Yesterday saw three different fatal Amtrak accidents around the country - one each near Philadelphia, in Illinois, and in Bucks Co., PA. This is quite unusual. It isn't likely there are location-specific indicators.

I was wondering if we still had the Mercury-Uranus conjunction going. We do not. (That's the most common aspect for travel disasters.)

So I looked at DC to get an eye on the nation, and found minor but appropriate indicators. The CapQ brought ingress Mercury to an angle - theme of the day - and the CanQ "commented on this" by putting Mars and Neptune on angles.

10AM, as usual, the Supreme Court announced recent decisions. One was the One Person, One Vote case, on which all 8 justices voted down the challenge from that group in Texas that brought the challenge to the voting rights act that gutted it, and is challenging affirmative action in Austin University.

This ruling says voting districts must be calculated on how many people are in each district, not how many registered voters. This is a big deal, favors urban areas over rural, and Democrats over Republicans.

This was, indeed, an important affirmation of the direct reading of the Constitution, which is probably why it was a unanimous, 8-0 decision.

I think it not so typical of the Caplunar, because the Caplunar speaks to uprooting, rebellious things, and this was a strict reading of the Constitution. It comes with an intriguing CapQ: Besides ingress Mercury being still within orb of an angle (for the reading of the decision), Capsolar Moon is exactly on the MC, and Capsolar Sun on Descendant. I'm not sure this would have made it predictable, but it's a striking collaboration of government and the people - which I think is ultimately the core of the question,

Pope Francis issued an apostolic exhortation today, titled Amoris Laetitia ("The Joy of Love"), that broadly calls for nurturing and welcoming, rather than judgment, in dealing with including families back into the Church. It is being interpreted in general as providing a return path for the divorced (who are excluded from Catholic communion at present).

The Vatican CAPSOLAR is going through year-after-year Pluto angularity, which this year is a Uranus-Pluto square on the angles and a foreground Sun-Mercury conjunction. We shouldn't be surprised at ground-breaking, tradition-redefining papal communications anytime this year.

Today's ARILUNAR suggests Venus issues for which there is antagonism and a harsh price to pay, and is certainly lucid on the love vs. judgment struggle. For the Vatican, we find:

For the official enunciation, transiting Mercury squares Capsolar Asc today. It's a perfect "Daddy Gone Radical" moment. And, in a moment of family-minded compassion, CapQ Descendant conjoins Capsolar Moon.

Transiting Neptune continues to conjoin Cansolar Ascendant, and today is about 15' away. If there is angry push-back it will be around the first of the week when Mars squares this Neptune (and, of course, squares Cansolar Ascendant). The CanQ gives the day-timing by putting this same Neptune on the IC for the day, which throws Cansolar Jupiter square Ascendant - by Tuesday,
Ascendant will rotate to Saturn, but by then Jupiter will hit the MC.

Hindu new year festivities at a Puttingal temple in Kollam (Quilon), India turned deadly when misdirected fireworks flew into a large fireworks stockpile and set them all off. Once more, this involved excess and a breach of the law, since the fireworks display was illegal and ill-tended. The ignited fireworks, set off just as Mars (square Neptune) crossed local Midheaven, caused a fire that killed 107 people and injured more than 350 others.

Canada's prime minister just introduced a bill to legalize physician-assisted suicide for patients with severe medical problems. This would apply both to Canadian citizens and Canadian residents (who are entitled to coverage under Canada's social medicine system), and therefore, if passed, is expected to create a new form of tourism to Canada. Notice that the description refers to a serious medical condition, and not necessarily a terminal one.

Interesting!
Even though Uranus (and maybe Pluto?) foreground explains, Chiron (at least in this case) seems to improve the "vocabulary" of explaining this event.
Could Venus signify the patients in torment getting "peace" through death?

The magnitude was small compared to many quakes, but the impact seems strong, based on media reports (the quake was close to the surface). The indications are not particularly strong (a severe Year chart, reasonable narrowing of the timing, mostly a lot of news and popular attention The Cansolar had the one Bridge element, and also carried the significant daily timing).

The magnitude 6.2 quake occurred April 14, 2016, 12:26:36 UT, at 32N50'56", 130E38'06", which is four miles southwest of Ueki, Japan.

So far, reports are that 2 people died, about 800 were injured (50 seriously), and 44,449 people were evacuated. Aftershocks have been extensive, and they are expected to continue for a while, putting buildings and infrastructure at increased risk.

The quake struck as Mars exactly squared the local meridian.

Larger quake 4-16-2017 at 1:25:15 AM on the video feed showing the shaking near Kumamoto, Japan. It was a 7.2. Yesterday's quake, about 8 miles away, was a "foreshock." Aftershocks expected for weeks, 50% chance of one over a 6.0 in the next few days in the same area.

Still on the road for the weekend, just saw a news burst about a very large quake late yesterday in Ecuador.

The magnitude 7.8 quake occurred April 16, 2016, 23:58:37 UT, 0N22'15", 79W56'24". It was offshore a bit, as a "plate slide" occurred Technical reporting emphasizes that this wasn't exactly a point event so much as a slip along a larger stretch. Quakes of this size are fairly common in the area (seven of them over 7.0 since 1900), but this is the worst in decades. Death toll had risen to 272 by Sunday morning, with 2,527 injured.

After three days of heated debates, Brazil's legislature voted tonight, by a large margin, to impeach its president, Dilma Rousseff. The matter now goes to the Senate.

April 19, 2016, during morning rush hour, Kabul, Afghanistan. A "huge explosion struck [from a car bomb]... and a gun battle between security forces and militants apparently followed. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The blast happened in a crowded area, near several government offices and a busy bus stop" (NY Times, 2:43 AM PDT= 2:13 PM in Kabul).

At least 28 killed, 327 wounded.

This is the first big event since the Taliban announced a spring offensive campaign a week ago in which they will "employ all means at our disposal to bog the enemy down in a war of attrition that lowers the morale of the foreign invaders and their internal armed militias" (quoted by CNN).

Until we have a time, I will interpret "rush hour" to mean 8 AM, as a reasonable approximation. The Week chart shines, the Bridge narrows the window within the year, and then the CapQ brought it home.

I think we should stop and pat ourselves on the back for how good we, as a people, have gotten in saving lives. Houston has had 240 BILLION gallons of rain flow through and the death toll has been... 5 people. A hundred years ago, it would have been a hundred times that many (if not more). When I look at the death tolls of today's extreme disasters, I keep noticing how small the loss of life is compared to events from, say, 1940 and earlier.

And consider... Houston had even worse rain devastation than this as recently as 2001.

Houston's Arisolar pegs the disaster potential, with Sun, Uranus, and (especially) Pluto on the angles. This came in only a few days ago.

The CAPSOLAR is utterly deluge-driven, with Jupiter-Neptune opposed along the meridian and Saturn on WP. We see quite similar patterns, for example, in hurricanes and other horrendous floods.

The Canlunar, which came in April 13, just shows the extreme loss. Again, Saturn and Neptune are the main culprits (compare this to the hurricane examples in SMA).

MSNBC just said there've been six deaths, one a man lost when a tug-boat capsized, which may not be directly related to the flooding, and the other five were people found drowned trapped in their vehicles.

We have better communication, not just relying on word of mouth, and we have better weather forecasts, and we have better public education on what to do when you hear there's flooding or a tornado or a blizzard coming.

Note yes close Moon-Sun square in the Canlunar, too. I have lots of examples of this being essentially the same as an angular Sun: chief executive issues on the line.

I was taken with how much Neptune is involved.

As CNN pointed out this morning, Rio de Janeiro is having the hardest dang time catching a break. They have the Olympics coming, they want people to like their city and want to go there, but

1. Zika is Rio's current biggest trend.
2. The Brazilian president is impeached and her 6-0month suspension defending herself will be right during the games.
3. A "seaside back path - the result of an effort to spruce up Rio's image before the Games - has collapsed, killing two people."

The Arisolar has Neptune on MC squared by Mars on WP. Neptune ties into the less-angular Jupiter, so there are elements of tarnished image, frustrated dreams, lost revenue, lost esteem... You'd think they'd at least have a decent week with that Venus-Uranus conjunction on the Liblunar MC but, so far, parties aren't what's happening.

At about 2 PM Eastern time, NY Times broke the news that Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe will issue an executive order "to restore voting rights to more than 200,000 convicted felons, circumventing his Republican-run legislature. The action will overturn a Civil War-era provision in the state’s Constitution aimed, he said, at disenfranchising African-Americans."

Richmond's charts look quite similar to those for DC, so (for example) the Capsolar is Uranus-Pluto dominated and the Caplunar has Pluto partile on Descendant. More immediately, the Liblunar has:

Indeed. My list of Jupiter-Neptune events includes Martin Luther King's murder, but that also means his "I've been to the mountain top" speech the day before, and the large civil rights marches in the immediate aftermath. It also shows for the Selma marches.

The other side of it is that quite a lot of ideology-provoked (and especially religiously-invoked) murders came under it. The two U.S. presidents killed by someojne "God told to do it" occurred under Jupiter-Neptune, as did the murders of Malcolm X and King (and Bobby Kennedy, if that counts) and a series of murders at religious sites.

Chances are good the killings in Ohio of 8 people all from one family in at four different scenes was motivated by some kind of idealogy, if not religion. Although nothing has been said officially, the pastor of a nearby church said the dead were a woman, her children and her grandchildren. Two babies and a toddler were not killed.

Details: killings were during the night of Thursday, April 22, 2016. Several victims were found in their beds. First call came to the sheriff station at 7:53 AM, Friday morning. Three scenes were discovered before 8 AM, while another was found about 1:30 PM in the afternoon. The addresses are mostly on Union Hill Road, Peebles, OH, but the other scene is very close by. Latitude and longitude of first scene sheriff responded to is 39.018912, -83.273811.

Hadn't heard about this at all. Checking for April 22, 2016, 7:53 AM EDT, 39N01 83W16, which at least is the chart for the discovery if not the deed...

The area is more violent for the year than the rest of the country. See the Capsolar. The Arisolar shows them mostly in the spotlight and in the news. The Caplunar shows community-centered tragedy and loss of dear ones with strong emotional impact. The Liblunar is violent and gruesome. The CapQ is more Venus-Pluto and an unusual expression of Venus-Uranus (doubled up). [Maybe this was infidelity related?]

What I don't notice is any presence of Jupiter in any strong place (mentioned because of the original speculation about the cause) - just the CanQ, which we normally would ignore if the CapQ was vivid. - But maybe the Cansolar (which had Saturn exactly rising btw) plays a stronger hand here because it is so involved in the Bridge.

This just looks violent, gruesome, hateful, and loss-filled.

News this morning is that it seems part pf a drugs war. The murdered individuals were growing marijuana at various locations, and the killings are being described as execution style shootings.

Authorities say no sign of forced entry at any of the four sites. Father of one young woman killed says they had pit bulls who would have attacked anybody they didn't know. All sites remain crime scenes for the foreseeable future, and the road there has been closed.

North Korea has been launching as lot of test missiles lately. They aren't doing particularly well but, as various observers have pointed out, they keep learning things and getting a little bit better.

Do charts for this year (and this month) show this escalation?

The CAPSOLAR certainly does. Mars rises < 3° to show a definite increase in militarization. The only real indication of the year is a mundane Moon-Pluto square (2°00') that most of the rest of the world doesn't have.

The ARISOLAR and CAPLUNAR both have Mercury angular, which seems quite appropriate for technology, flight, and militarization. As I said, they keep learning stuff! The Caplunar has a Mercury-Uranus conjunction on IC.

Bagdad is under attack by al-Sadr's forces. The green zone has been attacked, but al-Sadr has said not to attack civilians or embassies. The US hasn't closed it's embassy.
When he went into exile in Iran, he said he'd be back if there was no strong government in Iraq. There is no strong government in Iraq.

I don't see anything in the Cap or Can-solars, but the Arisolar has Mars square Neptune 7° in mundo with Mars 38° off the IC and Neptune 45° off the DSC.

You're right that the Capsolar had nothing to say, but the Cansolar was the real pivot chart (innately and for timing) of the event. It has Uranus and Mercury closely angular, Mars and Pluto more widely angular, and Mars-Uranus, Mars-Pluto, and Mercury-Uranus aspects. It's representative of the quite explosive year in question.

The Cansolar also narrowed the timing of a likely event to within a one-month time. Uranus and Pluto both transited Cansolar angles as of April 13 (continuing to the end of the Cansolar year mid-July). For a populist, people's rights movement, the ongoing Moon-Jupiter progression in the Cansolar is quite on target, and it moves out of orb May 13. This gives us a window of April 13 to May 13 for a radical, "tear down the system" explosive event that is civil rights event, for example.

Then, as you said, the Arisolar is quite the chart, with Mars and Neptune partile conjunct angles and a 0°07' Mars-Neptune mundane square. Add some supportive Jupiter and Saturn for various political, economic, and good-stuff vs. bad-stuff themes.

Then the month opened an equally unhappy theme. Neptune is 0°05' from EP, Saturn is < 2° from MC, and the Saturn-Neptune square dominates the chart. Jupiter is just over 1° from square MC, so it was political, economic, nobody died or even really got hurt, and all sorts of other themes, reinforced by the close Jupiter-Neptune mundane opposition (inspirational religions leader's speech), among other details.

Then, having narrowed it to the week, we bring it to the day with transiting Mars on a CapQ angle. (It even squares Capsolar Neptune within a few minutes.) With everything else going on in the Cansolar, it even offers up Mercury, Mars, and Pluto to the CanQ horizon.

So, in a tough year, under a quarter when people reached volatile emotional extremes, the Bridge gave us a "tear down the system and look out for the people theme." The month and week were shown by a "we're really upset and life is ugly" mood, and then, with all this psychological gasoline in the tub, the daily angles of two systems threw matches into it simultaneously.

I wonder what the tag line of this event is going to become? It's hardly "fall of the Iraqi government" (as a military friend quipped, that happened in 2003). Maybe "Occupy: Green Zone"?

The historic Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava burned to substantial destruction in Manhattan May 1, with the fire department being notified shortly before 7:00 PM. First impression is that it is not arson.

Manhattan's CAPSOLAR has mars 1°41' above Dsc, among other, wider factors. The Caplunar is dormant, but the LIBLUNAR has Sun (a primary planet for fires) square MC.

The CapQ has transiting Sun on MC, but this has likely persisted for days to weeks (I haven't calculated it yet). Transiting Mars is just a bit too far from Cansolar Asc. The daily indicators (which usually shine for fires) are disappointing.
