Louisiana's worst natural disaster was not Hurricane Katrina, as many would guess, but rather the 1893 Chenière Caminada Hurricane.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1893_Chen ... _hurricane

On the morning of October 2, 1893, it made land near Chenière Caminada, LA with winds peaking at 135 mph, bringing "a strong storm surge that flooded much of southeast Louisiana." Of the 1,500 residents of Chenière Caminada, 779 died during the storm. Altogether, about 2,000 people, and the hurricane caused $5 million in damage ($135 million in 2016 dollars).

As a "working time," I'll use 8:00 AM. Cheniere Caminada (near Grand Isle, LA) is at 29N11, 90W05.

Excellent observation, we are learning.
