Do Presidential Candidates generally vote for President in their home towns?

They vote at their current legal residence. For instance Joe Biden will vote in Wilmington, Delaware, not Scranton, PA.

Some vote by absentee ballot, and there's no way to figure out where they are when they fill out that ballot, or when they do so.

Thanks Jupe. I see that Kamala residence is Sacramento, Ca but was born in Oakland, Ca. She has her secondary campaign headquarters in Oakland. Does this mean she will more likely vote in Sacramento or Oakland?

If her LEGAL residence is Sacramento, she cannot vote in Oakland. She can only register where her legal residence is, and must vote there or file an absentee ballot. This is the same for her as it is for you. Where her campaign has offices has nothing to do with it. .

You are only allowed to vote where your legal residence is because that's where you have skin in the game. The outcomes of votes only affect you where you live.

My parents had a "second home." My father was registered to vote at their first home, but my mother changed her legal residence to the second home so she could vote on things like raising taxes on non-residents.

This is one of the great difficulties of using solar and lunar returns for predicting elections: We don't know where they will be on election day! Yes, they have to vote at their legal residence and to qualify to be a California senator she has to keep her legal residence in California. OTOH they usually travel during the day, such as flying one place to vote and somewhere else to wait out the election returns. One would think the bigger question would be: Where will she be in the last hours after polling closes in California? Where would she plan to give her victory (or other) speech?

If she is a VP candidate, then this is heavily modified by where the presidential candidate will be. For example, three of the other front-runners are East Coast people (Delaware, Massachusetts, Vermont). The fifth of the front runners is from northern Indiana. A VP candidate will fly to wherever the presidential candidate's primary headquarters are located to appear on stage with him or her.

The above, I now think, is primarily important for quotidians and little else. Of course there is the issue of transit to one's local angles (of the natal and SSR). But for reading the SSR and SLR themselves, I am now convinced the location that matters is where they are when the chart starts. Where will Harris spend her birthday? Unfortunately, since her birthday is October 20, we won't know that information until a few days before the election. Normally, it's probably a toss-up of being in Washington or in the Bay Area (nobody travels to Sacramento for their birthday ), but, if she's the candidate, she'll be on the road and could be anywhere in the country.

Look at the astromap for her 2020 SSR and see how Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, and Mars lines drape across western states. A short travel distance totally changes the look of the chart. One might think Phoenix is a good place for her to be on her birthday, but it also has risks.
