Appointed to Supreme Court by Gerald Ford, 1975. Retired in 2010 after serving 34 years.

He died at Holycross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
He was in the hospital because he suffered a stroke yesterday.

RIP Justice Stevens, whose appointment to the Supreme Court might have been the best thing Gerald Ford did as president. His righteous dissents in Bush v. Gore and Heller (which are thoroughly enjoyable reads) even make up for what he did in Gonzales.

He was born April 20, 1920, 4:12 AM CST, Chicago, IL. His appointment as a solidly conservative justice who came to be regarded as the leader of the liberal end of the Court is strikingly shown by a 0°22' Saturn-Uranus opposition trine-sextile a foreground Pluto. He was a double Aries with a libertarian (and sometimes contrarian) spirit.
