115 people died in a stampede at the Shiloh Baptist Church September 19, 1902, at 9:00 AM, in Birmingham, AL. This, the largest black church in Birmingham, was filled with about 3,000 people to hear Booker t. Washington.

A misunderstanding led to the crowd thinking someone yelled out "Fire," and rushed, panicked, for the door. It had all the features of terrified mass panic. Most deaths were from suffocation, as people tiled several deep on top of each other to get out.

115 people died in all this.
