Whakaari (White Island) volcano

Post by Jim Eshelman »

December 9, 2019, 2:11 PM NZDT (1:11 UT), White Island (Whakaari) off New Zealand: volcano is 37S31'12", 177E10'57"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Whak ... d_eruption

A volcano erupted with negligible warning while two touring groups (47 people) were on the island. 17 people are confirmed dead with two others missing and presumed dead (19 total). The other 28 were seriously injured, with all but three suffering burns over their entire bodies.

An ash plume rose over 12,000 feet (over two miles) into the sky.

Time is from Washington Post and other sources, taken off video feeds of the eruption. The ingresses are a staggering parade of one Mars after another! It's as perfect a volcano example as one could want.
