Shannen Doherty

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Born: April 12, 1971, 4:15 PM CST, Memphis, TN
Died: July 13, 2024, location still unknown

I list this here because we don't have enough clues on cancer. Doherty, who died yesterday at age 53, died of breast cancer which first appeared in 2015; went into remission in 2017; had returned, spread, and become stage 4 by 2020; and by June 2023 had spread to her brain.

I see no obvious cancer indications in her natal chart unless one thinks Pluto almost exactly on Ascendant relates to that. (So far, I don't.) The ONLY clear indication I find is in the secondary progressions, and then ONLY if I include the primary angles (using the traditional Naibod/RA rate, not the SA/long rate I'd come to favor).

In that case, the death by breast cancer that had spread to her brain is completely shown, with great precision:

20°05' Can - p MC
20°18' Cap - p Mars
21°19' Lib - r Moon

Mars in Capricorn (breasts) 1' from the usual partile orb of square natal Moon in Libra (the head, specifically including the brain), came right to an angle.

She also has progressed Venus conjunct natal Saturn in Aries 0°14'. This doesn't seem an exact match but probably played a role.

The last few years - ro0ughly since the cancer has been stage 4 - have seen Neptune move across her Descendant, though by now it's wider than we'd expect (but hadn't left the neighborhood for its final time). It had also been opposing natal Pluto, surely stirring existential reflections and associated emotions. But the transits didn't really have much to say for the death itself.

I'm awaiting news on where she was when she died.

Just found out Shannen died in Malibu. Nothng too angular, but what stands out most is she has a cadent almost partile moon=Mars/Saturn square in cadency, which is a terrible predictor of health. This also suggests her mental and emotional outlook on life. Several reports state she was not ready to go down, she was not ready to leave, and it looks like she put up an amazing fight.

Thanks for the information.

Her final solar return - presuming Malibu also - is quite typical for late-stage cancer: Transiting Neptune was within a degree of Ascendant. I've seen this over and over - I think it doesn't show the disease but the late-stage process filled with chemo, increasingly foggy brain and weakness, psychological states consistent with Neptune, increasing dependency, etc. The SSR Moon aspected Mars and Saturn closely, with Mars square Saturn 0°15' M, foreground. It's a severe SSR. (Other things I didn't mention.)

Her July 1 Demi-SLR was similarly hurtful: Transiting Mars 0°27' from MC, natal Saturn 0°12' from Zenith, and a 0°03' Mars opposite natal Moon (foreground).
