USA Mundane Forecast
for the four weeks beginning MARCH 26, 2022

If you are unfamiliar with the methods and interpretations of Sidereal mundane astrology, please see my free book Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link can be found near the top of the Publications sub-forum.) For standard interpretations, see Chapter 8 of the current (17th) Edition.

LONG-TERM (Solar Ingresses)
Capsolar effective Jan 15, 2022 to Jan 15, 2023. (Summarized from my original interpretation in the Jan 15-30 forecast.)
  • An accounting cycle for the Biden administration. Republican gains seem certain in the midterm elections.
  • Sun conjunct Pluto (1°21'): Unprecedented conditions, irrevocable shifts, rebellion against prevailing conditions, assault on or removal of those in power, and disrespect for law (greater lawlessness). People demand freedom from arbitrary control or leadership they feel is failing them. More people think of themselves as "a law unto oneself" or "exception to the rules." Diverse themes from severe natural disasters to political confrontation.
  • Moon-Mars-Neptune: Crime is up. Neighborhoods feel more dangerous. Ferocious civil unrest. What was once called "civilization" rips open with unaddressed grievance while struggling to settle into new patterns in which people feel greater safety and security.
  • Sun-Pluto with Moon-Mars-Neptune: Increased physical threat to the president or the Federal government as a whole (perhaps through heightened domestic terrorism).
  • Moon opposite Mars (affecting the world as a whole): A state of alarm. Typical expressions: violence, blood, fire, earthquakes, accidents, other destruction; often significant loss of life. Other expressions: war, bombings and explosions, other attacks, deaths of leaders. Moon square Neptune (local to Washington): Waves of emotional reaction, fervor, herd-mind arousal, or panic accompanied by confusion, disorientation, uncertainty, and an undermined sense of security. Mars-Neptune: Panic or feeling the ground fall from under one’s feet - surging adrenaline with heightened aroused emotion - increasing the risk of treachery, sabotage, other betrayal, poisoned relationships, and scandal.
  • Sun/Mercury = IC: Broadly intensifies and highlights Mercury themes, including transportation, commerce, and science. Mercury square Uranus: Scientific and technological advances continue (no turning from technology). Freedom and flexibility in communication and travel are big break-out themes, including significant expansion and redesign in social media's impact. Science continues to have direct, relevant influence on people's changing lives.
  • Mercury-Uranus impacts social trends: With growing urgency of antisocial independence and autonomous self-sufficiency, with people feeling exempt from precedents and historic social standards, "independent thinking" becomes a rallying cry (though probably more of a fantasy than a reality: herd-mind passions surge the cry for "independent" opinion). Passion-fed rejection of expert opinion, reliance on crowd opinion, other challenges to convention or authority. “Don’t tell me how to think” takes on new, widespread life.
Arisolar (Apr 14)
Effective Apr 14 to Oct 18 (due to a dormant Cansolar). This is a boring chart that likely will have little independent impact. It's one close angularity is Mercury (Dsc: 0°40'). While highlighting obvious Mercury themes (communication, transportation, technology), and perhaps showing newsworthy developments in these areas - and perhaps in the news media itself - this is remarkably little to say about the chart that dominates nearly the entire period of the mid-term election cycle. I think primarily it yields to the Capsolar (which has plenty to say about the elections). Given the unusual mildness of October's Libsolar, this may be the mildest, gentlest election cycle in over a decade - which would be a startling result!

MEDIUM-TERM (The Bridge)

ALL MONTH: Pluto sq. Capsolar Asc, Neptune sq. Capsolar Moon, forging a NEPTUNE-PLUTO ZONE. A continuing procession of shifting conditions is now met by collective (massing) populist voices. Waves of heightened emotional reaction, fervor, and herd-mind arousal, possibly accompanied by confusion, uncertainty, and an undermined sense of security. This could be a reflection of the election cycle or the ferocious civil unrest forecast from the Capsolar for the year.

April 11-20: Jupiter squares Capsolar Moon, creating a JUPITER-NEPTUNE-PLUTO ZONE. The unrest calms or adopts a particular focus for a week and a half. Especially, attention is on the shared Jupiter-Neptune transits to Capsolar Moon: It is likely a period of excess, immoderation, and glut. Inflation spikes. In addition to events centered on Jupiter-Neptune themes such as faith and entertainment, we have a brief time of unreasoned optimism and social cohesiveness favoring the collective with a conviction that we thrive better together. Typical Jupiter-Neptune events include social idealism, inspiration, dreams of something better; collective action (civil rights movements, labor strikes, socialism, humanitarian acts (that may intensify retaliatory opposition, resistance, and bigotry). The spring tornado season is unusually strong where Jupiter-Neptune falls on angles.

Summaries of longer-term trends from outer planet sign transits are here.

SHORT-TERM (Lunar Ingresses)

Caplunar (Mar 26)
Effective Mar 26 to Apr 22, especially the first week, Mar 26-Spr 2. Neptune is 0°16' from MC, but at least it is Neptune at its best - thanks to a Jupiter conjunction.

Angular Neptune always signals extreme excitement, whether happy or unhappy: the insanity of a crowd, as at a major sports event or acting as a mob: madness, confusion, uncertainty, and the hovering question, “So, what happens now?” When Neptune is aspected by benefics, this excitement and madness at least tends to be fun.

Jupiter-Neptune aspects foster unreasoned optimism, one form of which is faith. Economically it fosters inflation or the gambler's enthusiasm of a stock market surge. Most often, the aspect expresses social cohesiveness and a conviction that we thrive better together than apart. Social idealism, inspiration, and hope feed collective action. Whether the aftermath brings disillusionment (misplaced optimism) depends on whether effective action also occurs now. Entertainment themes flourish (is it too early in the year for movie blockbusters?). In the less likely event of tragic events (sponsored by other charts), expect a significant religious, ceremonial, celebration, or entertainment locale or other theme.

Moon squares Mercury and, more widely, Pluto. Moon-Mercury brings so many themes - the usual list of events drawing abundant media attention, transportation (fight), and communication.

One Moon-Mercury theme is heavy wind. As this ingress occurs in spring, remember that Jupiter-Neptune is the most common foreground aspect for tornadoes. As they are angular in Washington, the entire nation is vulnerable; however the most likely areas to get hit by twisters is the zone where Jupiter-Neptune squares Ascendant, from eastern Texas curving northwest across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Arilunar (Apr 2)
Effective Apr 2-9. Moon is on Nadir (1°11'). Mars is on Eastpoint (1°41'). Most eye-catching is that angular Mars conjoins Saturn (0°45' mundo) near the often-hurtful exaltation degree of Mars. Mars also conjoins Venus (1°38' mundo). Pluto is just over 3° from Ascendant.

Taken together, these speak of a hard, hurtful week. (The extreme weather suggested by the Caplunar may concentrate on this week.) Moon, as the most angular planet, suggests a powerful feeling response surging upward from the masses, feeling strongly and in common about an event, as if in outrage or sympathy. In human affairs this could be a surge of mass sympathy for a tragedy or even angry protests. With regard to the weather, it may be the destruction of a raging storm. In either case, raging is the word of the week.

Though strongly angular, neither Moon, Mars, nor Pluto is partile, so this isn't likely to be a "worst of the worst:" scenario. Nonetheless, the tone is hurtful and perhaps hateful. Venus-Mars ensures inflamed passions prevailing over reason, shortened tempers, and wounded alliances.

Mars' exact angularity is at the longitude of Philadelphia. Mars intersects Moon (near Saturn) in central New York and the Hudson Valley, possible locations of its concentrated expression. Expect significant entertainment news out of Las Vegas, perhaps a gigantic opening event or celebration. Corpus Christi is in Sun-Mercury-Pluto crosshairs that have historically timed unexpected events of explosive impact.

Canlunar (Apr 9)
Effective Apr 9-16. The theme of the week seems to be tearing down iconic structures, either literally or metaphorically. Uranus is exactly on Zenith, mundanely square a foreground Saturn and non-angular Mars. Pluto is on Westpoint in RA, strengthened further by a mundane square with Sun. Uranus-Pluto emphasized together dismantle current systems and sometimes literally level physical buildings.

It's a week of change and breaking out of old patterns to prepare for stark new directions. In general, Uranus + Pluto is destabilizing, eruptive, revolutionary, revising, remapping, anti-establishment, and often anti-government, bringing new, unconventional conditions. Because this is merely a one-week chart with mostly modest angular orbs, this won't be major, long-term impact, but it should set a new main theme. (Perhaps Biden's infrastructure plan will have started renovating physical structures by this point.)

What we do expect more, though, is stark revision of the way people think. Mercury squares Pluto in the foreground - reinforced by aspects from Moon - an aspect known to shift paradigms and reframe how people think about things (occasionally by shock).

For one point of high impact and possibly lawlessness, see the Sun-Pluto intersection in southern Louisiana. Jupiter-Neptune again graces the longitude of Las Vegas. Florida's panhandle (and areas due north of it) concentrate Moon and Pluto.

Liblunar (Apr 16)
Effective Apr 16-May 6. This is surely the most interesting week of the month with strong aspects drawing out themes already established in the Capsolar and Cansolar. Moon is exactly on Nadir and Pluto setting. Moon opposes the culminating Sun 0°02' in mundo and both - especially Sun - square the setting Pluto. This chart is unusually important for a Liblunar because the next two ingresses are dormant, making this a three-week chart.

It seems President Biden is the center of attention, with very significant news. He likely takes a demoralizing hit. Given the overall tone of the year, I expect it not to be easy for him. He might surprise everyone with his familiar Scorpio boldness and audacity but holding him accountable for results is the likely direction. As mentioned for the Capsolar, Sun-Pluto aspects foster unprecedented conditions, irrevocable shifts, rebellion against prevailing conditions, and taking on those in power.

A second theme arising from the 0°02' Moon-Sun opposition is marriage. Under this aspect, significant publicized weddings occur and other actions, such as legislation or court decisions impacting marriage rights and conditions.

A very exact Jupiter-Neptune aspect culminates through Mississippi, western Tennessee near Memphis, and through Illinois and Wisconsin. Along with other Jupiter-Neptune themes, these commonly cause unruly spring weather such as flooding or tornadoes. The longitude of Phoenix is under a Mars line. Venus angular along California's central and northern coastal zones suggests unusually pleasant weather and events. Moon-Sun-Pluto, already strong for the entire country, especially concentrates on New York, New Jersey, and the Philadelphia region, and about 100 miles either side.

The Biden Report

Post by Jim Eshelman »

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Apr 2)
Effective Apr 1-30. One needn't dwell too heavily on this month's charts. Their message is pretty simple. First, in an interesting twist, neither the full SLR nor its demi has a single transiting planet foreground: Everything is about Biden's own planets, his own actions and responses, and his own psychological patterns - and the strongest natal planets are negative and demoralizing. Bottom line, it's a demoralizing time when he is physically and emotionally spent and entertains doubts about himself.

Natal Saturn is 0°14' from SLR Zenith (i.e., the upper square to Ascendant). That's the chart in a nutshell. He also has natal Uranus more moderately foreground. His natal Sun-Venus conjunction is widely foreground. He is unhappy about how things are going and wants to find ways to change things. (The concurrent Arilunar marks a hard, brutal, week, strong in public outcry and rage about some central matter in the news.)

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Apr 17)
Apr 16-30. The demi-lunar continues the demoralizing trend of the SLR and, in fact, deepens it. Nothing is closely angular, and the only two planets foreground at all are natal Neptune and Saturn. What matters most in this chart is the 2°57' natal Saturn-Neptune mundane square, an aspect that doesn't exist in Biden's nativity and is only drawn out by the geometric circumstances of this return chart.

It's not too important a chart (given that nothing is closely angular). It shows a loss of energy, both physically and psychologically. It's despondent. And it starts concurrent with a three-week Liblunar that suggests close scrutiny of the president's performance and holding him accountable.

Outside of the foreground, eight aspects form with orbs less than 1°. These provide likely supplemental details. Uranus opposite natal Mars (0°04') isn't likely bold action under a dour chart, but may be awkward and reckless. Neptune square natal Uranus (0°05' mundo) seems to feed the dissatisfaction with wishes that things could be different, perhaps motivating a desire to overhaul conditions. Mercury square Saturn (0°24' mundo) and transiting Saturn square natal Mercury (0°44') suggest restrictions, delays, breakdowns, or disappointing conditions arising from ineffective communications, pessimism, or lack of psychological energy (and maybe a bit of telling people off!). Jupiter conjunct Neptune suggests misplaced optimism and getting blindsided by a sucker deal.

However, two aspects suggest this isn't a complete mess. Transiting Sun squares natal Jupiter, an aspect that normally lets others see you at your best and brings a touch of luck. Transiting Jupiter square natal Uranus brings positive attention to one's originality and gain from new ideas, along with restless dissatisfaction wanting broader horizons. Sometimes it pulls a "Thank God!" last minute solution out of its, uh, hat.
