Tom Hayden

Tom Hayden died yesterday. While he was in no sense the sole founder of the college protest movement of the 1960s, he was as close to it as anyone else: He was there at the beginning, before the SDS existed, and was primary author of the manifestoes calling for educated youth to raise their voices and reclaim the world. He was there for the follow through, step by step. And he was there for the aftermath and continuity as the only member of the original Chicago 7 (down from 8 after Bobby Seale got a separate trial) to go on to a political role and a complete lifetime of activism.

He was a Scorpio through and through - a fighter first and foremost, demanding radical change as a foundation for social justice and reform. (I met him once, early in this century. We talked alone briefly, no more than 5-10 minutes.)

He was born December 11, 1939 in Detroit, MI. He told astrologer Ed Steinbrecher that he was born at either 2 AM or 2 PM, he didn't remember which; and the 2 PM chart gives his Moon at 5°38' Sagittarius, exactly conjunct Sun of his former wife, Jane Fonda (5°26' Sag). The 2 AM Chart also, without credibility, has only an angular Venus. Astrologers have preferred the 2 PM time over the years, as do I.

Sun is in Scorpio. Moon in Sagittarius is exactly square a dignified Jupiter. He does keep a foreground Venus, now at Midheaven, but also gains a rising Saturn for the hardship, and his Jupiter-Neptune opposition becomes foreground for his almost uninterrupted idealism (which, of course, the Sag Moon shares).

I recommend this article for a decent history of his life.
