Tens of thousands of people gathered Sunday in Kiev to focus the national protest against their government's backing away from a broad treaty with the EU, one the people see could improve living conditions, give increasing leverage to finish their post-USSR functional separation from Russia.

Kiev has the Sun angular in the Capsolar this year - government stronghold on the people. The Cansolar then had the close Mars-Jupiter conjunction straddling the Midheaven. The Libsolar blends these, having the Sun conjunct the Eastpoint with Jupiter near the MC; but the Libsolar takes it further, with Moon closely setting (populist wave), and the culminating Jupiter in mundane square to Moon and Uranus. This resembles some of the civil rights marches and outbreaks of the 1960s in the U.S.

The current activity is under a Canlunar with the Moon precisely on the IC. This is what I've seen over and over during Arab spring and other restabilization: When the people take to the streets en masse, generally the Moon is forefront. When there is restriction and hardship by rigid government, Sun and Saturn are prominent, and, indeed, Sun and Saturn are each about 2° from the Descendant (either side), their midpoint being within 1° of the angle. Mercury joins Saturn. Mercury and Saturn mundanely square the Moon closely.

CNN reported at 1:53 AM PDT that, "Thirty-five separatists were killed and about 60 injured in Monday's fighting at Donetsk airport in eastern Ukraine..." It's a battle over the airport. There may have been Ukrainian National Guard casualties also, but these haven't been released.

The first thing I wanted to check was the new Arilunar from Sunday. Sure enough, we get:
Mars rises (2°21')
Uranus sq. MC (0°48')
Pluto sq. Asc (1°41')
Mars-Pluto square (0°39' in mundo)
Mars/Uranus midpoint on horizon 0°22'
Uranus-Pluto square (2°02')
Moon-Venus conjunction (0°54')
(Jupiter more widely foreground: 5°+)

Violent rebellion: There isn't much that would have made it clearer or more apt except, perhaps, if the Moon-Venus partile conjunction didn't exist (something with effect in the whole world which does, of course, include Ukraine).

Background
Donetsk is 48N00, 37E48. Kiev is 50N28, 30E31. There are several degrees of longitude separating them, so there will be some significant differences in the charts. I'll review this for Donetsk first.

The Capsolar draped Moon-Jupiter-Pluto (with a strong dash of Uranus) across the angles - much the same pattern as in DC. The Cansolar from last summer had much the same flavor, but more in terms of ideas: a Mercury-Uranus-Pluto T-square on the angles.

The May 19 Caplunar is harsh: Saturn is <2° from setting. Moon and Sun are more widely foreground (5° and 3° respectively), showing the central government vs. popular voice in competition with the governmental voice currently strongest.

Monday, the Donestk CapQ Ascendant was 21° Gemini, slicing through the mix of Jupiters and Plutos and Moons and Venuses and Mars - all of which had voice, with a Moon-Venus-Mars T-square having sway for the moment. Mars had recently crossed the Donetsk Cansolar Ascendant by transit, will <2°, and exactly square Cansolar Pluto.

The Kiev Capsolar is similar, but not so concentrated to the angles - central government doesn't show this particular scenario as intensely as the Donetsk area where the action is presently happening. But the Arisolar is the really harsh chart for Kiev - the one that had me predict regime change in this particular quarter - with Saturn at the MC and, more widely, Jupiter opposite a stationary Pluto across the horizon.

The Caplunar, very harsh for Donetsk, is dormant for Kiev, a balancing act of a Venus-Jupiter square on one side with Saturn on the other, and neither one making it right up to the angles. But the new Arilunar, which has Mars rising in Donestk, has the same Mars 0°18' from EP for Kiev. Uranus and Pluto are more widely foreground (6°-8° out), and in 1°45' mundane square - so the whole thing came together under this Arilunar.

The Kiev CapQ Ascendant mid-Monday was 17° Gemini, so the emphasis is on ingress and transiting Plutos. (In SMA I observed that frequently events away from the capital will force the central government to take notice when Pluto slams hard on the capital itself.)
