Max & Augusta Foss Heindel

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Max Heindel was born July 23, 1865, 4:32 AM LMT, Aarhus, Denmark. His wife, Augusta Foss Heindel, was born January 27, 1865, 5:20 PM LMT, Mansfield, OH (A rated). Together they founded and ran the Rosicrucian Fellowship still on beautiful grounds in in Oceanside, CA, one of the most influential schools of astrology in the 20th century.

Gary Duncan used to tell me stories (most details of which I've long forgotten) of how he and Donald Bradley as boys (I think it must have been in their teens) would go from Long Beach down to Oceanside for the day and how Foss was a mentor and (it seemed) a bit of a surrogate mother to them. I won't say much about their background and contributions - biographies exist of them and I don't know that much detail - but I thought the charts would serve as a worthy example for those who want to dig into their lives. Here are some Wikipedia articles for starters:

The first astonishing thing that jumps out of the two charts is that Max had Sun and Moon in Cancer, and was born just after they rose. Foss had Sun and Moon both in Capricorn and was born just as they were setting (with substantially the same angles as Max). He was born with Neptune at Midheaven, she with Saturn on IC. Therefore, I have strong suspicions of who kept the place running in practical terms!

Their charts are intensely linked by their luminaries and Ascendants, especially by her Sun on his Descendant and opposite his Moon. (They, of course, saw themselves as Leo and Aquarius, supporting their seeing themselves as voicing the revolutionary vision of the Aquarian Age.) Her Venus squares both of their Jupiters, her Mars squares his Mars and - most interesting - her Saturn squares his Sun within 0°01'.
