On June 15, 1904, the passenger steamboat (PS) General Slocum caught fire in the East River adjacent to Manhattan, resulting in 1,021 deaths (out of 1,342 people on board). This was the highest death toll from a NYC fire until 9/11.
The ship departed dock at 9:30 AM. Soon after, the fire broke out. The location (for those who want to narrow it further) would be East River at 90th Street.
The fire was first noticed at 10:00 AM. Safety equipment was aged, failing, and useless. The ship eventually sank just off North Brother Island (near Bronx). I'm using June 15, 1904, 10:00 AM, New York, NY.
The charts are not particularly good, other than one really crazy lunar ingress; and there is a strong ribbon of Venus through the whole - probably because it was a pleasure cruise. There's plenty of strong Mercury for transportation matters. Uranus seems to be the driving "crisis" planet, and there isn't especially any indicator of fire.
