Stock market plunges 3-4%

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 5, 2024, 9:30 AM, Wall Street, NYC

U.S. markets opened 3-4% down this morning, the DJIA being more than 1,000 points down since last session. This followed rolling market drops over the weekend including Japan's market suffering its worst drop in history (though they're jiggling the value of the Yen right now, so the Japan story is more complicated.) Though becoming a worldwide effect, it started in the U.S. last week.

We don't know yet how far this is going. It might continue through the week or start turning around immediately. (The Fed could make a big difference right now.) Tomorrow is a Gann date. There seem to be none of the usual world economic indicator aspects, though this may all be a repositioning ahead of the Mars-Jupiter-Saturn pile-up later this month.

The week chart (Canlunar) set it up... but the overall context does not look like this is a major event.

As expected, this is probably not going to turn out to be a big deal event. Already this morning the Dow has recovered nearly half of what it lost yesterday, and the whole drop against the last few months and years seems of little consequence. Time will tell how this sorts out, of course, but I think it falls in the "bad day, bad week" category - as anticipated by the Canlunar - not a turning point for the market.

Voepass Linhas Aereas Flight 2283 crashed in Brazil

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 9, 2024, 1:21:21 PM LT (+3), Vinhedo, Brazil (22S02'59" 47W01'11")
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voepass_L ... light_2283

Crashed into several houses in a residential area of Vinhedo, Brazil. All 61 people on board are believed to be dead. I don't yet know if anyone on the ground was killed or injured.

Flight 2283, a 14-year-old twin-engine turboprop plane, dropped 17,000 feet in one minute for reasons still unknown. The time above is when it fell off radar.

Over time, I've become decreasingly impressed with event charts per se. This one is a great example of why: It occurred with a Mercury-Venus conjunction straddling MC and Jupiter setting (albeit conjunct Mars). Moon was partile trine Jupiter. However, Saturn also was on Nadir and - checking the mundoscope - the closest aspect was a 0°03' Mercury-Mars square.
