After nipping Cuba as a much weaker storm, Ian made landfall about 3:05 PM (NYT) on Cayo Costa, just off Ft. Myers, FL as a storm just shy of Category 5 speeds. It's being described as "one of the most powerful storms to strike the United States in decades." Currently, about a million and a half Floridians are without power. Yesterday, several tornados touched down in Florida as the hurricane approached. Storm surge, that had a previous record in the area of 4 feet, reached 12 feet.

As usual, the event chart was pretty disappointing. The Capsolar, though, narrowly identified the area, the Caplunar provided one necessary piece, the Liblunar for the week nailed it. The daily timing was less dramatic but, simply put, a Mars transit affecting the whole world overlapped a Pluto transit for the location.

UPDATE 1/9/23: The deadliest storm to strike Florida since the 1935 Labor Day hurricane. Current tally is more than 157 dead and $50.2 billion in damages (2022 dollars).
