Kanungu Church mass suicide

The Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God was, according to Wikipedia, "a breakaway religious movement from the Roman Catholic Church founded... in Uganda... in the late 1980s" after its founders "claimed that they had visions of the Virgin Mary."

"In early 2000, followers of the religious movement perished in a devastating fire and a series of poisonings and killings that were either a group suicide or an orchestrated mass murder by group leaders after their predictions of the apocalypse failed to come about."

You can read about the story, which centered around an equation of the year 2000 as the End of Days. As New Years Day approached, the Movement members prepared in various ways - some spiritual, some psychological, some practical - for the end of the world. January 1, 2000 passed with incident, however.

A new predicted date was given as March 17, 2000. They threw a huge party with much food and festivities. They then entered their church together (time not discovered yet) - the windows and doors had been boarded up - and, a few minutes later, others in the village heard an explosion, "and the building was gutted in an intense fire that killed all 530 in attendance, including dozens of children." Simultaneous suicides of other Movement members occurred all over Uganda.

The only time I have for this is a news account two days after saying the fire occurred "on Friday morning." They had already feasted for hours, and then entered the church. I will use March 17, 2000, 11:00 AM BAT, Kanunga, Uganda, 0S54 29E47.
