The Buttonwood Agreement
Posted: Sun Jun 30, 2024 9:32 am
One of the most important founding U.S. financial documents was the Buttonwood Agreement, which is generally regarded as the founding document of the New York Stock Exchange. It was signed May 17, 1792 by 24 brokers who commonly met under a buttonwood (sycamore) tree in front of 68 Wall Street. That tree (which continued to stand until the 1860s) was at 40N42'21'' 74W00'31'. There is significant doubt as to whether the signing occurred under the tree - 24 participants were too many to fit under it - and likely was at a nearby hotel where they had convened in secret. (All locations in the neighborhood are the same minute of longitude and latitude, so I might as well use the exact coordinates of the tree.)
The immediate motivation for the agreement was the recently resolved Panic of 1792, which is a separate story, except that solar ingresses for the founding also would have covered the March-to-April panic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_of_1792
Some astrologers claim the signing of the agreement occurred at 7:52 AM (which was mid-morning with the sun already high in the sky). Whether this is so doesn't matter to the current study, which is to see if the event shows as a mundane event for the region. I'll use this as a working time. (7:52 AM LMT, if the actual time, would have been expressed in 1792 as 7:56 AM LAT. The time, if actually from a record, might have been stated as the even hour 8 AM LAT, or "just before 8," or some such thing; but I can find no actual record or report.)

(Wow! Look at those angularities! And what could have been better for meeting and signing an agreement to organize the commoditization of speculation?! - Add Eris 1°09' from ICV with Sun, Mercury, and Neptune aspecting Eris.)

(Entirely inappropriate symbolism. It would have fit the panic that had just ended, but not this event at all. Many of these indicators were in fact part of the March-April panic, but not the Saturn transit that began as the panic was brought under control.)
