart, though it does resemble "disasters" where loss of life etc. is very small.

NOTE: A New Moon occurred a few hours earlier, at 5:08:30 AM. For everywhere on earth, it was square a partile (2') Mars-Saturn conjunction. A Mercury-Neptune opposition falls across the horizon. This isn't a bad chart for a "wind makes me crazy, and it's violent" kind of event.
