Guatemala earthquake

April 18, 1902, 8:23 PM (= 2:23 UT 19th) 14N 91W. 800-2,000 died.

Magnitude 7.5 with major foreshocks and aftershocks: a swarm of earthquakes stretching across three months leading to the quake with weeks of aftershocks. No single point of impact I can find, so I'm using the capital, Guatemala City.

Strange meteorological phenomena with it. Weeks before the quake, rain fell after afternoon for several days running; then, heavy thunderstorms with much lightning occurred soon before the quake causing flooding in the capital that left 80,000 people homeless in a single hour. Then, immdiately after the quake the sky cleared and no rain fell for threeweeks.

Given the magnitude and the location, I am surprised to find no mention of tsunamis.

Note: This quake awakened Vulcan Santa Maria, long dormant, which explosively erupted six months later. (Saturn in Capricorn had a lot of volcanoes.) This occurred in the time of the Uranus-Pluto oppositions around 1902 and they play heavily in the charts.
