First Interstate Tower Fire

The First Interstate Tower Fire in Los Angeles on May 4, 1988 has been getting some "revival press" lately because of changes in fire safety rules that were never used except for this one time. (People were evacuated from a helipad atop the building by LAPD choppers that were in the air nearby.) Perhaps the fire is worth a look?

The fire began within a few minutes of 10:30 PM and was contained by 2:19 AM.

Forty people were injured and one person killed as five floors were destroyed. Damages were $50 million in 1988 (just over $100 million in 2014 dollars).The buildings sprinkler system had not been installed fully.
