Great progression examples, some things learned

Post by Jim Eshelman »

I just finished the Secondary Progressions phase of the new Event Project (comparing different predictive techniques with A and B birth data, of people connected to events already studied in SMA), and the progressions examples are, in some cases, quite extraordinary.

Three things stand out:

1. There are a surprisingly great many examples that got a +3 score
2. Location matters! Many people would likely still be alive if they'd "stayed out of Dodge."
3. The number of partile-to-the-minute (or nearly) projections is rather impressive, including some from outermost planets that normally you'd think wouldn't count for much in progressions.

Some lesser things are evident, as well. For example, I've always considered very minor aspects, like the semi-sextile and quincunx, valid in progressions - more or less "everything goes." These do hold up, but not staggeringly, except when they are within a very few minutes of orb - not sure where to think of a cut-off, but it's definitely within single-digits of minutes.

For starters, you might just want to look at the +3 events in general as examples of how diverse factors come together and gel around an event. Here is the post (it should center on the Secondary Progressions post):

Let's take a look at where location was a big deal.

Abraham Lincoln (Murder)
L. p. Asc 180 r. Moon 0°04'
This was a minor effect. Natal Moon was brought locally to the anareta. Other aspects showed the nature of the event much better.

Charles Whitman (Austin tower shootings)
He was primed for violence anyway, but his exact location fed it even more.
p. Asc 90 p. Mars 44'
p. Mars 0 L. Asc 33'
L. p. Asc 90 p. Neptune 36'
-- p. Neptune 180 r. Mars 07'
-- p. Neptune 90 r. Moon 59'

Christa McAuliffe (Challenger explosion) +3
p. Mars 180 r. Asc 13'
L. p. MC 180 r. Saturn 34'
She already had potentially violent (and also potentially heroic!) aspects cooking wherever she was, but, dang, Cape Canaveral was not the place to go next.

Princess Diana (Death) +3
There are times in one's life that one really should avoid Paris, no matter how hot and rich the guy.
p. Saturn 90 L. MC 13'
p. Mars 90 L. Asc 28'

Frank Borman (Apollo 8 launch) +3
On the other hand, for fame history will long remember, maybe you want to go where you can pilot the first flight to the Moon and back.
p. Jupiter 180 L. Asc 27'

John Glenn (Friendship 7 launch) +2
...or where you can be the first person to loop the earth a few times (a nice, short drive around the block)...
p. Mercury 90 L. Asc 10'
p. L. Asc 0 r. Moon 54'

Martin Luther King, Jr. (Murdered) +3
If he'd just stayed out of Memphis.... But, then, that was his work and his destiny.
p. L Asc conj. r. Mars 19'

Let's take a look at examples where key aspects were exact to more or less the minute. These aren't the full picture of the progressions, just a few excruciatingly close aspects that mostly need no comment.

Abraham Lincoln (Murder)
L. p. Asc 180 r. Moon 0°04'

Christa McAuliffe (Challenger explosion)
(Other factors showed the violent end. Thus showed how she was already uplifted as a model and hero - "the teacher" - up to the moment the explosion occurred, and after.)
p. Moon 0 L. MC 35'
p. Moon 30 p. Jupiter 0°00'
p. Mercury 60 r. Moon 0°01'

Princess Diana (Wedding)
p. Uranus 90 r. Venus 0°01'
p. Sun 45 p. Mars 0°06'

Princess Diana (Death)
p. Mars 45 r. Neptune 0°01', p. Neptune 0°02'
-- p. Neptune 0 r. Neptune 0°01'

King Edward VIII (Announced abdication)
p. Pluto 150 r. Uranus 0°00'

Edward White (Apollo 1 fire)
p. Neptune 45 r. Pluto 0°02'

Queen Elizabeth II (Coronation)
p. Saturn 0 r. Jupiter 0°01'

Queen Elizabeth II (Eldest son's wedding)
p. Mars 30 r. Sun 0°00'
p. Venus 45 p. Uranus 0°01'
p. Neptune 180 r. Jupiter 0°02'
p. Asc 0 p. Venus 0°06'

Frank Borman (Apollo 8 launch)
p. MC 0 p. Neptune 0°05'
p. Venus 90 r. MC 0°06'
p. MC 0 r. Venus 0°07'

Franklin D. Roosevelt (Died)
(This isn't the best aspect, though closest - he did die of a brain aneurism.)
p. Moon 150 p. Mercury 0°02'
p. Asc 180 p. Neptune 0°09'

Harvey Milk (Murder) +1
p. Uranus 45 r. Sun 0°05'
p. Sun 45 p. Neptune 0°06'

J. Pierpont Morgan (Titanic sank) +2
p. Uranus 30 r. Jupiter 0°00'
p. Uranus 0 r. EP 0°04'

Jim Jones (Jonestown massacre) +2
p. Neptune 120 r. Mercury 0°02'
p. Venus 60 p. Uranus 0°02'
p. Uranus 90 r. Pluto 0°03'
p. Venus 30 r Pluto 0°03'

p. Sun 60 r. Pluto 0°08'

Warren G. Harding (Died) +2
p. Jupiter 60 p. Saturn 0°01'

p. Venus 45 p. Saturn 0°00'

They seen to be working just like transits, with the progressed modifying the natal. Morgan had Uranus to Jupiter ("break your luxury toy and your bank," not "your cool new wonder succeeds and is profitable"). McAuliffe had Mercury to Jupiter ("the press enhances your esteem," not "fun, lucky travel"). And so forth.
