Chuck Schumer

Post by Jim Eshelman »

November 23, 1950, 11:00 am EST, Manhattan, NY (A Data)

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is coming under fire this week over his handling of the budget crisis that resolved yesterday. His left flank felt he should have stood his ground and let the Republicans in Congress fail on their own, whereas Schumer felt keeping the country afloat was the right thing to do (and the only way to keep Democrats involved in the next steps).

This short-term crisis for Schumer is easy to spot: Slow-moving transiting Mars is square his Neptune right now, always exposing one's vulnerabilities and leaving one open to attack. He has no ripening directions of note (but will have critical ones in another year) and no maturing progressions right now. By itself, this Mars transit is a passing matter.

However, there is a more serious threat to Schumer's position (remaining party leader). His upcoming larger vulnerabilities may be showing (a little blood in the water). His natal Saturn is 6°12' Virgo. Neptune hasn't quite opposed it yet, but it will soon. Transiting Neptune will oppose Schumer's Saturn in the first half of April. By mid-June, not only does Neptune retrograde back near that Saturn, but there is a triple transiting Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune square that we've already identified as affecting the nation strongly, complexly, and ultimately adversely - that lands exactly on Schumer's Saturn.

His current (March 4) SLR is a strong, positive chart that looks like he'll weather the current crisis:

r Pluto EP-a -2°10'
r Venus IC -8°06'

r Sun N -0°56'
------------------------
r Jupiter Dsc +1°19'
t Uranus MC +2°39'
r Moon MC +6°05' [t Mo MC +6°08'[

r Moon-Pluto sq 0°26'
t Uranus sq r Jupiter 1°20' M
r Sun-Jupiter sq 1°41'
r Sun-Venus co 2°24'

t Uranus co r Moon 2°25'
t Uranus sq r Pluto 2°51'

Presuming he stays in Washington (as he usually does), his April 28 SLR shows some heat with a partile Mars-Pluto opposition across the horizon (and Sun square natal Pluto). That's enough to deliver a life-changing harsh blow. I think he will at least get wounded in the two weeks following.

His July 6 Demi-SLR brings the transiting Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune (plus Sun) angular along with natal Mars closest (he's fighting!) and natal Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. A lot happening! Saturn-Neptune and Jupiter-Saturn aspects are partile, with Sun opposite natal Mars closest (9': he's fighting!) and numerous mixes of the other planets (mostly partile).

The chart this year that looks most likely to take him down hard is the August 16 SLR with three transiting malefics plus natal Saturn foreground, all tightly fused together:

t Mars Dsc -4°36'
t Saturn Asc -4°10'
r Saturn Asc -4°00'
t Neptune Asc -3°33'

t Saturn op r Saturn 0°17'
t Mars-Saturn op 0°24' M
t Neptune op r Saturn 0°26'
t Mars co r Saturn 0°35' M
t Saturn-Neptune co 0°37' M
t Mars-Neptune op 1°02' M
