A question about an upcoming Ennead and Decilium

Post by StephenM »

Good afternoon to everyone,

I've been lurking on this forum for years now, just got around to making an account to formally join this group. My name is Stephen. My birth details are as follows:

Date of Birth: 14 September 1966
Time of Birth: 05:15:00 am
Place of Birth: Manila, Philippines

I've been playing around with Solar Fire for a while now, and I just noticed that I seem to have an interesting Ennead coming this February 20, with Pluto on the MC and my natal Jupiter on the IC. The symbolism is repeated by a Decilium on March 12 under the same Ennead, with Pluto on the Zenith and my natal Jupiter on the Nadir. Not sure what to make of this. I'm a pretty laid-back fellow, so anything involving transformation scares the hell out of me, even if it turns out to be good. I was hoping for some feedback from the members on the forum. Thanks for your time.

Stephen, welcome to the registered fold :)

First, yes, Pluto is within a degree of MC in that Ennead - in fact, for central coordinates in Manila, it's only 0°09' away. Uranus is less than 5° below Asc, which isn't nearly as strong, but is nonetheless worth noting, especially for it's similarity to Pluto. Probably most important of all, natal Jupiter is about a degree from opposition to transiting Pluto.

To put this in perspective and allay some anxiety, Pluto on an angle happens all the time. You've had it hundreds of times in your life. For a conservative 3° orb, every planet (on average) is angular about 10% of the time, so of the 3,400 or so lunars, demi-lunars, Enneads, and decilia you've had in your life, every planet has been on an angle about 340 times.

The unique thing at the moment, is Pluto's transit to Jupiter, which first enters a 1° roughly the day of the Ennead and will last leave that orb in December 2023 - so, basically this year and next year. I'll be going through this with you, since my Jupiter is only 0°07' from your Jupiter (though I also have Uranus there). Like me, you've probably already had this foreground in numerous returns, but now it takes center stage for a while.

You can read a standard interpretation of this transit on this page: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=239&p=1616#p1617
The simple meaning is that these two years, in some important ways, will redefine the Jupiter area of your life, signaling major shifts in such things as status, finances, reputation, and ethics. Most of the time this is felt as a positive aspect, a real move forward. That is, in theory it can be positive or negative - can be elevation and promotion on the one hand or dragging down the mighty - but most of the time it is positive. Consider that Donald Trump had this transit for most of his presidency and, while he faced impeachment twice (unprecedented), he also skated free of it due to almost inconceivable protection. Joe Biden then beat Trump in the last election under the same transit and continues to have strong effects from the transit; but Biden's strongest effects of the transit were during the months he was rolling out almost unprecedented programs, his months of greatest success and accomplishment. (His recent drop in the polls coincided with the time the Pluto transit has pulled out of close orb.)

The exact form all this takes depends on the condition of your life, occupation, finances, and other factors. It's a good time to read (or re-read) the Tao Teh Ching and its lessons of the rhythmic uplifting of the small and dragging down of the too-mighty, plus its larger message of all phenomena being in ongoing change.

While all of this is going on this year and next, you will have some periods of poorer transits and some periods of excellent ones. Right now, Jupiter is opposing your Venus, soon to oppose your Moon - which are as fine a pair of transits as one could want. Through most of February, transiting Jupiter will be crossing your natal angles. In March and April, with Pluto only minutes from opposite your Jupiter, Jupiter will oppose your Pluto - and your Uranus and Sun, quite changing the feel of the Neptune to natal Sun (etc.) you've been going through.

In fact, I suspect that's the root of your anxiety: You've been under a lot of Neptune for a year or more and, recently, Saturn opposite your Mars. (And I just saw that you're in a two-month progressed Moon-Mars conjunction.) Maybe you have some wounds to lick, or at least some doubts to assuage. In April, this tone of the Neptune transit will switch to the inflating optimism of Jupiter-Neptune to Sun and other planets.

Meanwhile, progressed Moon is in the last third of Leo, going across your late-Leo planets. A likely decisive shift will occur as progressed Moon crosses your Pluto and Uranus in March-May, climaxing close to May 5. I'm not sure what will happen then, but it likely will be a significant shift. Progressed Moon conjoins your Sun May 18, often a significant turning point in life - usually positive (but some circumstances need to rearrange to make room for that). Think back 27 years for what happened - the last couple of months of 1994 through January '95, more or less - for analogies of what to expect now.

According to progressions, October will be the worst month of the year as progressed Moon opposes Saturn. (Moon opposes progressed Saturn the last half of July.

All of this is under the big umbrella of your current solar return, which is a neutral-themed chart, primarily marked by Mercury on Ascendant. SSR Moon squares your natal cluster of Sun-Mercury-Uranus-Pluto, so you're already in a transition cycle with things moving around in your life most likely. Thed worst time of the solar return year was likely four months after your birthday - this last month (early January) - as progressed SSR Moon squared when you were already having a Moon-Mars progression. Were December-January pretty hard on you?

Wow! Thanks for the detailed response, Mr. Eshelman. This is way more that I expected.

And so very accurate, as pertaining to my life situation. From December 2010 to April 2020, I had to somewhat give up living my own life because some very important people to me needed me to be their caregiver. First, it was my aunt, who I had to care for after she was abandoned by her only child, my cousin, because attending to her multiple co-morbidities (heart disease, breast cancer and Alzheimers) was putting a damper on his lifestyle (he was a CFO of one of the largest airline companies here in the Philippines). I decided to drop everything (a business that was in the start-up stage, my social life, leisure travel, etc.) to take her in and look after her full-time. Doctor appointments, chemotherapy, getting her affairs in order by sorting through her legal documents, and all other typical caregiver stuff, I did all that. When she finally passed in March 2016, I thought that I would be able to restart my life after a few months rest. Just as I was preparing myself to rejoin society, my Mom broke her hip after a nasty fall in the bathroom. That, plus onset dementia that manifested shortly after her injury, required me to go into caregiver mode once again. I took care of her until she passed in 2020. After about a decade of taking care of someone else other that myself, I was a mess. Fortunately, the pandemic happened, which gave me the time I needed to get my head straight. I'm just about ready to reintegrate myself into the world, but there is still so much anxiety and doubt that I'm working through. That's probably transiting Neptune to my Sun.

The two-year transiting Pluto to my Jupiter sounds like what I need right about now, something to pull me out of the gutter. Ditto with transiting Jupiter, as it makes it way through my Venus, Moon, natal angles, Pluto, Uranus, Sun and Mercury. The progressed Moon conjoining my Sun seems quite appropriate for someone about to start a new chapter in his life. Much more so in my case, considering that my Sun, Uranus and Pluto are in partile mundane conjunction in my natal.

I took a peek at my upcoming SSR, and while the only foreground planet is Eris widely conjunct IC, I noticed that SSR Mars is partile conjunct my natal Zenith and SSR Venus is partile conjunct my natal EP (I used the spreadsheet to regress the SSR planets to the natal epoch). Should I read this like it were a concurrent angularity of Venus and Mars? God knows I need a relationship after the decade I've been through. :)

Moon's progression to your Sun (which, you are correct, tends to show new beginnings) is especially a common aspect for meeting someone new and important to you, for forming an important relationship. And yes, you can read Venus-Mars more or less as you suggest.

I don't know if you've seen Mikestar13's free astrology program TMSA that he's been developing on this site. It has some very nice reports. Here's the output for your 9/14/2022 SSR for Manila. The most important factors are the two foreground Erises, plus some non-foreground aspects - and Moon a little more than 3 degrees from square natal Mars (maturing about December).

Are you able to travel a bit? You could, for example, put Mercury-Jupiter exactly angular in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and anywhere on that exact longitude such as Jakarta.

I have downloaded Mikestar13's TMSA and have installed it, just haven't gotten around to using it yet. Will give it a go over the next few days. :)

If the quarantine restrictions here ease up enough to allow for travel, I might just do that.

I also took a peek at my upcoming converse SSR relocated to Saigon (because OCD), it has a partile opposition of Uranus-Neptune on the MC-IC axis, and Jupiter on the DSC. Even more reason to travel. :)
