PEPCON disaster

May 4, 1988, 11:54 AM, 36N02'15'' 115W02'05'', near Henderson, NV
A fire triggered explosions at a PEPCON plant (Pacific Engineering & Production Company of Nevada), which made components of rocket fuel for the space shuttle. Two people died, 372 were injured, and damages were about $100 million. Effects of the explosion impacted a 10-mile radius that included the Las Vegas airport.
The fire started between 11:30 and 11:40 AM. Flames spread to where the fuel components were stored. This detonated at 11:51 AM, damaging surrounding buildings. This fed further burning, and additional small explosions, followed by a "massive explosion" at 11:54 AM. Eventually, seven distinct explosions occurred, the two largest of which measured 3.0 and 3.5 on the Richter scale.
The first large explosion occurred as a Jupiter-Pluto opposition squared Ascendant. Mars, at that point, was 6° above Descendant and getting closer. Some of the indications below, especially Neptune's action, is more consistent with the initial fire than with an explosion.
