[The following is from by book Interpreting Solar Returns, (San Diego: ACS 1985). They may be useful in fine-tuning return interpretation, and inferrential with respect to natal placements.]

PLANETS ON THE VARIOUS ANGLES

SUN conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Identity is under focus. Self-expression is easier, more vital. Seeking to draw attention to self. Conscious of goals or desires; motivated to act and do something significant. Assertive, bold, leading, maybe overbearing.

SUN conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Receiving special attention, especially from people in authority. Ambitious: emphasis on career or life-goals as an expression of identity to the world at large. Self-aggrandizement. Probable advantage. Enthusiasm, clarity, drawing on barely-suspected resources and abilities.

SUN conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Emphasis on close relationships of all types (common placement for weddings). Sociable; oriented to others in cooperation or competition. Seeking attention and ratification of your importance from others. Watch the ego!

SUN conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Emphasis on personal, private, domestic matters. Things "close to home" (physically or psychologically) draw your attention. Strength from reflection, introspection, exploring one's inner roots. Closing some fundamental cycle or life-stage while beginning another.

MOON conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Personality is under focus. Need for response, acceptance, feedback, recognition from others. Responsive, reactive, reflexive; receptive, sensitive, sensuous. Subject to whim and impulse; volition wavers in face of temptation or distraction. Emotions heightened, moods far-ranging.

MOON conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Receiving special attention (scrutiny), especially from people of higher rank or position. Visibility, publicity. Ambitious: emphasis on professional identity, development of public image; "on stage" to the world. Change and fluctuation in professional/occupational areas. Probable advantage. Possible PARENT issues.

MOON conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Attracted to close, reciprocal, emotional interaction. Need for love, affection; to merge with another, take part in nurturing experiences and share emotional contact. Sociable, likely to receive attention or be in the spotlight. Heightened appetites, enhanced desire nature (few weddings with this placement, but many wild oats sown).

MOON conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Deep personal feelings are focus of awareness. Things “close to home” (physically or psychologically) draw your attention. It’s important to trust and be conscious of your feelings, else unconscious patterns dictate reactive behavior. Domestic, nesting, emotional, affectionate, care taking. Offering and requiring nurturing.

MERCURY conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
"Taking care of business." Communication, transportation, commerce, ideas. Curious, mentally quick, analytic, discriminating, practical. Flurry of communication and activity.

MERCURY conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Communication, ideas, transportation and business predominate. Business and busy-ness. Professional matters particularly benefit from lucid thought and careful communication. Publicity.

MERCURY conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Communication and shared mental activity emphasized, either through cooperation or competition (dialogue, exchange of information, negotiation, consultation, debate.) Mind clear, quick.

MERCURY conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Contemplative; magnifies any introspective streak in you. Personal matters require attention (domestic or family concerns; deep inner issues). Busy, practical, self-contained.

VENUS conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Harmonious surroundings, pleasure, peace. Sharing love. Relationships draw your attention. Possible new romance or friendship. Beauty and harmony are important. Sensuous, comfy, perhaps ardent.

VENUS conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Feeling comfortable, happy, good about oneself. Enhanced self-image. Love and pleasure emphasized, affection received. Excellent for social events, public appearance, shared fun.

VENUS conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Sharing affection and pleasure. Strong emphasis on relationships. Excellent for all one-on-one encounters. Cooperative, gentle, social, sensuous. Appreciative of beauty and comfort.

VENUS conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
A wellspring of profound (probably positive) feelings opens around intimate, personal matters. Home and family give joy. New romance, sensuality, mutual pleasure. Deep sharing possible.

MARS conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Assertive, competitive, physical, aggressive, irritating, willful, impatient, sexually demanding. Energetic time with possible angry conflict. Requires freedom of action. Capable of accomplishment and effective action.

MARS conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Aggressive individualism. Ego energies intensified and applied to personal goals. Competitive, ambitious. Possible conflict from stressing one’s own importance at cost of others’ sensitivities.

MARS conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Competitive. Possible conflict. YOU vs. ANOTHER, with each side going all out to win! Find cooperative uses for volatile energies. In intimate pairings, S.O.S. means "Sex or Strife."

MARS conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Ego energies are roused. Competitive, stressing own needs over others'. Strife in personal life. Anger, moodiness or irritability tend to be reflexive, defensive, based on old subconscious patterns.

JUPITER conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Feeling especially good about yourself. Advantage from others' good will. Enhanced social image, self-esteem, opportunities. Self-improvement, refreshment. Interests in philosophical, religious, spiritual and/or professional and financial ideas. Beware of misplaced superiority and self-righteousness.

JUPITER conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
A high point. Progress and advance come more readily, especially in profession. At its best: respect, recognition, gain, elevation, advantage, confidence. Feeling good about self and accomplishments (arrogance, inflated ego). Generally, the road looks pretty smooth, encouraging ambitions.

JUPITER conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Increased respect. Gregarious, good-natured, sociable, inclined to cooperation. Sound relationships bring pleasure and comfort; while in strained relationships, a pause in the conflict is likely, providing space for tackling existing problems.

JUPITER conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Private life-elements become chief sources of pleasure and refreshment, especially home and those who share it. New value found in the traditions that underlie your mental, emotional and spiritual development. Improving the home, making promising investments, growth in family size, etc.

SATURN conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Maturing self-sufficiency. Pressures build, demands increase. Work, discipline, aloof self-examination. You can take charge of life-areas where previously you have felt not in control. "Getting your act together." Loose ends seem naggingly obvious. Time to finish commitments and weed out the clutter in your life.

SATURN conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Identity and authority issues dominate. Learning much about who you are, what is important to you, how you handle power. Demands increase; basic needs are accented. You have only yourself to rely on! May signal professional maturity; or, if you have built poorly, a setback.

SATURN conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Relationships require extra attention. Emphasizes incompatibility or unwillingness to cooperate. Accumulated grievances raise their heads. Be more willing to drop barriers between yourself and others. Solid relationships are not taxed as badly as shaky ones. Committed partnerships can be secured.

SATURN conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Get your feet squarely under you! Laying a foundation. Security and property issues become important. Family relationships possibly strained. Assuming greater self-reliance, and encouraging it in your dependents.

URANUS conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Awakens you to truths about who you are; resets your life course. Freedom needs increase. Relationships change. Desire for reform or revolution. Tension if you resist change; but excitement and renewal reward self-reliance and self-exploration. Progressive, stimulating.

URANUS conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Need for freedom. Individuality is emphasized. A basic truth-of-self emerges. Changes in career, status, life-goals. Maybe crisis involving authority. Needing to be more your own boss. Tension shows that you are resisting appropriate changes; but enthusiasm signals that you are probably on the right track.

URANUS conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Changes in relationships, which now require more attention and energy. Exciting new relationships possible; while existing ones demand redesigning. Separations possible; but a strong pair-bond will be renewed if both are willing to rework it. Dependency and possessiveness don't work. Self-reliance is the keynote.

URANUS conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Inner restlessness prompts lifestyle shifts. Changes in home and domestic matters (maybe a move). Important shifts occur inside you. Self-discovery. Possible disruption, separation. Need to refresh or renew close family relationships.

NEPTUNE conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Shift in self-image and personality. Self-doubt while discovering a more sensitive self. Increased sensitivity requires refinement of habits. More responsive to emotional stimuli, prone to dramatize feelings.

NEPTUNE conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Identity and life direction confused, uncertain. Easier to dream than to transform dreams into reality. Applying imagination in successful, functional ways is the main need. Practical matters require focused, conscious attention.

NEPTUNE conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Quest for something meaningful, probably involving close relationships. Either dissolving rigid views that separate you from others, thus new intimacy; or your prejudices are dramatized and trigger struggles and distress. Sensitive, vulnerable. Perhaps confused relationships, frustration, dependency, disillusionment in relationships, unrealistic views.

NEPTUNE conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Chance to explore your psychological and spiritual roots. Emotionally sensitive, vulnerable. Matters rise to consciousness involving early life. If not confronted: possible childish behavior, dependence, increased security needs, despair. Emotions interfere with practical affairs.

PLUTO conj. ASCENDANT or EASTPOINT
Self-discovery. Liberation from inherited attitudes. Existential recognition of yourself as sole monarch of your inner universe. Rebellious, uncooperative; a need to be free of other’s arbitrary values. Pivotal spiritual experiences possible.

PLUTO conj. MIDHEAVEN or ZENITH
Transformation. Life-purpose gains new clarity. You assume more power over your life. May feel alienated from an irrational society. Reputation, rank, career and other outer tokens of identity change. Capable of unprecedented contribution.

PLUTO conj. DESCENDANT or WESTPOINT
Dramatic changes, particularly in close relationships. Turbulent self-examination through projection. Issues handled by direct confrontation. Emphasis on competitive, separative aspects of relating; but a profound alliance is now possible.

PLUTO conj. LOWER HEAVEN or NADIR
Changes in environment or family relationships. Substantial psychological changes. Private, reflective, freer of others’ opinions. You stand close enough to touch the essence of yourself if only you will. Benefit from self-exploration techniques.
