US forecast Apr 5 - May 2, 2021

Post by Jim Eshelman »

USA Mundane Forecast
for the four weeks beginning APRIL 5, 2021

If you are unfamiliar with the methods and interpretations of Sidereal mundane astrology, please see my free book Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link can be found near the top of the Publications sub-forum.) For standard interpretations, see Chapter 8 of the current (17th) Edition.

LONG-TERM (Solar Ingresses)
Capsolar effective Jan 14, 2021 to Jan 14, 2022. (Summarized from my original interpretation in the Jan 13-Feb 9 forecast.)
  • More severe than 2020, but a year of action instead of paralysis.
  • Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn continues to define conditions, emphasizing autonomous survival and solitary self-sufficiency.
  • MARS square SATURN (0°34', exactly angular). Harsh, hateful, hurtful, destructive hardship, e.g., deadly violence, fires, explosions, financial crises. Fosters hate + conflict arising from feeling powerless, shamed, diminished: Primitives competing for basic survival amidst widespread hardship.
  • JUPITER square URANUS (0°42'). Recovery and salvation through scientific advances and social revolution. Collective optimism anticipating good change. Broadly, boldly liberal government or political activism: Ideological rebellion, remapping the larger social contract, liberal social agendas (demanding wider horizons, expanded and diversified opportunity, civil liberties). Invention, futurism, new tech (or tech vision), and “good science” engage imagination. (Uncommon for disasters except floods.)
  • Activity and activism, rarely gentle or well-behaved.
  • Mars-Uranus. Explosive: physical or psychological "bombshells," surprise attack, sudden action, "lightning war" (blitzkrieg). Moon-Uranus. Swiftly changing circumstances requiring rapid adaptation and response. Moon-Mars. A broad sense of emergency: Violence, fire, disaster, damage, assassination (or other severe crisis for leaders).
  • Economic difficulties: Economic crisis and threatened markets (Jupiter to Mars-Saturn). Shifting conditions in banking and economic management (Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter in Capricorn). The upside: We surely need to consume significant resources for economic recovery.
  • Structural investment. Rebuilding economic foundations and physical infrastructure.
  • Spinning up the wheels of industry, economic expansion: Greater industry and productivity (from the same aspects).
  • Mars-Jupiter is stormy (including destructive weather). Forward momentum, expansive, with an enterprising spirit useful to recovery. Post-pandemic era of opportunity for new entrepreneurs, renewed entrepreneurial spirit, readily available capital investment.
Arisolar (Apr 14)
Effective Apr 14 to Oct 18. This ingress marks the best six months of the year with Jupiter on Descendant (0°38') and square culminating Moon (1°37'). Yet, Saturn is also angular (WP 1°17) - weaker, but still strong. In a troubled year, survival challenges continue into the second and third quarters concurrent with emerging good news. "Getting better" is a gradual transition. During these six months, both good and bad things happen but good news predominates. Jupiter means increased prosperity: People get back to work. Economic markers stabilize with an increasing sense of optimism and well-being. Families and communities feel stronger and more secure. This is so despite a rough road getting there.

Saturn squares Uranus. Independence vs. restriction and liberal vs. conservative polarizations intensify. People have been in lockdown and restrictive conditions for a year and are anxious to get out of their doors and back to their old lives despite (or defying) the risks. Expect ongoing tensions between freedom and safety, between "the old way" and "the new way." Also, political opposition and gridlock loom as threats at a time we can least afford them.

MEDIUM-TERM (The Bridge)

ALL MONTH: Pluto Neptune Saturn. Pluto and Saturn transit Capsolar angles. CanQ Moon squares ingress Neptune (and transiting Neptune after 4/23). Saturn-Pluto brings flashbacks of 2020's apocalyptic feel. With Moon-Neptune, this is borne on a wave of mass-mind confusion, disorientation, and uncertainty. Saturn-Neptune signals grief, loss, and fear, intensified negativity, an undercutting of security, and demands for sacrifice and renunciation. These conditions suggest a horrendous resurgence of the pandemic at a level not expected at the time of this writing (Fall 2020).

Within this larger pattern are two periods of more acute pain triggered by Mars and the start of a turn-around late in the month:

Apr 6-9: Pluto Neptune Saturn Mars. Transiting Mars conjoins CanQ Moon. The pattern is thus Saturn-Pluto on Capsolar angles + Mars-Neptune aspecting CanQ Moon. (The Mars-Neptune effect is world wide; Saturn-Pluto is concentrated on the U.S.) To the apocalyptic feel, Mars adds a greater sense of emergency or threat and perhaps loss of life. Mars-Neptune signals terror. Both are consistent with feverish disease, fire, and other Mars phenomena such as military or police conflict or bloodshed. These few days are pretty bad.

Apr 21-28: Pluto Neptune Saturn Mars. Mars crosses Cansolar IC and squares its Ascendant. The forecast is the same as for April 6-9 except Mars is now concentrated (with Saturn and Pluto) on the U.S., not worldwide like Neptune.

Apr 28 to END: Pluto Neptune Uranus Saturn. Uranus squares Capsolar Ascendant: thus, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto are on Capsolar angles, while progressed Cansolar Moon aspects ingress and transiting Neptune. In an uncertain time, with doubt, insecurity, and dread overflowing the banks, something new appears! This doesn't necessarily bring more calm or security, but does start to break loose stuck circumstances. Tensions between safety vs. liberty surge. Political polarization tensions gear back up. Any movement is a good sign.

Jupiter enters Aquarius April 10 where it remains until September 6. We especially expect science and new technology to make a powerful, positive impact on life and further the Jupiter-Uranus themes outlined above. -- Summaries of longer-term trends from outer planet sign transits are here.

SHORT-TERM (Lunar Ingresses)

Liblunar (Mar 29)
Effective March 29-April 12, overlapping a severe Mars-Saturn-Neptune-Pluto Bridge pattern (described above). This chart seems insidious, threatening, and deceptive. Mars is exactly at Midheaven. Mercury and Neptune conjoin (0°24') near Descendant. Moon squares Pluto.

Mars angular signifies hurtful events such as fires, natural disasters, high profile deaths by inflammatory illness or violence, notorious shootings, military or police activity, and an air of crisis. Mercury-Neptune signifies confusion, disorientation, and bad (confused) choices, prompting uncertain people to ask, “What happens now?” Impairment of transportation and communication routes are always more likely with afflicted Mercury. Types of event that draw these themes together are bombs and other explosions.

The entire week is volatile (transiting Mars on a CanQ angle). March 29 may bring boiling over of emotions into the streets. San Francisco is especially vulnerable to tragedy.

Caplunar (Apr 5)
The Caplunar is dormant. Moon-Pluto is stronger than usual for the month: In Washington, the mundane conjunction is 0°16' wide. - Around the country, Los Angeles has surprises and shake-ups, Northern California and the Northwest are burdened and restricted, Minneapolis stands out for prosperity, justice, and general good news, and Indianapolis can expect fires and violence.

Arilunar (Apr 12)
Effective April 12-19. Is there an April "Third Wave" of the pandemic? The Bridge suggests that there is, and this Arilunar concentrates concern on this week. Saturn rises exactly (0°17') in Washington. Worldwide, Moon highlights Venus square Pluto. In Washington, Moon squares Mars in mundo. These factors signify loss, restriction, downturn, narrowing, and even grieving, with emotional impact affecting whole communities. Alliances fray, whether international or domestic.

With Moon conjunct Sun, government is involved, perhaps to provide relief in the U.S. since Jupiter is also angular in Washington. In this spring's theme of good news and bad news coexisting, this chart leans toward the negative. Expect more restrictions on life this week, not less.

Eastern seaboard states are particularly impacted by the negative turn. In contrast, something charming (special good news) is in store for the longitude that includes Phoenix and Salt Lake City.

Canlunar (Apr 19)
Effective April 19-26. Neptune squares MC (0°04'). Moon opposes Pluto (1°46'). Apprehension and uncertainty dominate the week. Any number of Neptunian events could emerge, all with the characteristics of insanity - madness, confusion, uncertainty, and disorientation, a wondering what comes next - a sense that surely another shoe will drop soon. Last week's threat still hovers.

Boston is exactly struck by Mars: Fires, violence, and inflammation can be expected. Los Angeles suffers under Saturn. Denver gets good news and a break.

Liblunar (Apr 26)
Effective April 26 to May 2. Neptune is 0°42' from Eastpoint. Moon squares Pluto (1°46'). In other words, the chart is indistinguishable from the Canlunar for the week before. It's primary import for Washington is the same.

Los Angeles has a much nicer week, though restrictions intensify in Santa Barbara and the central valley. The stock market may feel a negative impact of uncertainty as Neptune's angularity passes exactly through New York City.

The Biden Report

Post by Jim Eshelman »

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Apr 12)
Effective Apr 11 to May 9. Natal Neptune is 0°20' from Ascendant. (That's the whole chart.) Given the likely conditions in the nation at that point, this may signify overwhelm. In any case, the primary themes of natal Neptune closely angular are confusion, exaggerated responses, vulnerability, embarrassment, anxiety, and physical and emotional sensitivity. This is made all the stronger with transiting Neptune conjunct natal IC for the 8:30 birth time.

Background partile aspects show background (or backdrop) conditions. Transiting Uranus is 0°03' from square Biden's Pluto in mundo for high-impact, shifting, and hopefully transformative circumstances. Mundane squares of Venus-Pluto and of Saturn to his Mars reinforce the painful character of the events. (We expect the nation to be going through an extreme crisis at this time, perhaps an unexpected Third Wave of the pandemic.) Otherwise, if it's more personal to him, these aspects likely show personal loss, distance from allies, and personal attacks. [These mundane aspects are visible in the 90° mundoscope sort below.] [Biden 90dial SLR.jpg removed]

NOTE (experimental): Biden's natal Eris is 4°13' from SLR Descendant.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Apr 26)
Effective Apr 25 to May 9. In most respects, this reiterates themes of the SLR but in a more grievous way. Transiting Neptune replaces natal Neptune in the foreground (though more widely). Most angular, though, is natal Saturn, 2° from Midheaven.

Much of what is said above about the SLR applies here. The focus is different, though: Natal Saturn foreground emphasizes the demands and expectations one places on oneself. Common expressions of this include intense work fueled by self-doubt and preoccupation with one's own shortcomings. Survival behaviors are forefront. At the very least, this fortnight will give us the opportunity to learn how Biden responds to his natal Saturn being highlighted.

Background partile aspects suggest the continuation of severe conditions. Transiting Saturn squares natal Mars. Mars squares natal Neptune. There is, however, cause for hope that he will engineer a solution: Transiting Jupiter squares natal Sun within 1°.

This is a bad month. He will be seriously tested in his ability to lead.

This forecast, written and posted December 6, correctly anticipated the Chauvin victory just handed down: The jury found him guilty on all three counts.

I just realized it also anticipated the shooting in Indianapolis; but, since shootings of stretched across the whole country in recent weeks, I'm not going to emphasize that I happened to pick one place they would occur.

Reviewing the Canlunar and Liblunar forecasts (they were closely connected). I'll list below the actual forecast, not the astrological thinking, then see what I can dig out of the news for their fortnight.
Jim Eshelman wrote: Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:47 pm Canlunar (Apr 19)
Effective April 19-26. Apprehension and uncertainty dominate the week. Last week's threat still hovers.
The main event of the week was Darren Chauvin's conviction in the George Floyd murder trial - a result shown for the month by Minneapolis' Caplunar. Therefore, we did not have the rioting and mass hysteria we might have expected from the Canlunar alone. Other than the nation still feeling the reeling impact of the trial's evidence from the week before, I don't see any clear Neptune events dominating the time. (A lot of positive stuff happened.)
Liblunar (Apr 26)
Effective April 26 to May 2. ...the chart is indistinguishable from the Canlunar for the week before. It's primary import for Washington is the same... The stock market may feel a negative impact of uncertainty as Neptune's angularity passes exactly through New York City.
The market has indeed been a little bouncy and a little down (even with the excellent news that the economy grew an annual rate of 6.4% in the first quarter of 2021), but nothing serious. The main news out of NYC (and yes, maybe this caused some extreme, swooning emotion) was that restaurants are opening now and almost everything will be open for pre-Covid business levels soon. Oh, and the federal raid on Rudy Giuliani's home and office. (After all, he was the mayor once upon a time.)

This continued to be a pretty positive time. Perhaps in some areas, surging emotions are stirred by the DOJ's announcement of full investigations into different cities' police departments, plus filing federal civil rights charges against Chauvin and his collaborating police colleagues.

Reviewing the Arilunar forecast against what happened:
Jim Eshelman wrote: Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:47 pm Arilunar (Apr 12)

My memory is that the safety-freedom tension has been persistently present but, overall. While the objective news was good, the things on people's minds were horrible. In particular, gun violence is the biggest deadly crisis facing the country. It's been unremitting for weeks, and this week seems to have been a peak. The Indianapolis FedEx shooting occurred (shown in the Caplunar, not necessarily the Week chart). April 18 had several new fatal shootings around the country, none big by itself but showing a surging wave. - Nightly protests in Brooklyn Center, MN over the Daunte Wright killing lasted most of the week.

As the Arilunar began, coronavirus cases in the U.S. were climbing, but death rates were going down. (More infections, fewer deaths.) The big concern (which only had a slight effect) was the discovery of life-threatening blood clot cases in a few recipients of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which caused its use to be temporarily suspended (but only a day or two of real consequences in terms of vaccination rate).

Former Vice President Walter Mondale died.

I've been thinking for several months that the Bridge has been more useful the last year than the weekly lunar ingresses. That's one reason I started keeping a tighter diary of daily news. Here I'll check actual events against the pretty threatening sound of the Bridge forecast for the last four weeks.

Ongoing mass killings have been pretty consistent, the the worldwide elements show outside the U.S. in rising disease impact, a significant volcanic eruption, and Prince Philip's death, but is there anything (especially Mars-themed) marking this time in the U.S.? Nothing I can find.
Apr 21-28 ...The forecast is the same as for April 6-9 except Mars is now concentrated (with Saturn and Pluto) on the U.S., not worldwide like Neptune.
DOJ announced depth investigations into various cities' police departments. Increased attention on police killings of civilians in the aftermath of the Chauvin verdict. A lot of environmental activism news (none of it bad), falling neutral-to-good (this may have been seasonal: Earth Day was this week). Rudy Giuliani's home and office were raided in Manhattan.
Apr 28 to END ...In an uncertain time, with doubt, insecurity, and dread overflowing the banks, something new appears! I'm pretty sure this is talking about Pres. Biden's first address before a joint session of Congress on the 28th, which fits mostly every detail given here of Uranus' arrival.

Everything else is a spin-off of this.

Re: The Biden Report

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Finally, I'll check whether I was correct in my forecast for President Biden based on his SLRs. My impression is that I was way off the mark - that I called this as an especially bad month but it was an especially good month. I'll check that impression objectively against events affecting or arising from him.
Jim Eshelman wrote: Sat Nov 14, 2020 12:47 pm SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Apr 12)

One can imagine the wave of violence has an effect on him - probably strong enough I need to mention it - but I want to focus on things more visibly impacting him or arising from him. He was pretty active during the time: I can't easily assess whether it fits anything I wrote.

April 12: The White House announced agreements for Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala to tighten their borders with more troops to slow the migration flow. VP Harris is handling this.

April 13: Biden announced all U.S. troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan by 9/11.

April 15: Biden announced sanctions against Russian entities and expulsion of Russian diplomats for their interference in U.S. elections and the SolarWinds hack.

April 16: The White House announced Biden would keep, for now, Trump’s cap on the number of refugees into the U.S. this year (15,000) but would redistribute the mix of where they could come from. After a loud backlash from Democratic leaders, the White House reversed course a few hours later and announced that the cap would be raised.

April 20: Biden spoke to the nation (generally well received) following the Darren Chauvin verdict.

April 22: Began a two-day virtual climate summit with 40 world leaders. Called for the U.S. to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 (and said he’d do it himself if Congress wouldn’t make the commitment).

April 24: Officially used the word “genocide” to describe the killing of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire over a century ago.
SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Apr 26)
Effective Apr 25 to May 9. In most respects, this reiterates themes of the SLR but in a more grievous way... Much of what is said above about the SLR applies here. The focus is different, though: ...emphasizes the demands and expectations one places on oneself [such as] intense work fueled by self-doubt and preoccupation with one's own shortcomings. The last sentence couldn't be farther from the truth given the biggest event of the fortnight: His State of the Union style address to Congress to close out his first 100 days in office. It was a masterpiece of leadership and also allowed the celebration of victories thus far.

I take note that this period was indeed an opportunity to see how Biden responds when natal Saturn is up! He seems fine with it, just works harder, confronts tough matters.

We still haver a week to go in this chart, but, so far, the speech is the only big thing of the period (and it is indeed a big deal thing).
