USA Mundane Forecast
for the four weeks beginning MAY 23, 2019

If you are unfamiliar with the methods and interpretations of Sidereal mundane astrology, please see my free book Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link to the current edition can be found near the top of the Publications sub-forum.) For standard interpretations, see Chapter 8 of the current (16th) Edition.

LONG-TERM (Solar Ingress) PATTERNS
For the United States, the 12 months beginning January 15, 2019 are dominated by Uranus on IC square Sun on Eastpoint. Sun-Uranus signals startling events, which, historically, have included surprise attacks, sudden changes in leadership, and technology breakthroughs.URANUS is most angular (2°36' from IC), predicting explosions (literal or metaphorical), sudden rupture or eruption, shock, surprise, overflowing normal bounds, and disclosures and revelations. Uranian events often have profound social impact to the point of defining the character of an era. SUN (EP 1°53') concentrates attention on the government, especially the head of state, with increased government intervention or heightened perception of government’s presence in people’s lives. Sun's aspects to Uranus and Pluto infer rebellion against present leadership and rejection of prevailing political views. Sun-Pluto brings disrespect for the law or those forces that create it and enforce it, which sometimes means removing those in power.

MERCURY CONJOINS SATURN (2°46') in the foreground. Expect restrictions, delays, failures, or calamity relating to transportation and communication. Information flow is interrupted and rationed. Data integrity is doubted: cybersecurity remains a higher priority than cyber-expansion. Economic narrowing and backtracking on economic recovery interrupt commerce: more newspapers go out of business and more retail businesses close their doors. (In hindsight, it now seems this aspect is related to the tariff-heightening and restrictions on commerce of the year so far.)

Reinforcing the message of economic crisis, a MARS-JUPITER square (2°07') exists only mundanely, i.e., is geographically distinctive to Washington. This crisis could be as slight as a few more government shutdowns or as ravaging as a market crash, but probably will be something between. Resources are squandered and stretched past their capacity. Belief-driven aggression accelerates. Bigots have louder voices. In nature, as in human affairs, expect stormy weather.

MERCURY CONJUNCT PLUTO anticipates major collisions of information, communication, and ideas. This suggests opposing factions in Congress will again engage passionately, unlike the tepid, rigid polarization of recent years. Investigations drill deeply into untapped data to disclose information that changes the prevailing paradigm, reframing how people think. Also, expect cyber attacks, including remote undermining of critical communication and cyber-control networks.

With Saturn in Sagittarius all year, immigration, aviation, elitism, hierarchical economic separation, and nationalism (anti-internationalism) dominate the public discussion.

Arisolar (Apr 15)
Due to a dormant Cansolar in July, the Arisolar remains the Quarter chart for six months, from mid-April until mid-October. It shows great severity. Saturn rises within 0°02' in Washington. Pluto is 2°34' below Ascendant, with Saturn conjunct Pluto. Together, Saturn and Pluto PVP square Moon, with Moon-Saturn partile.

With SATURN RISING so closely, expect loss and deprivation, whether of property or human life. The stock market will falter and the economy narrow. Banks are imperiled. Damage from natural disasters increases. Foremost with this Moon-Saturn-Pluto trio, human cruelty rises, hearts harden, and sadness spreads like a dark cloud. Saturn-Pluto brings dramatic hardships with a sense of irrevocable loss or separation. Moon-Saturn means sacrifice, loss, and sadness. Moon-Pluto emphasizes separation, alienation, and departures. The emotional impact of genocide matches these aspects, though of course other physical outcomes are possible, e.g., the raging of savage abortion conflicts.

MEDIUM-TERM PATTERNS (The Bridge)
  • Pluto marks the entire month.
  • For much of it, Mars partners with Pluto. During these MARS-PLUTO zones, expect violent, ferocious, unleashing of powerful force and conflict. Other primary themes are (1) a broad disrespect of law and (2) various consequences of cumulative stress. The impact on Washington (especially of the third period) will be enormous. Specifically:
  • Transiting Mars crosses Capsolar Descendant through May 25 then squares CanQ Moon May 28 to June 1.
  • The most severe, extreme period will be with Mars opposite Pluto across the Capsolar EP axis June 18 until the end of the period, peaking June 21.
SHORT-TERM (Lunar Ingress) PATTERNS

Caplunar (May 23)
The Caplunar covers May 23 to June 19, especially the first week, May 23-30. As with the Arisolar (and last month's Canlunar), Saturn and Pluto are conjoined on an angle, Pluto squaring Ascendant 1°17' on one side and Saturn 1°35' on the other; that is, their midpoint is 0°09' from the Zenith.

Therefore, this will be a tough, brutal month. Like the Arisolar, this chart anticipates dramatic hardship with an apocalyptic sense of irreversible loss. Moon square Pluto adds intensity and confrontation. Angular Saturn, in particular, concentrates attention on loss and deprivation, whether of property, dignity, or human life. Especially with the partile (mundane) Moon-Sun square, expect the stock market to fumble, the economy to narrow, and banks to be challenged.

Much of this will come to fruition in the fourth week of the month, under the Liblunar.

Tornadoes, late in their season, still plague the Plains states with Jupiter-Neptune sharing angles. Mars on IC through middle Michigan, just west of the Indiana-Ohio border, and on south, shows hot spots for violence and fires.

Venus crosses a CapQ angle 5/28, which is the only crossing of the week. People will tend to be happy that day: the market goes up, love owns the airwaves, or there is other unusually happy news.

Arilunar (May 30)
The Arilunar covers May 30 to June 6. Mars holds the exact degree of Midheaven. Moon square Pluto is partile in mundo. Both of these aspects hit hard: for example angular Mars plus Moon-Pluto aspects are the two strongest indicators of volcanic eruptions and share many hard-hitting categories of events such as mine disasters, hurricanes, bombs, vehicular disasters, leader deaths and crises, war, and popular uprising. These events give a feel of the type of psychological state the nation will adopt this week.

Unquestionably there is conflict (or, more likely, open warfare) in the nation's capital or, perhaps, between this nation and another. Mars is foreground for a range of hurtful events. High profile deaths by inflammatory illness or violence, notorious shooting incidents where many are killed, significant military and police activity, the inauguration of war, actions causing great violence and damage in the name of war, spikes in the number of fires, and a general air of crisis and assault facing political leaders all are characteristic of angular Mars.

CapQ angles touch Venus 5/31 and Jupiter 6/4. These upbeat signals run contrary to the basic confrontational tone of the week. May 30, though, has Mars on a CanQ angle, just as the martial Arilunar is taking off.

Canlunar (Jun 6)
The Canlunar covers June 6-12. It is as simple as the Arilunar but with a different tone: Mercury is half a degree from Ascendant, Jupiter is more widely foreground, and, of course, we have a close Moon-Pluto aspect.

Essentially, it is a Mercury week. I am certain Mercury will be recognizable in the week's main national events or focus, though the possibilities are so wide that it is difficult to anticipate exactly what they will be. They will center on transportation or communication, to be sure. Perhaps a single document will be at the center of the week's news, or the news media itself will be it's own biggest story. “Special broadcasts,” media events, and incidents that interrupt normal broadcasts for news reports (especially if they take over the airwaves for a long stretch) are all Mercurial.

It's a little late for tornadoes, but this chart also favors news driven by extreme weather with wind as a central feature (though it doesn't have the marks of destruction that would come from, say, a deadly hurricane).

The significant meridian shared by San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle has Pluto exactly on MC, so expect dramatic events and an air of crisis along that line. An intriguing Venus-Neptune intersection in western Kentucky marks the center of a 150-mile radius within which Venus-Neptune events will concentrate; unfortunately, these most often signal a mass killing.

June 6 opens with Jupiter-Neptune on CapQ angles, so a streak of tornadoes may not be out of the question; otherwise, it will highlight another familiar Jupiter-Neptune theme. Mercury and Neptune are angular together 6/10, a day of disorientation, distortion, and genuinely fake (or at least seriously misleading) news.

Liblunar (Jun 12)
The Liblunar covers June 12-19, which will be the most impactful, demanding week of the month. It resembles the Arisolar in many ways, though it is more severe. The nation is in crisis, perhaps even under attack. This could be a chart of war or of an intentional effort to disrupt and destabilize us. There will be great violence, whether by human or nature.

Aspects and angularities have the small, tight orbs that distinguish major events from lesser ripples. Pluto is 0°03 from IC. Saturn squares Ascendant within 0°37' (and opposes Mars within 2°). Moon is 0°38' from Eastpoint. And we have a bit of Mercury. Mundanely, Mars opposes Saturn within 1°02'. and the angular Saturn and Pluto are in orb of conjunction.

We are undermined. Saturn and Pluto are the strongest factors. The type of events they most often share are whirlwind overturning of stability such as hurricanes, 9/11-type attacks, leader deaths and crises, or financial collapses. Without necessarily predicting these exact events, they provide a descriptive tone. Harsh, dramatic tragedies bear a sense of irrevocable loss.

An exactly angular Moon means that these events stir powerful emotional responses among the masses: We feel strongly about what is happening. Abortion or other women's well-being issues likely will be central. Mars opposite Saturn along the meridian underscores the potential for things hateful, hurtful, and destructive.

Mars and Saturn lines mark the areas where hurt will concentrate. One pair of lines moves due north through Florida, nipping eastern Georgia, passing through the Carolinas, touch western Virginia, West Virginia, and eastern Ohio. Another pair also starts in Florida and arcs closer to the coast, again through the Caroiinas and Virginia, plus central Pennsylvania and western New York. Of these areas, the most severe parans cut through Florida.

CapQ angles touch ingress Mars (squared by Mercury) 6/11 and ingress Saturn on 6/15. These days concentrate the week's harshness and hurt.

Trump Watch

Post by Jim Eshelman »

PROGRESSIONS
Continuing in orb, as the month begins, are progressed Mars sextile natal Pluto, the new, contentious progressed Mars semi-square natal Mars, and progressed Venus conjunct natal Jupiter (with Venus also trine Uranus plus progressed Sun aspecting the Venus-Jupiter).

However, a big shift occurs this month: Progressed Venus leaves orb of Jupiter May 31 and the remaining Sun-Jupiter and Sun-Venus progressions are afflicted by transiting Saturn all month. Beginning about June 1, therefore, President Trump's Teflon-like protection departs him.

TRANSITS
Trump's main long-term transit remains transiting Neptune square natal Uranus. Its effects are primarily psychological. Uranus-Neptune aspects always mean a clash of divergent realities. With Neptune transiting Uranus, it commonly means that a compelling personal vision or dream incites one to make abrupt, surprising moves or shifts. Additionally, transiting Uranus aspects natal Uranus most of last month and through June 6. Whatever is hidden is now unhidden. This transit always marks a turning point. The dual transits of Neptune and Uranus to his Uranus imply a life-juncture where one is compelled to choose (1) new freedom through unshackling and change or (2) old security through clinging to what is most familiar.

Revelation and change are reiterated as primary themes with transiting Uranus conjunct SSR IC until June 4.

Saturn squares natal Jupiter from June 5 onward (being exact 6/22) and aspects his progressed Sun essentially all month. Jupiter continues to transit Trump's Moon for the first few days (until 5/27), then the dual Jupiter transits to his luminaries are gone, another sign that protection and advantage evaporate. With Saturn's transit to Jupiter rising to full power just as Jupiter's transit to the luminaries fades, we see again that he is now entering unusually disadvantageous times.

SIDEREAL SOLAR RETURN (Jun 15)
With a new birthday, Donald Trump experiences a new Sidereal Solar Return. Though it still has uncomfortable features, the new 2019 SSR is far less severe than the harsh 2018 SSR now ending. We are compelled, therefore, to conclude that his next 12 months will be kinder to him than the last 12.

Transiting Uranus is on Eastpoint (1°15'). His natal Venus-Saturn conjunction is near IC (5° and almost 10°, respectively). Uranus squares natal Venus-Saturn mundanely (about 2° each, with Uranus at the Venus/Saturn midpoint.) These are the dominant features of the chart.

Rather than unleash a long list of every Uranian keyword, lets just say that this year, like last year, is a year of great change when he will be confronted with things that are new, unusual, and surprising. I might also add "refreshing" and "renewing" except that his natal Venus-Saturn make him seem glum. Instead, we likely will start seeing a tug-of-war in him where the adventurous and exciting are set at odds with a need to shore up the practical and emotional security of his personal affairs. (SSR Moon opposite Venus 3°21' in mundo says much the same.) Uranus to his Saturn, in particular, shows this tug-of-war between the new and the familiar or secure.

Another important factor is SSR Moon square natal Mars. However, no interpretation we give this is likely to say anything new and useful about Mr. Trump. Yes, he'll be scrappy and competitive. He'll be emotionally aggressive, or aggressively emotional. But, he's always this way: Adding one more aspect won't change much.

A few partile transits add details, even though not foreground. They are split between the helpful and the unhelpful. First, a 0°10' Jupiter-Neptune square aspects his Uranus (with Jupiter-Uranus being only 0°02'). From this he gets ingenuity and luck: His bold, outlandish approach works well for him. On the other hand, a half-degree Mars-Saturn opposition is in partile square to his Jupiter. This (as mentioned elsewhere on this page) undercuts him and costs him dearly.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (May 20)
So little is happening in Donald Trump's new SLR that it is as if he isn't even there. We all have months when our Lunar Return has nothing close or dynamic and, most of the time, they are relatively uneventful months; but it is difficult to conceive of a calm, uneventful month for Donald Trump at this point in his life.

Sun conjoins Mercury (partile), 6-7° off MC. The banal (but likely true) meaning is that, acting as head of state, he issues a significant written or verbal communication that is the main event of the next two weeks. Besides that aspect, Neptune is in the far wings of the foreground (almost 10° off Descendant), contributing little.

Three non-foreground partile transits may hold a stronger voice than usual. Most important of these, Jupiter conjoins his natal Moon (0°13'), which gives an enhanced sense of well-being, much emotion (usually happy), the release of accumulated tensions, and being the center of positive, social, respectful attention. More caustic is Mercury square natal Mars (0°38'). Finally, Neptune squares natal Uranus (0°28'), which has been much more active in earlier weeks.

Critical days include May 26 when transiting Mars aspects SSR Saturn's square to his natal Neptune. This especially draws his psychic vulnerabilities to a head, likely leading to abrupt, self-sabotaging behavior. On June 1-2 (on the eve of the harsher Demi-Lunar), Mars conjoins his SSR Moon and SSR Descendant.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Jun 3)
A benign SLR gives way to an outright malicious Demi-Lunar, which (by substantially matching the tone of the Lunar and Demi-Lunar following it) sets patterns in motion that will last about six weeks.

Natal Pluto and Jupiter are the most angular planets, respectively square Midheaven (0°25') and Ascendant (1°02'). Transiting Saturn (rising 1°), Mars (setting 3°) and Pluto (rising 4°) interact with them. This is a most severe pattern, completed by natal Mercury and Saturn setting (among other (distantly) foreground planets).

I will be bolder than the prudent mundane astrology columnist normally would be: Writing this in January, it looks like impeachment proceedings are underway as of this early June fortnight. The only other likely scenarios are comparably severe and combative, such as the nation being attacked and thrust into open warfare. The nation has similar patterns operating, shown especially in the Arisolar and the Liblunar a few days after this Demi-SLR. These two weeks bring a crisis that has been building and, with the four that follow them, represent the most severe ordeal yet for Donald Trump.

Many simultaneous layers of attack are levied at President Trump right now, shown by transiting Saturn, Mars, and Pluto alone. (The Mars/Saturn and Mars/Pluto midpoints are on this chart's horizon. A Saturn-Pluto conjunction and Mars-Saturn opposition are in orb mundanely.) Donald Trump's response will be in the nature of Jupiter + Pluto, a pair of planets that triggers dramatic shifts in one's wealth, social status, or rank.

Transits between these planets tumble atop each other. Saturn (1°06') and Pluto (4°33') square his Jupiter, which signals an acute loss of wealth or status. Mars conjoins his Mercury (1°08'), which Uranus squares more widely, representing an assault on his words and ideas, threatening disclosures and a great verbal battle. Pluto (1°13') and Saturn (2°05') oppose his Saturn (both in mundo), which undermines his most solid foundation. His natal Venus-Saturn conjunction is foreground and Pluto opposes his Venus mundanely: Events cost him relationship, love, and other things dear to him.

On June 13-14, in the last hours of his personal birthday year, with transiting Saturn already aspecting his natal Jupiter and progressed Sun-Venus, transiting Mars opposes Saturn in space, likewise squaring his Jupiter and bringing a double-affliction to progressed Sun Venus.

The floor falls out from underneath him, it seems. He is swallowed in its trauma.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Jun 16)
A new Lunar Return continues the devastating pattern of the Demi-Lunar two weeks earlier. Their tones differ only subtly: They (and the Demi-Lunar two weeks later) are much the same.

Most angular is natal Mercury, 0°02' from Descendant (all such angularities being measured in mundo, of course). Transiting Uranus is 0°12' from IC, mundanely square his Mercury within 0°10'. What matters most now is what he says and writes, and what he has said and written previously. Expect disclosures and revelations. His mind is changed: He understands or admits things he did not understand or admit before.

Transiting Saturn and Pluto rise, closely opposite Mercury and Mars which set: The tone resembles that of the prior chart. Though these factors' have less intensity, their importance is in their mutual foreground aspects. In order of closeness (in a mixture of ecliptical and mundane aspects), Mercury conjoins Mars (0°21') for intellectual and verbal combat; Mars opposes Pluto (0°42') for explosive assault, forced accountability, and great stress; Mercury opposes Pluto (1°02') for being compelled to testify or speak authentically, probably under duress; Mercury opposes Saturn (0°40') for interference or being halted and for facts that work to his disadvantage or hurt him; Mars opposes Saturn (1°41') for struggle, difficulty, and injury; Uranus squares Pluto (3°10') for seismic disruption; Saturn conjoins Pluto (3°10') for great burden and some form of unrecoverable loss; and Saturn squares Uranus (4°23') for breaking up what seemed solid.

Transits to natal planets paint a similar picture. Pluto (1°20'), Mars (2°02'), Mercury (2°22'), and Saturn (4°30') aspect his Saturn, assailing his sense of security and ability to control himself and his resources. Saturn opposes his Mercury (a third Mercury-Saturn combinations). Pluto widely opposes his Venus for permanent redefinition of important relationships.

Though natal Jupiter is not angular (he does not have its advantage), it is partile square the rising Saturn (0°21) and, more widely, Mercury and Mars: Therefore, these events cost him, directly assaulting his wealth, social standing, and rank. The only positive sign for him is transiting Jupiter, far in the background, exactly opposite natal Uranus (0°15'), a transit that sometimes brings last minute luck.

In any case, things have gotten quite serious and threatening.

Mueller spoke. He said he couldn't charge the President with any crime because Department of Justice rules said he (speaking as the Special Council) couldn't. The President of course tweated that Mueller said there was insufficient evidence so he was innocent and "Case closed!"
But that's not what Mueller said. He said there was insufficient evidence to charge the Trump campaign with conspiracy. He also said he has nothing else to say outside the report (so don't bother dragging me before hearings) but don't forget Russia tried to interfere with our election.

The House of Representatives is not in session till June 3rd. The first thing they will do is pass the Disaster Relief Bill. They are in session (meaning votes are scheduled) through the 5th, then June 9 - 13, then 18-21, 23-27, then out past the fourth of July.

The most relevant parts of Jim's post above.

Dayton got hit with two tornadoes last night, in the path predicted. Mars is on the Caplunar IC there and CapQ MC squares transiting Saturn.

CNN's morning summary read:
This spring's spate of severe weather continued overnight, with two suspected tornadoes barreling through Dayton, Ohio, just 30 minutes apart. The twin twisters caused significant damage and injuries. A third suspected tornado injured several people in a town 90 miles north of Dayton. There were some 27 reports of tornadoes yesterday in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Colorado, and much of the Midwest is at risk today for more severe weather.

Meanwhile, flooding is the big issue in the Midwest and Plains states, with the swollen Arkansas River hitting Tulsa, Oklahoma, especially hard. In the South, an early heat wave is baking Georgia, South Carolina and parts of Florida, with some triple-digit temperatures expected today and tomorrow. And if that weren't enough, a steady snowfall out West has dusted the Grand Canyon. That's only the eighth time on record there's been snowfall there so late in May.
For the latter, see (viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2877#p21486) Jupiter and Neptune lines through Oklahoma.

While travelling, I'm not following news closely. Am I correct that Trump spent yesterday in London? If so, much of what was written (copied below) about his new Demi-SLR doesn't apply, although it still has Pluto at MCZ opposite his Saturn. (I'll work up the fine points if someone can confirm that's where he spent the hour of his Demi.)

I suspect the original interpretation applies back in Washington but not as strongly. He's dodged serious bullets before by suddenly not being where they strike, and personally I'd like to see him get the full strafe of these three fortnight charts in a row, with this one being especially severe.

But if he was in London I'll rework it.

It would have been about 4 AM today (June 4) London time or about 11 PM last night Washington time.

Pres & First Lady arrived London airport about 4AM (9AM local time) Monday June 3rd.

They had lunch with the Queen, arriving at the palace at 12:15PM local time.
3:15 local they laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Westminster Abbey
They arrived at Clarence House at 4:05 for tea with Prince Charles
They arrived back at Buckingham Palace at 7:40 PM, participated in a royal procession at 8:30, sat down to a state dinner with speeches and a reception 8:45 to 11:00 PM

The Angry Baby Trump balloon flies over London. He's insulted the (Muslim) mayor of London repeatedly, endorsed candidates for Prime Minister (May has resigned) and generally been a boor. He claimed about 45 minutes ago at a press conference he hasn't seen any protesters so there aren't any.

Trump and Melania are there to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Landing at Normandy which will be June 6th, so he'll be at the cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, where Teddy Roosevelt's two sons are buried on that day, and expects to visit Ireland sometime in there.

Thanks. I'm going to go with the idea he was in London at 4 AM England time (though he's an early riser) unless we know otherwise.

This chart is quite different than it is for Washington, although the Washington chart will at least somewhat catch up after he returns home. With what has happened in England, we already see the basic message of the chart: Pluto at Midheaven interwoven with rising Venus and Uranus. He has once again upended important international relationships, flaunted decorum, and insulted allies. Were the U.S. strength in the world and our long history with our allies not as strong as it is, he likely would have ruptured one or two.

The severity is not as great as in the U.S. Washington right now is clearly a greater threat to him than British insults. Pluto is angular in both places but not transiting Saturn. Only a few of the assaulting aspects are foreground and they are not generally close. His Venus-Saturn is emphasized, especially natal Saturn (in lieu of transiting Saturn). He is more humiliated than he lets on but willing to let the Punch & Judy show play out at least a while longer.

Of the aspects, perhaps the most painful is transiting Venus in near-partile mundane square to natal Saturn. Besides his gaucheness, this is ingratitude. He's not even able to take in honest affection when it presents itself, though he may be able to turn a profit from the ungracious ingratitude. Pluto also opposes his natal Saturn, the singular harsh aspect surviving from the transplant from Washington to London. His resources are threatened, his solid foundations shaken, his security at risk, and heartlessness is the easy price for him to pay for it. Venus-Pluto transiting in mundane square is a third way of saying he really has no friends in this venture and isn't doing it for pleasure.

There is some rearrangement of his wealth and stature. It isn't as clearly threatening as in the U.S. map. In fact, it may not be negative at all. But Uranus and Pluto make aspects (however wide) to his natal Jupiter which is barely foreground.

The most interesting part of this chart, though, is probably the question of how much it will be supplanted on his return to the White House.

We're into the Liblunar as of today. Im a Saturn-Pluto month, it;s the most Saturn-Pluto week.

And, as Veronica just pointed out to me, the billion dollar cocaine bust in Philadelphia fell under this chart - part of the patch where those lines fell.
