POM Lunar Returns 2021-23

The first half of the SLR was marked by working on a relatively large written assignment (finished on the first day of the Demi), probably larger and more in-depth than any I've worked on for at least the past three years. Over that period, I've grown less accustomed to (and, frankly, less fond of) academic work, as I've no longer been required to do such work too often.

The Demi reinforces many of the same factors, but with noteworthy transits keeping it fresh:

I have a clear impression (going for several months now) that even very close aspects don't manifest too loudly if the planets involved aren't themselves closely angular. This chart was interesting in that regard.

Transiting Pluto conjunct natal Moon within half a degree didn't mark the fortnight like I'd expect from such a theoretically powerful transit. Not even Pluto conjunct the whole Moon-Mercury-Uranus-Neptune shebang! It was a feature, most clearly in the sense of intellectual indecision, pondering about the viability of the framework of important research I have to do. It's appropriate. But transiting Pluto is the least angular planet and, fittingly, this wasn't all that a Plutonian period, even with its close transits, including to a luminary.

However, what's intriguing is that the Sun to Jupiter transit permeated the period, in a way the Pluto transits did not. It was overall a pleasant, leisurely time, with recurring attention from friends and "authority figures." Transiting Sun and natal Jupiter are quite widely foreground, barely closer than Pluto, but the aspect between them is only 0°06'. It could be that the "overwhelming closeness" of the aspect, well, overwhelmed the other factors somewhat, and compensated for the wide angularity of the involved planets.

Very interesting observations. The importance seems clearly an interrelationship of closeness of angularity and closeness of aspect orb. Mike and I have discussed some eventual tools for TMSA that I don't think will be very useful for a natal but will be useful (if we get it right) for return charts.

In the meantime, we can apply a little common sense and a little art.

Another example is my current Demi-SLR. For home (where it occurred), Pluto is barely foreground and there are pretty close transits by Pluto to a couple of natal factors; but, even seven miles away at my office, Pluto isn't foreground, those transits fall away. If nothing else, this demonstrates how barely foreground the Pluto is. I ultimately decided to just ignore those aspects. (Those certainly been irrelevant to the main events so far.)

One and off, I've played with a way of using different font sizes to mark SLR aspects so that I can list them in the order of orb but visually weight them according to how foreground they are. Maybe it's interesting to apply this to your current chart? Let's try it out...

By my usual way of laying these out, the chart would like this this:

I guess I'm not sure how helpful this is. It doesn't inflate the Sun-Jupiter as much as I thought it might but it does make the natal aspects stand out much more vividly. Seeing now, I think it doesn't match your observations at all. (I didn't find it useful enough to keep doing the extra work to produce this kind of scaling, though I think SOMETHING like this concept might be useful.) - Just meandering thought, I guess.

If anything, I liked your usual format better for that one.

Hard to gauge the relative voice of the natal Moon-Mercury-Uranus conjunction given it's my natal signature anyway, but it did continue to have a prominence it wasn't having for a while before the June 17 SLR (where it was also featured, in that case with all three Class 1 angularities). In that first fortnight (see my description three posts above), there was something that I think could be called a relatively "Outstanding Incident."

Last Thursday morning, a few hours before this set up, my sister, who already had a persistent cough for about a month, started to cough up a substantial amount of blood. Tuberculosis was my first thought (I had it in late 2013, early 2014), and it turned out to be the case, but it was scary at first (too much blood too suddenly) and she had to stay at the hospital for four days. She's home now and doing much better, undergoing treatment. Her current SLR is quite benefic, but she had Mars transiting her Neptune during the initial experience, as well as longer-term Neptune transiting her Pluto and Saturn.

Besides that situation, the reason I took longer to post this than I normally would was that my computer wasn't turning on properly, and I thought I would have to get it repaired again. Fortunately, I managed to fix it myself within a couple of days.

Overall, this chart has been quite accurate. But what about the "Outstanding" full SLR, did it deliver? Not as impressively as I would have expected. The symbolism of the planets involved is entirely appropriate. The main event of that first fortnight was that I met up with two important friends whom I hadn't seen in over six years. Their importance to me, particularly of one of them, might push this into "Outstanding" territory or thereabouts. If the angularities or the transits were a tad farther away, it would be just another unambiguous hit.

Patrick, FWIW, I classify for my life "outstanding incidents" charts as anything manifesting which is 'out of the ordinary' relative to my normal daily activities. The closer a planet(s) involving a partile aspect to an angle or angles, the more expressive the incident is noticed by the native with the symbolism of the planets involved in the aspect. I first look for eclipto aspects, and then for any possible mundane aspects, particulariley if they are angular.

Also FWIW, I like using the Node because it usually tells me with higher % the incident may involve new people in the environment or a person known that is not normally in the immeadiate environment. For example: My wife's current DSLR has a very active Node with partile/tight aspects bringing a new Doctor into her life which has important meaning for her life, even with the Node not angular.

Not bad at all. This is a first taste of the upcoming Jupiter to natal Venus-Jupiter transit that will constitute the core of my next SSR.

With how unimportant aspects between planets that are widely foreground have seemed, I question whether Neptune on Saturn here is meaningfully anything more than "a transit that's happening right now anyway." (Also, that's some intense stuff going on with the non-foreground partile aspects.)

A belated report on the previous chart: It marked a very positive fortnight, with one benefic outcome at its beginning and another toward its end.

The first thing was that I finally arrived at a satisfactory plan of action for the major piece of academic work I have left to do, which brought me a great deal of peace of mind, and set the tone for the following days.

The second thing was that—keeping it simple and not going into detail—a friend who recently became single, and whom I'm very interested in, agreed to go on a date with me. Alright, I'll mention one detail, because the symbolism is just too good. I went to talk to her with the intention of asking her out, but before I could, she said she had gotten back together with her ex-boyfriend. Then, during the course of that same conversation, they broke up again.

So, yes, a great chart.

So Pluto's transit to your Neptune is the big deal this time. How has this been feeling/manifesting? (Your Neptune is a few minutes from square my Neptune - I've been getting the same transit for about a year, on and off - so I'm curious how this is showing for you.)

Given that and the more widely foreground Uranus (which squares your Moon a bit), this should at least be a really interesting month.

The "proceedings" with my aforementioned friend came to a halt today. We've left a door open, but this was definitely a Plutonian hit. The energy I was putting forth was more Neptunian than, say, Venusian, and it was what was hit with this "interruption." It was more stressful than anything, in the sense of spending time and energy on something uncertain and outside of my usual ways, and since I have plenty of other things to do with said time and energy, it was frustrating to have it seemingly go to waste. Once we cleared up where we stood (basically the ball being on her court), I felt a lot better.

I consider this a clean hit, though not representative of my experience of the long-term transit itself. That has been less event-oriented, and more to do with "adjusting to feeling ever-increasingly exposed or vulnerable," stirring anxieties up and keeping them up until my way of perceiving their roots shifted.

There are a LOT of times (most times?) I don't think a transit by itself means the same thing as a transit highlighted by being foreground in a lunar. This is because it's not just highlighting - it's adding other factors. Whereas transiting Pluto to natal Neptune is one factor that has a life and character of its own, here it coexists with the separate, distinct elements of (1) transiting Pluto closely angular and (2) natal Neptune closely angular. You have to interweave the three separate interpretations.

So, yes, the return might have an experience that is more immediately event oriented; and the transit itself is more of a gradual internal psychological process that may or may not ripen into an event. Your wording of it is interesting to me. (For me, it's been evolving points of view on various things concurrent with finding new ways to sharpen the psychological and verbal modelling of reality - more or less.)

At least you get cool new features even if it's for a lousy chart LOL.

I'm not really comfortable seeing transiting Moon and Saturn tightly angular AND a close Pluto transit to Moon foreground AND transiting Saturn to natal Sun (though that one is wide).

If it's anything like my previous experiences, I expect Pluto on Moon to be practically unnoticeable due to the wide angularities. In any case, I do have the saving grace of Jupiter currently passing through solar angles.

Under this chart I went on a 5-day water fast. I didn't do it with the intention of it being Saturn's means of expression: I already wanted to do it and, since I'm not going to get the chance again anytime soon (it compromises productivity too much), I went for it. Turns out that was a lot, perhaps most, of the chart's Saturn. A lot of physical and emotional discomfort. Some outside of the fast, too. And plenty to do, most of which I didn't get done during the fast. I think Saturn's score at 99% is more accurate than it was with the former minor angle curve, which put it at 95%.

Moon can be taken together with Saturn as "resisting feeding," and by itself as the strong emotions that arose (I had almost forgotten fasting does that for me) and the filling food that followed.

It was a pleasant fortnight overall, as well as intellectually busy. It wasn't a very social time, however. It felt like the natal factors ruled the show. The most fitting incident for the transiting factors was making plans to meet up with a very dear and important friend whom I haven't seen in almost four years. (That's supposed to be tomorrow, under the new, dreadful SLR.) I initiated contact, for what it's worth. I think the transiting luminaries are the main factors that seemed less evident than we would have expected. This period was distinctly low-key for me. (I bring attention to the fact that the most angular planet in the full SLR was natal Pluto, which was noticeable.)

If there were to be any relationship-related developments (as the chart strongly suggested), I think only one specific person could have fit the bill at this time, and we didn't talk throughout the fortnight.

My country's elections yesterday did go my way, which warrants a mention.

The whole month has felt quite uniform, but I suppose there was a larger pile of troubles and concerns during the second half. Features included, but were not limited to, low energy, insomnia, toothache, and (especially a magnified awareness of) financial scarcity.

This was unambiguously the worst month of the year for me. Unpleasant, stressful, and defined by insecurity. There was the saving grace of the fact that I knew that, both astrologically and otherwise, things are due to improve soon, so there wasn't opportunity for something like despair.

I did get (relatively) a lot of work done, and finally reached a point of easing of academic concerns (which was a substantial part of the period's heaviness) toward the end of the charts' lifespan.

Astrology working precisely AND no permanent damage. Sometimes, it's about the simple things in life.

Definite improvements aside, stress remains high, and I expect that to continue for a few weeks. (Which fits this chart, as well as progressed Moon on natal Neptune with transiting Pluto right on top of it.)

There does seem to be a lot of change in the wind - especially in rearrangement of the psyche.

When reviewing old returns to write Interpreting Solar Returns decades ago, something I hadn't seen in the books jumped out at me and made total sense: When Moon is strong in a return, the main characteristic is often that you feel everything else in the chart (and probably every other astrological factor) with unusual intensity. They seem "bigger" charts. A Moon-Neptune progression will amplify sensitivity as well. The backdrop of all of this, then, is feeling everything vividly and intensely.

That your new SLR has a close Uranus-Pluto square, and that Uranus-Pluto both aspect your Neptune, should make for an interesting ride through inner space. I'm not sure objective events will happen from this. (They could, of course: Uranus-Pluto radical revision of circumstances drawing lunar and Neptunian response from you; but the main (direct) effect seems more likely to be in consciousness.

That 0°00' Jupiter-Jupiter transit seems to say that it's not going to be all bad (and maybe none of it is). But there's a lot of inner processing and changing your mind (or the shape of your mind) about things.

Right on. Not much seeming to happen outwardly. Inwardly it's been busier, and perhaps I haven't been giving that as much attention as I could (or should) because I have work to do, but life doesn't wait. (That's a theme that's been popping up.) On the more visibly productive front, organizing information and writing have been flowing well, and that's what I needed at this time.

The 0º00' Jupiter-Jupiter aspect may have contributed to things working well and even this fortnight having a more leisurely feel than I'd have expected. (There aren't really any major benefic factors at work currently.) These overwhelmingly close orbs (at least within 0°10') keep drawing my attention.

A close mundane transit of Uranus to natal Moon-Mercury-Uranus shows up again. Were it not for the Saturn, that would easily be something to look forward to. It might still be if it manifests more or less separately. Saturn doesn't aspect anything closely. It also makes sense at this conjuncture (unfinished work).

Saturn took the lead. The work featured moments of great heaviness and insecurity regarding it being doable satisfactorily and on time. But I'm through with the worst of it. Just need to tie it all up within the next several days, and I foresee no significant hiccups.

I invited a professor whom I admire very much, and hadn't had contact with for four years, as the external evaluator for my work's presentation next month, and she promptly accepted. I had the idea after a colleague mentioned her in a WhatsApp group while I was trying to figure this out. It hadn't panned out with my and my supervising professor's previous picks of who to invite, so this was a welcome surprise. I hadn't thought of her before largely because of the time passage, I reckon. If there was one major manifestation of transiting Uranus's aspects, this was it.

Already noticeable from yesterday. Pleasant psychological atmosphere, physical indulgence, concerns eased, and confidence increased regarding the immediate future.

Under this chart (though also under the upcoming, less pleasant Demi), I am due to start my final professional internship (January 9), as well as to deliver the aforementioned presentation (January 17), which is very fitting.

The good news is that those are all wide angularities. It won't be a high-impact SLR. In fact, to put it in perspective, rerun it deleting your Class 3 angularity orbs in Options. I think everything disappears.

But I'm sure you're going to have to deal with Neptune conjunct your Saturn.

The previous chart turned out to be even less important than I anticipated. Neptune transiting Saturn might have registered (as financial scarcity, or at least its looming shadow, for instance). It's already accurate in that I'm significantly more uncertain about what I'll encounter from life during these following weeks (and even beyond) than I've been in a while. There's an element of excitement in the air—not bad for a Neptunian chart.

While in theory I follow the rule that keeps confirming itself with ingresses ("If it's foreground at all, it's aspects count!"), I agree with you in practice. In fact - especially when the chart is complicated - I'll go back into the temporary options in TMSA and delete the Class 3 angularity orbs then rerun the chart. (Take my current Demi-SLR for Sierra Verde, Arizona, and look at the aspects; then drop the Class 3 angularities and see the very precise aspects on the bare periphery of angularity disappear.)

In theory, the two "curves" of angularity and aspect partility overlap somehow - with the strongest effects being when they come to a crest - but it's not as simple as "get two strength scores and multiply them" that we though 40-50 years ago.

But it's something like that.

But I look at your description - and see the date above that I take is 7 January 2022 - and wonder if you miscalculated this chart. I don't get any of the aspects you listed. Is this my mistake?

I've even been playing with mostly running Lunars with no angularities past 8° for major angles (7° seemed like it'd cut out more than I'd like too often) and 2° for minor angles (which also takes care of excluding squares to MC past 2°, something TMSA currently can't specifically take into account). Any widely foreground aspect I'd care to see would be partile anyway, so I can look at the non-foreground partile aspects for supplemental information much as I'd do on regular settings, without feeling like I'm missing anything.

That natal Neptune in the SLR set a tone that persisted even through the second half of the month, which wasn't as straightforwardly pleasant as the Demi-SLR suggested. (I should mention that transiting Pluto on progressed Moon might be more directly related to what I observed than the Lunars.)

Sometimes—barely often enough for it to be noticeable—a Demi doesn't take the lead as much as I'd expect. That may be more likely to happen when the Demi isn't too striking, or when the Full doesn't agree much with it.
