Arkansas' deadliest and costliest natural disaster ever was the Great Mississippi River Flood of 1927, which one source also calls "the most destructive river flood in the history of the United States." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Mis ... od_of_1927

This flood was so vast, spread across time and space, that it is hard to identify a place and date for the point-event. For location, I'll use Little Rock, the capital. At least one critical event was April 15, 1927, when, after the river already had risen extensively, another 15" of rain fell in New Orleans in 18 hours.

Extreme amount of rain fell through the summer of 1926 (after a time of drought), swelling the Mississippi River by September. Spring 1927 had an early thaw and in Canada, flooding the upper Mississippi. Then the rain began in the south, with April 1927 having record rainfall in Arkansas (e.g., 7" on Little Rock in a few hours).

(Waters subsided by September 1927.) Of the 10 states impacted, Arkansas was hit worst. When it was over, this disaster had killed 246 people, flooded 27,000 square miles, and caused more than $400 million in property damage (this was across 7 states, not just in Arkansas). In Arkansas, 6,600 square miles were flood, about half the counties were underwater (some places as deep as 30 feet), hundreds of thousands of people were displaced, at least $1M in damages occurred.
